The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-11 is a great first sportbike!

  • I decided it was time to learn to ride a sportbike so naturally I chose a vintage 147hp 1052cc monster that was 1000mi away.

    Glad you made it home alive on old hard cracked tires. I have a 1994, original owner, rode it all over western US and Canada. Love the sound of the motor, brings back so many memories.

    Just got one yesterday. It was a horrible drive home. Cold, windy, and riding in rain for 3 hours. The whole trip lasted 13 hours as I rode with a friend to the pickup location. On the way back it became night and started to rain. Luckily I prepared and had a wetsuit. Was fun and miserable the whole trip. Lol
    Edit: The whole bike is factory original.

    Hi mate, looks like you have got yourself a nice example of a great bike. A point to bear in mind, these bikes do not have slipper clutches so giving the throttle a blip when changing down is important for smoothness, instant acceleration and traction, particularly when entering a bend. Enjoy mate.

    It's a terrific buy- congratulations I got the 97D5, had a C2 before that- you definitely nailed it in the power department.
    ...there's a reason rider's suggest you ease your way into it though, I honestly prey you survive the decision, you sound sensible enough to be patient in giving her the full send,
    but that's all I'll say seeing my first was a vfr750r, and even that was way too much bike for a stupid kid.
    ...Having watched you ride I go back to preying, crossing fingers, and that kinda thing.
    Your in over your head son. Lol no electronic aids to curb your enthusiasm here, this mustang is wild, and will buck when you flog it!
    ... also it's a litre bike- you don't need revs because your not racing, you can ride it lazy, no need to chop it up a hill- think of revs as engine life- make yours last longer

    Just remember that with "great power comes great responsibility"! don't get overly intoxicated with speed my friend...I know it;s FUN...but it can BITE YOU if your not careful! I've had 6 ZX11's both C + D models...and a modified 99 Hayabusa that was clocked at over 200 m.p.h. pick a safe place to open her up and don't race "all the time"! your playin "Russian Roulette" with your life mate..98% of the time just ride normally..with 2% racing...then you'll live a long time...like me!(70 yrs. young!)

    This bike is a legend. It was the fastest for years until the Hayabusa hit the road. It's brutal, powerful and nervous. Definitely not the first sportbike I'd recommend. Ninja 400 is way better to build the riding skills you'll need in the long term to face and survive any emergency situation you may encounter on the road. But seems like you've already made your choice. All the best!

    • @anonimous2451
      @anonimous2451 Před 9 měsíci +1

      Just slightly incorrect. 1999 CBR1100 Blackbird took the crown before Hayabusa did, but, the ZX14 has been the top champ for years now.

    • @Neuroway
      @Neuroway Před 9 měsíci +2

      @@anonimous2451 True, but I didn't include the Blackbird in my comment because it was so short lived and eclipsed by the coming of the Hayabusa, which stills stands tall even today. ZX14 is not a legend. ZX11 and Hayabusa are.

  • @Neuroway
    @Neuroway Před rokem +5

    Forgot to mention: it's very heavy too. Riders without experience tend to drop their bikes, especially heavy ones. A 500 pounds 140HP monster is not exactly the best partner to learn to lean in corners at whatever speed.

    140 at night on the highway? Scary shit man. I bought a side winder steering wheel and foot pedals and set it up on my computer and played all the Need for Speed games. That got me over my need for speed. It was a riot, and safe. I played them all, from Porsche Unleashed to Underground etc.. Then got into flight simulators and finally saved the Galaxy as commander of the SR-2 in Mass Effect. Greatest game of all time. I still play Legendary. Waiting for the next Game. Logged about 5,000 hours playing ME 1 to ME 3. Life is great.😛🤣
    Are you into gaming? Halo Infinite is awesome too. Witcher; Morrowind, Elder Scrolls, Max Payne, Hitman,...that's what I do in the winter when not working out in my gym or shoveling snow. Keeps me young.
    Easy with the throttle. Good friend of mine worked in Miami as a Respiratory Tech was driving home one day from work and someone drove through a red light and broadsided him......game over for him. Pissed me right off. That was years ago, and it still bothers me. We used to train together.
    Sorry for the rant.
    Be safe. Shit happens, but we can all try to make good things happen.

    Bruh, take that rear spindle and spin it to turn the axle to the bottom. It helps handling immensely, but, The Center Stand will not lift the rear wheel off the ground. You will need a wooden block to help do that. That machine wants to do triples and is not happy unless it is above 7k rpm and over the 1double0

    Thirty five years ago I had one of these as my first superbike. Prior to this I had a little 550 twin. The Kawasaki scared me to death. Really fast . Too fast and too much bike for a novice. 35 years later, at the age of 67, and many bikes later, I have another ZZR 1100 D3. Its derestricted. Its super quick, comfortable and I love it. it.
    I certainly would not recommend this bike for a novice rider. It could bite you if not treated with respect.

    Question. When you are in traffic and it gets hot, up to where does the temperature needle reach to?
    I recommend you changing the water hoses and the brake lines. Also check the gas hoses beneath the tank. They get brittle and they must be 25 years old. Drive safe!

    I'm sure you have many great videos, but for this one, the title should be changed to Kawasaki Ninja ZX-11 casual cruise... Then I would have understood this... I must have said come on man, get on it, go WOT at least 10 times throughout the portion of the video I watched! I then had to stop the video after you got owned by those clearly slower bikes that you passed, then let blow by you, where I'm sure they left you in the back permanently I'm assuming, since you switched to the next day. That's where I stopped the video. I thought this was going to be an awesome ZX-11 video, where you show the viewers what it can do, instead of slowly bringing the rpm's up, not even at half throttle most of the time. My father bought a new 1994 Ninja ZX-11 when I was 15, and I remember what a rocket that bike was! I was hoping to see that here. Oh well.
