My Patreon And Why I Demonetised This Channel

In this video I explain why I have decided to go completely Ad-free on CZcams on CZcams, having demonetised my entire channel. I also explain why I might be less likely to respond to comments and direct messages, emails etc very swiftly, or even at all, in future. And give you an idea of what to expect from a Patreon membership in terms of VIP access and extras.
This is in no way intended to be a "hard sell" to get people to sign up to my Patreon, it is simply an explanation of why I have set one up, and letting you know what that might mean going forward.
Please do feel free to NOT join my Patreon and continue to enjoy my CZcams content which will continue without interruption from advertisers, or video sponsors. 😊👍
Hello David, just found your channel and have started to enjoy your output. One thing caught me attention, no adverts. I am a Musician
and had over 200 Videos and like you have never allowed adverts since starting in 2008. YT got in touch some time ago and informed me
they would be attaching Adverts whether I liked it or not, as a result I took down my content leaving only 3 videos, YT then took away my
ability to put up new content or adjust what I had, in other words it is now dead with just three videos, I don't have to tell you I am looking
elsewhere, I have never been monetised despite some of my Videos having between one and one and half views. James Kerr Scotland.

Hello David, this makes total sense. There’s only so much of yourself that you can give before the process becomes invasive. Over a year and a half ago I did communicate with you directly. You were very kind to respond, which I really appreciated. Even though you don’t know it you gave me the confidence to switch from FF to M43. You are a very grounded presenter.
Your love and passion for what you do projects with great depth from your videos providing a wealth of knowledge which you share so unselfishly. Thank you for that.
I watch a lot of CZcams videos about photography. My wife says that you are the ONE presenter on the service whom she doesn’t find annoying. I think that’s a superb compliment! 😂

Mate nice move, I totally agree I personally detest ads on others channels so I feel crap about having them on mine. I'm under the impression even if you deactivate ads YT still chucks them on thereby clipping your ticket, also I've noticed since having ads on my stuff the subs have increased a bit so I guess they push the channel a tad more. So for me for now I'll keep them activated It's only a pittance but it might as well be my pittance rather than all YTs. All the best with it mate cheers
Yeah, you're right, I'm told that there is still the odd advert being shown despite switching them off!
exactly mate It's their platform they want to make a quid off your content, so ya might as well nab a few cents off it too. @@DGriffGallery
Much kudos to you, David. You are one of the very few channels with integrity and decency, and I respect that greatly. I am hoping to visit your part of the world for some photography, and I would hope to engage your services when I do so.

For me personally, yes always a personal choice as you say. It was a ‘no brainier’ to become one of your Patreons. One of only 2 Patreon memberships I have. The other being non-photography. You clearly invest a lot of time and effort into your channel. The content makes for inspirational, educational and entertaining viewing. I hope this is a great success. It will be well earned.

Thanks so much for your continued support, Robin. I will definitely do my best to keep up with the constant flow of correspondence and, of course, CZcams comments as best I can. But I'm really pleased that people seem to understand that I had to set something up to allow me to prioritise. I will definitely still be sharing plenty of free content on CZcams and hope I have been able to come across as not trying to plug a paid membership as a cynical exercise. 😊👍

Thanks David, have always enjoyed your content and you remain one of an every decreasing number of CZcams photographers who remain true to the photography itself rather than endless "here's some new kit" woven promotions that seem to be invading the creative space at an alarming rate. You've been very helpful in the past with my visits to Eryri and I've been consuming your old videos again recently before another visit next weekend (I always keep an eye out for you on the mountainsides!!). I actually like the buy me a coffee option as well - it allows a bit of spontaneous giving if something strikes in a vlog a good chord. Just a thought

I have admired your channel over the years and really appreciate your upfront honesty that shines through. Also I must admit I am leaning towards a Patreon model myself with an exclusive gift to members every month perhaps a limited edition print of my work. I have done giveaways before but not on a regular basis . Have you any experience or advice on this Dave ?

Google really doesn't like you not monetising your videos. This one didn't even show up on the subscription tab on my phone.
No it's a problem I guess, but I'd prefer fewer people watch and get more enjoyment from my work. Subscribers get notifications I guess. 😊👍
The way to go David, you could end up spending too much time on here and lose the plot.
Maybe add a link to your patreon page for us computer illiterates?
