- Wood Thrushes are medium-sized, pot-bellied songbirds with dark spotting on their breast, and rich, brick-red coloration on their upperparts. Like other thrushes, they have a beautiful, flute-like song, which is commonly heard during spring and summer in deciduous forests of the eastern U.S.

You can be alone in the woods... but never feel that way when these birds are around... their songs are very comforting.
At least it os night 😅
I agree, wood thrushes are definitely my favorite bird because of their beautiful song
Most hauntingly beautiful resonance, throughout the hills..Ethereal sounding songbird..My favorite..🙂
In a native American legend, they say that the Wood Thrush got it's song after flying so high that it saw the spirit world high in the Heavens. Its song is inspired by that ethereal other world and it is the greatest song of all the birds.
This is so lovely. I don’t understand the 23 people who gave this a thumbs down. Who are these people and what is the matter with them?
It's quite easy to accidentally do it I've done it before accidentally
That is the nature of an internet troll...
I second that, Laurie. Over 50 for me. I heard this bird the other day in an excursion through the woods and it instantly made me 1000x happier than I already was. As of now, the wood thrush is my favorite bird.
There are now 55 of these sociopaths!
Problem is, the more you talk about it, the more they'll respond. There are a lot of stupid people out there who have the maturity of a 12 year old.
THIS is the bird I’ve heard for so long & referred to as the “R2D2” bird cos I didn’t know what it was! Finally found it.
Lol
That's hilarious! I've also been calling them R2D2 birds 😂
You birders are a nice group. Sometimes when I post on CZcams, the responses I get make me think “What’s your problem? Why are you personally attacking me? Did humans raise you? etc.”
There is another bird called a bobolink that actually voiced R2D2's sounds. It also lives in the eastern US and can be found singing in meadows.
Wow....didn’t know that!
I love the sound of the Wood Thrush. So magical.
My sisters and I call it the magical bird!
I love birds more then anything in the world. I am 14 and was camping in Virginia. And all day there were many wood thrushes singing! It was amazing!
Ican only imagine
I live in the Virginia Blue Ridge mountains, and I just heard my first Wood Thrush of the year. They are back! I look forward to it, so much. Most beautiful bird song ever!
birds aren't real.
The wood thrush has a certain bell like quality that is truly magical! Thanks
Most peaceful and beautiful song of any bird. So relaxing at dusk.
The glorious sound of the Appalachian forests..
Saw one of these for the first time 03/2024. Live in a single family home in suburbs of the Piedmont in North Carolina, USA. Neighborhood has lots of mature trees but isn't a "wooded area," per se. It was guzzling peanuts at our peanut hopper. We had to look it up in our NC bird ID field guide to ID it. Rare sighting at our backyard feeder. We were delighted to say the least!
i have never seen them but i have heard them. they do this one beautiful call and now i have finally found the bird that makes this call.
And all on one leg! Bravo!
Beautiful and uplifting. We are so lucky to be able to hear this beautiful bird’s song!
My favorite bird song ever, with the Eastern Bluebird running a close second.
My favorite sound in the woods.
What a cutie. I wish this were longer. I love just listening to a wood thrush song as it echoes in the woods. I miss them so much now that I live in LA.
Ah, what me and my mom call Spring Bird!
I live in western New York with woods and a creek behind the house. I’ve been hearing this sweet song in springtime at dawn and dusk for years but could never see it. Thanks for the video. Now I can stop googling and be at peace knowing what this special bird is.
A lovely part of my morning and evening concert. (How could anyone dislike this?)
Yeah, I don't understand haters, they just dislike everything and I have no idea how they could hate this.
They meant to hit the like button but missed.
Most mornings I can sit on my back porch and listen to the beautiful song of the Wood Thrush. My favorite way to begin each day.
Allday long here at our gouseah
BEST bird song EVER!!!
This sounds always makes my heart happy. Thank you for sharing! 👍❤️
This is my favorite bird song in the evening
I’ve been hearing this bird call all day. So I opened up my Cornell Ornithology app. It lets me record the bird call and a possible ID is given. I love listening to all the birds, some sticking around, others just passing through.
I love to hear wood thrushes in the woods behind our house.
Thank you! I have been trying to identify this bird for years. I absolutely love its song.
Me too
Oh gosh do I know that frustrating feeling of hearing a mysterious bird call and not being able to identify it! I remember hearing this one bird in Virginia around spring, flying high in the canopy of some very tall trees. It was singing a gorgeous tune I had never heard before. I was new to Virginia, and lived there for two years. Never heard that bird again since that one time.
@@BlinkinFirefly I hope that you discover that bird song once again! It does make it difficult with birds that migrate. I only hear the song of the wood thrush for MAYBE a full month out of the year. Even then, I hear it only sparingly. When I do hear it, I just stop, close my eyes, and listen and soak it in. I hope that you find your lost bird one of these days!
@@HabitualJoker Thank you! Yeah, I was thinking similarly, that it might just be a migrating bird taking a break in the neighborhood. And also similarly, hearing the wood thrush was a rare treat for me too. Indeed, just savoring the song is all one can do ^^ I wish I could describe the mystery bird's call, but I forgot exactly how it sounded. How I wish I had recorded it, but the moment was so fleeting. Happy birding!
This gives me reason to live! Proof positive there is a loving God!
I have a clock with 12 different bird sounds and at 4: 00, this is my favorite bird sounds.
Comforting . Ethereal sounding . Magical Peaceful . Beautiful . Relaxing . Uplifting . makes Heart Happy .
reason to live' there is a loving God
These are my favorite to hear. Beautiful songs.
The most beautiful song of all the thrushes.
There is a wood thrasher that stays in a bush by my window, he are she always makes sure that I notice she is there. And we stare at each other for a long time, then she flys a way. Amazing bird.😀💝
Birds are the best sounds.
Nature's music. No man can compete.
Beautiful. Our wood thrush also has a beautiful song. And they’re in trouble and are in steep decline. They’re on the watchlist (yellow phase) for status, and they’re considered endangered. I can’t even imagine what it will sound like if the wood thrush were no more, leaving us nothing but electronic echos of songs we’ll never hear in the wild again.
Oh no! I didn’t know that. I’m in Southern Illinois on a rural property. We used to hear them regularly in spring & I rarely hear them now even though I’m home more. Thanks for sharing that, need to check it out. Scary!
What a beautiful song!! I miss hearing them in Florida. I heard them often when I lived in Pa and always wondered what bird it was. I did some research and found it to be the wood thrush. I look forward to hearing them on my yearly visits back home.
I have the pleasure of hearing this song at both dawn and dusk this summer. :)
these are in my top 10 bird calls
Utterly beautiful.
My FAV bird song !!!
This is a song that takes me back to childhood. love it!
It is present here in Michigan too. I always look forward to hearing the song of this bird in May - June.
Me too. I'm in central Michigan. It took years of trying to identify it and finally did. I just love hearing it. You know spring is here!
Amazing song
Beautiful. I just used this to get my thrushes to sing to me! God is good.
i love birds, as you can probably see from my profile pic (edit: Why did 50 people give this a video a thumbs down? It's not controversial, and it is a beautiful song. So why?)
Beautiful!
My favorite bird. ❤️
I love wood thrushes!!
by far, My favorite too! the song reminds me of a bubbling brook.
Beautiful song.
This bird song plays in the background of the 'hay day' app & I thought it was so pretty. Then when I visited my dad this week I heard the same bird in his yard. You folks who get to hear this beautiful song every day are lucky! It's better for them to live out in the woods- at least they won't fly into a window.
Song I will never forget
Adorable
It song is fabulous.
Liquid gold!!!!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
My favorite songbird
Very, very cool.
I just heard one in my yard. Very pretty
My dad and I call this bird “Brown feathered irritator”!
Trop beau!!😍 j’aime tellement cet oiseau ❤️
That's a little bit like a nightingale....
One of my favorite tunes of the Virginia forest.
My favorite bird song
Mindblowing video.... loved it
"...on a green branch, its wings just lightly touched
by the passing foil of the water, the thrush,
puffing out its spotted breast, will sing
of the perfect, stone-hard beauty of everything." (Mary Oliver, "The Poet With His Face in His Hands")
Excellent video
To me, the wood thrush's song is like a waterfall of sound
such a sweet and soft song.....a little like a robin I thought
Well, American robins are members of the thrush family, too!
Also seen and heard in Canada ;)
I have one of these in my yard ❤
Wow it's beautiful 🥹
Well I finally found out the song I hear is a wood thrush. We have 6 acres and hear them but have never seen.!
The very best oh my gosh
I heard they have two sets of vocal chords and that seems amazing,, Like they could harmonize with their own songs
The wood thrush, it is! Now I know
Who sings that clear arpeggio,
Three far notes weaving
Into the evening
Among leaves
And shadow;
Or at dawn in the woods I've heard
The sweet ascending triple word
Echoing over
The silent river
But never
Seen the bird.
Learning the Name, Ursula le Guin
I see these birds chasing bugs around the yard but I don't recognize the song.
May is a thrush singing “Sun up!” on a tip-top ash tree - “Lilacs” by Amy Lowell
Also, sounds to me like a bird song in an echo chamber
Does he only have one leg to stand on?
Does anyone know the birdsong in the background at the start of the video?
What is the bird off in the distance. I've heard that so many times and have yet to find out what kind of bird that is.
Holly Potthoff cardinal
Mick Lumb Thank you!
Wood thrush
Official bird of DC
This is th bir waking me up at 3 am, aren't they supposed to be diurnal tho?
What is the other bird song in the back ground?
Two other species are singing in the background - American robin and northern cardinal.
Does anyone know the bird call in the background from 0:12-0:14? I've been trying to identify that one too
sounds like a Cardinal to me..
There are two songs in the background during that interval - first an American robin followed shortly by a northern cardinal.
called the mavis too
Subhan Allah
Is this the most similar birdsong to hunger games?
Anybody know what that bird in the background is?
4 months late but it could be a cardinal, they kinda got this laser pew call
@@crustacean78 I think you're right 😁 Thanks friend!
ZTC lovers, where you at 🤯
favorite bird ,does he only have 1 leg?
nope... Birds like to lift one leg up during perching sometimes.. even pigeons do it too
I know that but he ,,she sure does have it hidden well,I miss them in the winter
nice but... interlace stripes... export must gone wrong.
beautiful! Having only one leg doesn't seem to bother him at all.
Lol he's just perching. All healthy birds stand on one leg, it conserves body heat. xD
Anyone else here because of Eliot?
Only Jesus the Creator, could come up with such a beautiful sounding bird!
It is my favorite bird-sound.
Mindblowing video.... loved it
