Boy I wish these were available in Europe. This is the prettiest vette that GM made in the last 40 years or so, it screams 80's as much as a Countach or a Testarrossa

I have an 88 35th Anniversary C4 that I’ve owned for over 19 years. Little over 40k miles on it and nothing says the 80’s like a C4. Love the car and it’s handling can keep up with many newer performance cars. Although the C4 may be least respected among all generations in my view it was one of the best generations.

Hey! Love the c4!!! I just took mine on a road trip from Southern California to northern Wyoming! Spent 2 weeks on the road and put 2146.3 miles on it. Didn’t have major problems. Only one light for low coolant came on in the morning, but it was about 15°F so it was just cold. But it handled the heat of death Valley and the snow in Yellowstone. Best car I ever had. Also some how I got my average mpg up to 21.3!

I have a 89 coupe with 42,000 miles I bought it less than a year ago! Needed cosmetics, I live in Tucson Az and sun takes toll on paint, weather stripping and interior. I was lucky mine just needed all new weather stripping and some touch up paint. But I did all fluids and added a 2 quart extra capacity Derale tranny pan, full tune up, all new brakes and rotors to include a brake system flush, newer chrome 17X8.5 and 17X9.5 rims from a 90’s C4 and new tires. Removed some awful window tint, detailed the entire car to include the suspension. It drives excellent and it’s Nassau blue paint is a real eye catcher! I paid $5300 for car, owner had some heath issues and wanted to sell fast. I have put around $2500 in the car, latest upgrade a fiberglass roof panel that needed paint. I bought on eBay for $450. I really like you series and your vette is awesome! Thanks for sharing all your info and upgrades! Joe Allen

I had owned quite a few C4s and I am also here in Utah. The first was a black 1992 LT1 6spd, then I had another 92 black also 6 speed, followed by a 1996 LT4 convertible 6spd (as all LT4s), then I had a 8K miles 1993 LT1 6spd and finally today I own a very rare 11K miles 1995 ZR-1. I also own other Corvettes older and newer from different gens. But always had a C4 in the garage because they are truly amazing to drive. A proper C4 has a much better steering feel than a newer C5. The most perfect C4 you can get should have at least a 6 speed transmission (they started in 1989 although in very limited quantity) and at least the LT1 engine, preferably a LT4. The ZR-1 with the dual over head cam and 32 valves LT5 is a completely different class on its own. The C4 has a great balance, great suspension, breaks and looks amazing specially from the driver's seat. A great buy in many different aspects. That being said, you can get a 6speed LT1 for a fair price. The convertibles do twist way more and the coupe works much better with the targa top on and properly torqued. Happy C4 motoring.

John here. I got into cars with my ‘84 Monte Carlo in ‘87 and a new ‘90 GT and then LX in 1989. Both had work done and I’d frequent the local drag strip. My friend Jose owned a ‘86 Pace Car Convertible Vette in yellow. He had the 434 engine and was following the Lingenfelter setup. He was running low 11’s and for 1991-92 that was quick. As I was 21 at the time I had never seen a Vette launch that hard. So much so it would squat and drag the exhaust tips in a shower of sparks. Its one of my favorite cars to this day. I later went on in ‘94 to run 11.7’s @124mph with my ‘quiet’ emissions legal LX 5.0L. I was always envious of Jose’s 86 vette. It was and will probably always remain the top dog from my youth as the top car to have even if me and my friends eventually went faster or quicker. I always felt, despite what a Camaro, Mustang, Pontiac, Porsche can achieve, its just not a Vette. Today I’m lucky to own a low mileage ‘04 MCSS, 14 Challenger and 19 Camaro. But I am missing one car. The C4. My other buddy MikeG still owns his ‘91 C4, also in yellow with a ‘massaged’ engine. He’s had it since ‘96. My only regret that I share with many friends from my racing days, wishing we had more video! Keep your C4 nice. There are many that appreciate this car as one of the best from a nostalgic perspective.

I used to own a 1975 corvette years ago (165 HP) and finally pulled the trigger to get another. I decided on the C4 due to price, availability and that i like the body style. Im very picky and I looked and looked and could not find one that suited my standards. UNTIL. I found one which was located 10 miles from where i live. 1992 Convertible. 57K miles 2nd owner. Red with the red sport seats. Original white convertible top as pristine as the day it came off the showroom floor. Paint is immaculate, wheels not a scuff, everything works perfectly. Anywho. But the surprise was that the original owner was an employee of GM. As this is a 1992 it should have had the LT1 engine installed. He changed the engine to the LT4, shorty headers, stainless exhaust and he even added the 6 speed transmission. The car originally was an automatic as stated in the RPO codes. This car was done right. It is now easily pushing 350 HP. Shifts and drives like new. The original owner sold it to buy a new corvette and the only reason this guy was selling it, he had 2, the other one was a 1992 coupe, auto with 39K miles and was also selling that one, was that he wanted a newer one also. It pays to wait, take your time and look around. The one for you is out there somewhere.

When they designed this Chief Engineer Dave McClellan said they were inspired by the USN F-14 Tomcat and visited a jet during development. It's from "Corvette From The Inside" (2002) so your description/screencap isn't that far off! You put in a ton of work in this video and it's great.
The C4 wasn't as fast off the line as some earlier C3s (1974-1982) but those C3s were limited to 125-130 mph by gearing and handled like pigs. This C4 was slower off the line in '84 but hit 140-142 with ease. Then came the '85's TPI system and 150 mph...bringing us where we are today with the C8.

I have her sorted out now and am driving her daily. This machine screams, it is comfortable to drive, handles great. I still have to do the seats, some weatherstripping, and will paint he back the factory color. The L98s, LT1 and LT4 are also great cars. For the money they can't be beat. If I found a good deal I could pay cash for one right now! 😃 I want one that’s in pretty decent shape though so I can drive it right away. I also want a convertible so they’re probably a bit more expensive. I’m thinking that it would be more ridged than a Targa because don’t they have an X frame? I wasn’t thinking I wanted any car from the eighties because those were the malaise years but it seems like everyone who has a C4 loves it.
I think the best thing about any Corvette though is that it’s a Chevy.

I miss mine. I paid $3300 for my 86' put almost $1000 into it, took it on a trip from Montana to Vegas to San Francisco, to portland, back to montana. Then after having it for 3 years sold it for $5500 making a little over a $1000 profit. Easiest thing to upgrade/repair is the fuel pump. I had it out and back in 15 mins. Managed 0-60 in 5.7, quarter mile in 13.9, and 152 mph top speed. Not bad for a $3300 car.

It's personal obviously, but apart from a Ferrari 288 GTO, could only think of a few cars that are as gorgeous, not many that are more gorgeous, especially from every angle ; and certaily none in the sub-20k range. @@armandoanaya7378 If the battery voltage is below 11 volts the car will crank but not start. Reason is not enough current left to power the 8 injectors and gas pump. Also the battery permanent drain current is 30 to 50 mA (radio + ECM mainly) if you leave the car 2 weeks in the garage.... it's almost sure that it won't start again. Solutions : I replaced the alternator by a 140 Amps output, replaced the battery by a red OPTIMA with side posts (no current leakage and 1000 Amps at peak) expensive but no more problems!

I hated the new 84 when I first saw the new design. I thought Chevrolet ruined the Corvette. I grew up loving the 68-72 models. My neighbor growing up had a 58, 68, and a 78. When I drove a 84 in 1985 I began to change my mind about the new Corvette. I have owned three of them now. Lots of fun. I really want to pickup a 68-74 Corvette to have alongside my 91 ZR1. But I can't rule out another C4. My first one was a 96 LT1 coupe. I have lately been thinking about a 86-89 convertible after owning coupes. A stock version would be fine. You can find plenty of low mile examples in any year C4.

I was going to do the same, but decided to go the C4 route. Here's some information to help you.
The C3 Corvette came at a time where the US car market was worse than awful. If you want a C3 with any kind of performance, 1968-1970 models are what you want. Even then, the technology at the time was very primitive, and to bring it up to speed in a restomod with be highly expensive, but is very possible. Unfortunately for the C3, you will find one in one of two states: Affordable in dilapidated and shitty condition, or restored for 50,000 dollars or more.
The C3 is a gorgeous car with amazing style, and if you have the money/time, go for it. A nice C3 world be hella fun to own, but if you're looking for a more Affordable price point, go the C4 route.
Whatever you choose, do your research, and choose the car that YOU want. Good luck.

I'd say if you get a c4 get a clean 96 zr1. but for the money you might as well get a clean c6. same horse power same price. then there's the 96 lt4. but for the same price you can get a clean late model c5. i guess for 10 grand a clean 90's c4 is a good value. as for the c3s, like the dude commented before me, the late model c3s are not performers stock. and for an early model c3 price you can get a clean c6 with 45,000 miles that's been garaged and babied it's whole life, maybe better. maybe it comes down to what was cool when you were in high school.😂

Folks bear in mind two major misconceptions re: Corvettes: First just because a Corvette has a fiberglass body, that doesn't mean the cars are not susceptible to damage from rust. It just means the body won't rust, and that's it. Second the cars don't become light just because the body is fiberglass. At 3200 lbs a '95 Vette is light by today's standards (the C8 is 200 lbs heavier than a C7, the C8 weighs in at 3700 lbs). A '95 Camaro was (only) 50 lbs heavier than the Corvette that year but the Vette wasn't 50 lbs lighter because Chevy saved weight with fiberglass; the '95 Camaro is an appreciably larger car yet the Corvette nearly matches its weight that year for example. That Vette uses heavy structure for rigidity.
