      You always want a computer will not shut down at least 200ft, I case of a emergency you may need to get deeper. it Cozumel one of the best dives is to 130ft, but few divers exit deeper to 150ft if they are not putting attention,

      Apple Watch Ultra: Never in my life.
      Right now the best dive computers are the Shearwater Perdix 2 and the Shearwater Petrel 3. The Shearwater Teric if you must have a dive watch computer. The Shearwater Peregrine if you will only ever do recreational diving. The Garmin Mk2s if you must have a smartwatch/dive watch computer combo, and the Garmin Mk2i if you must have a smartwatch/dive watch computer combo that can keep track of your breathing gas.

      I picked up an Apple Watch and used the “dive computer” as an excuse to buy one. The other features of the watch are nice, but I really want to use this for diving in Minnesota, and this seems like a good but not great all in one recreational diving watch.

    Great video! Thank you.
    Been diving with the Ultra and Oceanic myself now for 5 months. Same issues mentioned seem to persist.
    • Ending a dive with the dive summary mid dive. Oceanic can start the dive automatically, but please let me end it. Thank you very much.
    I use my dive computer for the compass, navigation, deco calculations, safety stops, safe ascent rates, the whole 9 yards so to speak. A dive that prematurely ended mid dive at 35m(115ft) is catastrophic.
    • Also, a one time indemnity is perfect, but asking me to confirm that “I am fit and ready to dive” every single time before a dive, is very cumbersome and unnecessary.
    • Conservatism settings are not customisable enough and should allow more freedom.
    • Scrolling with the Digi Crown is finicky but manageable. Unfortunately repositioning the watch over a wetsuit under water inadvertently scrolls the crown every time. I would prefer to rather utilise the side button to scroll through the screens one press at a time.
    • I would also consider more functionality via combination presses. i.e. action button & side button pressed together could bring up a full screen compass and any press of action button or opposite button can return me to the “Home Screen”
    •Make combination presses programmable to chose what you would like the command to do.
    Altogether the potential of this device and future devices can be great, functionalities such as gas pressure integration, deeper than 40m dives, more freedom in conservatism settings & Trimix dive options will be amazing.
    The bright screen is easy to read and the minimalist design is great for me (subjective I suppose) and for it to be a phone, daily watch, music player and so much more all-in-one is unreal, we are truly living in 2023.
    But for the Ultra to be considered a real player in the dive computer market they will have to address the issues pointed out in your video and the bullets above.

    • @MihaiCostiug
      @MihaiCostiug Před měsícem

      I used an Ultra 2 for 6 dives in March 2024 and most of the issues are still there. In 2 of those 6 dives, I had to resurface immediately after starting the descent because it went into summary mode.

    I bought this watch a couple of days before leaving for a diving holiday. I installed the Oceanic+ app. First dive: fantastic readability ! And the figures were all correct, compared to my Suunto Viper and Suunto Eos. But after 10 minutes, at a depth of 22 meters, the screen showed temperature icon and after another minute went completely dead. After the dive I tried hard reset etc, but it stayed dead. Is back to Apple now. Water temp was 26°C. I'm really anxious to know what their answer's gonna be. Luckily I always dive with 2 "real" Suunto dive computers, so I had my back-up.

    I've always wanted an Apple Watch that you can dive with. I've seen lots of criticism that "I'd never trust that thing" or other similar complaints. I'm old enough to remember diving with dive tables, so computers have always been a "nice to have" for me but not required. These days the prices have come down to the point that everyone should have one. One thing about the Oceanic+ app is that it will always get better with future updates. Many dive computers are the same as the day you opened the box. I think auto logging of dives to your log book is a great feature...no need to do any kind of weird syncing. My main problem now is that I already own a stainless Series 7 my wife bought for me last year...and I can't imagine paying another $800 for an upgrade so soon.

  • @christophS2468
    @christophS2468 Před rokem +8

    I can see using one as a backup computer if you already own the watch but not buying it because of the dive computer feature. And the watch would be handy if one ends up doing a spur of the moment dive with rental equipment without one's own equipment. Most people who end up using this watch as a dive computer will probably dive such simple profiles that the watch if overkill.

  • @ShaiYammanee

    This looks really great for a casual diver.
    It also looks like a good backup for more active divers.
    I really wish there was a way to have integrated tank monitoring for a live update on my air.
    Hopefully, that will come in version 2 of the watch.
    These features, plus a lot of the hiking features, makes this very tempting for me.
    I’m not a huge fan of the subscription to use the application. I hope other companies will be able to create their own apps that will be able to access all the watch features.

      The first thing they must fix is stopping dive tracking when you exceed your MOD.
      The second thing they must fix is the screen lock to use the dive app.

    Thanks for the tidy review. I bought my Apple Watch Ultra 2 for the health/fitness Apps & integration w/iPhones Apps. I've dove a few times last fall with the Apple Dive App and then this winter discovered the Oceanic+ App. I just finished a trip with eight dives and used it alongside my Shearwater Perdix (primary). I should say I always wear the Ultra 2 on my left wrist and the Perdix on my right. (BTW...just saw a video about switching to the crown on the left and that was my only complaint on the dives...I'll be sure to switch it now). I also have an analog air gauge on my left side clipped to my weight pocket (tertiary). I was really happy with the Oceanic+ and it was always exactly the same as the Perdix. I will say I loved the tap of the haptics for my settings as I can never hear my Perdix underwater. It made my diving all the more safe by helping me stick to my dive plan. Don't get me wrong I love my Perdix but if Apple would integrate air I would opt for it to be my primary. Also I did have a problem with the touch screen on the first dive while wearing a wetsuit but nothing turning off the Passcode didn't solve on the rest of the dives. It does warn you the Apple Wallet cards would not be available but until they start taking Apple Pay at the dive/wreck sites I figure I don't need it. Just make sure to turn those back on when you finish diving for the day if you want to use them. I love it and the Watch face for adding the dive information including the flight one. I have one high pressure outlet left on my rig Apple... let's get that air integration solved please.

    I am a big Apple fan and was eager to see the review. For me, the pluses: bright screen; long battery life; the post-dive data summary with easy integration into other Apple products; more visible warnings than most dive watches; vibration warnings. Cons: Don't want to have my attention absorbed by having to enter a passcode or flip screens during a dive. Overall, I don't dive frequently enough to justify buying the watch. I will continue to rent a standalone dive computer. If I did dive more I would still have an issue with the passcode and the need to rotate the crown. Better to have a press button instead but best of all is no need to engage with the watch at all with my hands. That is something to minimize for any piece of scuba equipment.

    I'm a bit of a geek over new toys and was super excited about this... I've been diving with my Ultra and Oceanic+ as a backup computer for 7 months and have had nothing but problems - about half the time not getting it to work at all. The app looks cool and is easy to use if/when it works, but I wouldn't rely on it for my primary dive computer. Their tech support has been pretty awful - typically a next day email telling me to sync with the app on my phone or something equally unhelpful. I would recommend that you have a good primary dive computer and use Oceanic+ as a backup/toy.
    Soooo disappointed - I'm going on a dive trip in a couple weeks and if I have trouble with it there I'm going to give up and cancel my subscription.

      For a dive computer to know the amount of air left in the tank you need a dive computer connected to your HP hose, or a wireless transmitter that can communicate with your dive computer. Oceanic has wireless transmitters, but the Apple watch isn't set up to be able to communicate with them.

    I’m a bit apprehensive about these. I’m in the market for my first computer but it’s my personal opinion that a critical piece of dive safety equipment should be designed and used specifically for diving. Not something that is used every day with other capabilities in mind. It might be a great option to have as a backup though in case your primary computer were to fail on a dive. Better than nothing that’s for sure.

    $800? I don't see the software cost as being much of a problem, but my dive computer was much less than that and has integrated air pressure and a computer upload link over USB. It also has a huge screen that is easy to read, and I prefer dive computers in the console attached to the air hose rather than on my wrist. I guess the advantage is you have a watch you can use for other sports and outdoors things, but it seems like it would be better to get a regular watch for that and a dive computer for diving. Also, I guess I have to admit that I don't have an iPhone, so it wouldn't work too well for me. Maybe at some point this will be something that could replace a regular dive computer.
