    Great video and suggestions. Not so sure about the air filter mod however. I have an 86 C4. I replaced the L98 motor with a 600HP 427 DART SHP small block. I am still using the factory air cleaner and cover. The bottle neck for the airflow was the neck section of the air cleaner assembly, not the filter cover. The filter cover louvers have adequate opening and do not restrict airflow even when drawing airflow at 600hp.

    Another mod recommended by former C4 engineer Gordon Killebrew is to run a wire down the fuel bib. Simply open the lid over the gas cap for access. This will clean out the spider crud that often forms and allows any excess water to drain instead of getting sucked into your gas tank in a major rain storm. Never got caught in a sudden downpour? Lucky you.

    • @jokerzwild00
      @jokerzwild00 Před 3 lety +12

      Opinion respected but I disagree heavily. On older cars I like the look of halogens so much better, LEDs have that "Autozone racer" look going on big time. Halogens aren't like incandescent bulbs for your home. They haven't stopped manufacturing them, matter of fact they are pretty ubiquitous and much cheaper than LEDs and modern manufactured bulbs are going to be plenty bright enough. They aren't sucking power from your wall so energy savings aren't a factor. They give a more period correct look if that's what you're going for with your specific build. If you don't care about that and want to buy LEDs more power to you, they definitely have a lot of good aspects, but it's not a "must do" thing.

I was super skeptical about putting them on my 87 thinking they would be too loud or wouldn’t sound good but I couldn’t be happier with them on. A 86 indy pace car I found, it was in a flood with no insurance, and sat beside a pole barn for 3 years before I got it. It was rebuilt by me around 18 years ago, and EVERYTHING electical has been replaced, and has been done inside to my specs. Nice custom leather seat covers I designed, center console and shifter boot to match. I'll be doing a repaint this winter because the paint needs redone. Also redoing a 81 vette I found under a tree at a chicken farm, been sitting for a decade. Everything will be rebuilt or replaced. My problem is I can't find the blinker arm with the cruise controls on it. Nobody make a replacement, and salvage places won't sell them. Any idea's where one is? I sold my 89 red six speed in 2001 with nearly 200k on it. Pretty much ever little quirk that the C4 is famous for was experienced during my time with that car but as you can tell by the mileage I put on it the car was seriously enjoyed and well loved. Having owned multiple versions of corvettes since then I would never want another C4 but it was fun at the time.

      No, you didn't feel a 30-40 hp gain. And if you had tested it on a Dyno or at the track the performance would've shown that it didn't do half that much. Especially not on a basically stock engine with stock tubular manifolds , stock y pipes etc.

    If you are not at wide open throttle, the throttle body (butterfly valve) is the primary air restriction in the intake so I don't think cutting open the airbox is going to yield much unless you are driving around with your foot all the way to the floor all the time. This mod has been discussed many times with marginal gains, if any. Maybe along with the airfoil you are getting more results than others who have cut their airboxes, it's certainly possible. If there were massive gains o be had, I don't think they would have designed it the way they did, leaving free horsepower sitting right there on the table.

    • @tomtom72
      @tomtom72 Před 3 lety

      Yes, check out the ZR-1 forum. We did chassis dyno tests a loooong time ago and found no measurable results. The cut lid is cool, but you need to do a screen over the cut as the C4 is a major bottom breather and will suck up anything on the road. Also look to protect the air intake openings at the underside of the fr bumper. Look over at the ZR-1 net registry site for a list of simple preventative mods or go to the ZR-1 forum and look around for the tech tips. Save the Wave!

      The biggest 'pro' for a C4 is that the steel chassis was dipped in primer with an electric charge vs. the C3 that did not use the dip tank for the chassis. Watch the 'birdcage' on the C3's and C4's. The tell tail rust streaks can be found by removing the kick panels and pealing the carpet back. Save the Wave!
