    ✏️ NOTES
    When I only had one phone, I found myself constantly distracted and it was hard to focus on the task at hand. With this 3 phone system, I'm able to focus on specific kinds of tasks, and I can be completely offline to the world while still making use of the tech. Buying a relatively cheap phone just to practice calm was completely worth it for me.

    Interesting idea. I find that focus mode's ability to limit apps, badges, and notifications really helps me.

  • @NatalieSharpe
    @NatalieSharpe Před 2 lety +5

    I did something similar. I got a palm phone (credit card sized android phone) and I put only Libby and Spotify on it. It's like a modern ipod. One pro tip: make sure your "calm phone" is in airplane mode because even without a sim card it drains the battery life looking for cell signal unless airplane mode is on. You can still have wi fi on but I found for me this makes a huge difference in battery life.

    Have definitely thought about this 2+ phone strategy for once I finish medical school (to separate work/home). Right now, I set daily 30-minute timers on my most distracting apps (usually social media), and I restrict access to all non-work apps with focus mode from waking until 3pm!

    • @AhsanteB
      @AhsanteB  Před 2 lety +2

      This sounds like a smart solution! I like that phones have more ways to set restrictions internally these days. I do really like the separation that multiple devices provides.

    Turning off notifications on a lotta apps definitely helped me but this solution is very creative and interesting

    I have a hard enough time keeping track of one phone, the thought of keeping tabs on three stresses me out 😂 I do like the concept though. I’ve been so annoyed with spam calls lately that I’ve been debating switching to an ipad or phone with no data plan for around the house and a minimalist phone for when I’m out or need to make a call in an emergency.

    • @AhsanteB
      @AhsanteB  Před 2 lety +2

      Spam calls are SO ANNOYING - all those calls are a big reason I keep my phone on do not disturb. And yes to a device without a phone plan for around the house!

    Wow, I love that you can still get first generation iPhones and they still work. Genuinely pleasantly surprised.
    Funny how things that are common practice when you're employed by someone else suddenly become revolutionary when you're self-employed.
    Some (idk if all) devices let you set up different accounts. Similar to Windows on desktop. When you're signed in to one account you won't get any notifications or whatnot from another account. So that's an aoption if you want to try this system but can't/don't want to buy several phones. Although logging out and in to each account does take a short while, a bit less easy than just reaching for a different phone. Then again, maybe that's a plus?
    Just realising that I also use three phones haha. One smart (always on mute. As you say, I check my apps.), one dumb (always on loud and more for emergencies, battery lasts 2 weeks), one work (for work and for work only). But I'm usually more of a desktop person at home haha.

    • @AhsanteB
      @AhsanteB  Před 2 lety +2

      Another 3 phone system! I hadn't heard of being able to set up different accounts to login on the same phone, that's interesting. And I love my little baby 1st gen iPhone SE :)

    Relatable. If Spotify released an actual device just for music I would totally buy. Can’t go to the gym without going on social😂

  • @sunmarsh
    @sunmarsh Před 2 lety +4

    Don’t let Apple hear about this idea… a different phone for different tasks/parts of your life… I’m surprised they haven’t thought of this!
    I love the size of the 1st gen iPhone SE, I will continue to use it until it’s no longer supported by major carriers.
    CZcams is my biggest distraction. I wish you could remove or limit Safari more easily. 😞

    • @AhsanteB
      @AhsanteB  Před 2 lety +1

      The 1st gen iPhone SE is so cute right!? I like the smaller size as well, totally agree. I ALSO wish Safari was easier to limit - I kind of rely on the mental phone separation to discourage me from surfing on the calm phone.

    Oh im so excited that someone else has multiple phones lol... I got a new phone recently and kept all my social media on the old one. i have now put most things on my new phone (insta, twitter, messanger). But tiktok stays on my old one (which is dead most of the time) so i dont sink 4-6 hours a day into watching it

    I think I'll get irritated using multiple phones.
    I try to temporarily delete every app I find myself mindlessly checking and to disable any notification that's not a conversation.

    The start was too relatable, and I don't use that word lightly. It was unsettling and entertaining :(
    I will say, I'm ultimately in agreement with you. Regulating your stimulation is a method that should become more normalised. Switching our mind off to tech entirely, or pressurising ourselves to constantly feels impractical and is often a form of guilt-ridden dishonesty to ourselves!
    Getting a second laptop/tablet for quick edits, tv, music, in bed work helped me to separate things in a similar way!

    • @AhsanteB
      @AhsanteB  Před 2 lety +1

      Haha, thanks Fran! Agree on normalizing regulating your stimulation - I feel like it's harder and harder to just give yourself space to be in the physical world around you, with how connected we're expected to be now.

    I actually did this "calm" phone as well a while ago because I didn't have anything to do with my old iPhone. I got a copy of my SIM card for it so I would be able to leave my main phone at phone :)
    Thanks for the idea of using the "calm" phone as the alarm in the morning!

    Very important just staying on track. I never thought of using more than one phone with intention. Sounds like an awesome idea. I am moving away from my social media endeavors which include too much low vibrating political information I can no longer tolerate in my life as I Ascend and vibrate higher reaching my goals. Thanks for such a great idea

    My mom bought another phone for the family and I use that. I have more of games and other stuff on there that my main phone doesn't have storage for so that's also a benefit of having multiple. I really don't have enough "stuff" to separate like that but I have made a conscious decision to not put my work email on my phone so I would have to login to desktop just to have that separation. I do have a flexible job so my boss can text me if they need, and I have my phone always on silent due to the nature of my job. Also one thing that has helped me is creating different desktop screens on my computer. I have one to do my work, personal stuff, etc, and I find that helps me just separates visually to not have tab clutter.

    • @kibrika
      @kibrika Před 2 lety +1

      Not really because just muting notifications and not having twitter on the phone works well enough for me. The only risky moment is going to bed when I chose to play some games I have on my phone, but that feels like a choice even if it's not the best choice for my sleep. I totally see how it works for you though. In your situation (if I had to have a social media presence) I'd be glad to have such a system.

    • @RumoHasIt

      Ive been using a 2 phone system. My every day phone is set up for minimal social media app usage, mostly used for alarms, etc. And work related activities. My 2nd phone is my old phone pre upgrade that has everything social media and shopping related. So cool to see you are doing this too!
