The common nightingale (Luscinia megarhynchos) is considered the best bird singer in the world. It usually sings in dense vegetation near water where it lives and breeds. Its amazing song can often be heard even during the night. Not many birds can sing so loudly and persistently as a male nightingale. This nightingale is in Beethoven's Pastoral along with quail and cuckoo (said by the composer himself). In Fur Elise (without the composer's statement) some chords are reminiscent of this nightingale's song.

i've read (in Isabella Tree's book Wilding) that a nightingale typically has a repertoire of 180 'riffs' out of the total 250 of the whole species repertoire.
also the males probably sing at night to attract females who flight at night (from equatorial africa) to avoid predation and males attract them by their night song to land and nest with them (remember that birds usually don't see much or at all at night).
also males change the song once they attract the female to nest with them. the mood of the song changes to more territorial. and once they have to feed the hatched young ones they stop singing all together.
the songs captured here feel more like the territorial ones to me.

Now that spring is here the birds are around singing in the early morning.
We have a closely related species here in Northern Europe, called the thrush nightingale. It's song is quite similar. The two species used to be one, but got separated and became two distinct species because of the Weichselian glacial period.
