Love the yard too! Well landscaped. Thanks for the shop tour. Looking forward to getting mine finished. Glad to hear you are getting back into hot rodding. My dad and I have a old square body S10 we are in the works of building.

Excellent video. I would add letting a pro build the garage--for example, a steel reinforced concrete floor is a good idea in case you one day get a great deal on a car lift :) Good point about the sink--if you ever land an RV to swap out its big block gas engine, consider taking out the bathroom-kitchen setup for a "free" design that's intended to take up as little space as possible and self-contain its grey water/septic. Put your first aid station there. Hang your fire extinguishers by the escape routes, along with trash containers (if a fire begins in one, you may be able to drag it outside and save the shop).
For those who may laugh at a big screen TV, if you find one for free on the side of the road that allows you to hook up a laptop, consider grabbing it. there may be one day you want to call up a repair video on your wireless connection, and being able to put on in the big screen to catch small detail might be worth the struggle to get that sucker into your car.
You can get tools cheaper though estate sales and shop bankruptcies, and you get a chance to walk around the house and see how the owner treated them--you may find the older stuff that don't have all the fun options new tools have, but they may be built to last. I watched a video of a fellow who bought a tire mounting machine, without an idea of how dangerous one can be to operate without training--so keep in mind some jobs should just be outsourced. If you have a grinder or other tool that throws sparks and whatnot, consider mounting it on an old driveshaft with a truck drum brake as its base, or jig up something else that allows you to use the tool outside and keep the mess out there, not where you build an engine.

They make some piston sleeves that are adjustable to fit more than one bore size, I have one that as a adjustable clamp on it to fit 4.00" to 4.185" bore... Those piston ring sleeves are the best when installing the pistons in the block, great design! Although the get expensive if you need them for different bore sizes.

It looked like we were going walk into your living room, super sanitary shop. I was surprised you ran C-modified Prduction cause I did too in 72 and 73 believe it or not I also ran 11.09 however it was a 4spd and it wasn`t consistant, she run between 11.22 and some times 11.09.(best time) Shop size, I think you`ll find that no matter how much bigger you make it in a short time it will be too small. Nice video

Nice video and good looking shop.
In my case I would have mentioned to have a good piece of concrete or asphalt in front of the door - I collect so much good junk inside that I spend a lot of time out there.

Thanks shanman, I would have liked to but I didn't have the ceiling height. It would have been more useful when I was preparing a race car in the shop. Now for building engines and the occasional installs, It is not a big problem. They also take up floor space. Thanks for the comment and interest in my channel. AG

My goodness I see similarities out our things. From the use of velcro to keep things togther like the hone tool to the mastercraft temp laser and milwaukee ½" impact and dewalt torque tool. Must be a fellow canadian ;) your shop is an indpiration though.

Nice shop. What did you seal the floor with? And what do you do for shop protection when welding?

    • @goldsgarage8236
      @goldsgarage8236  Před 11 měsíci

Thanks Mike. I should have mentioned it. I made the mistake of paying for a smooth surface. The problem is that even 2 part epoxy doesn't stick very well. I finally rented a grinder and ground it down. That helped and the paint stuck pretty well. I haven's painted since about 5 years. Maybe this year.
I do very little welding now that the race car is gone. The Camaro is always covered. I originally framed the wall under the AC for a big fan but never found the need to install it.
Thanks for your interest in my channel. AG

Nice little shop you built for yourself, 1 foot bigger than my 26' X 27' garage I have. Would of built it bigger but the stupid code crap over here wouldn't allow it!🤬
Kinda weird you said feet instead of metric yous guys use over there.(I'm not complaining, just noticing) 😎👍

If you were born before 1970 in Canada, you still think in imperial measurements and MPH, at least I still do, and many young people here in Canada are pretty good using both metric and imperial.

All good comments, thanks. Yes I built it to the square foot as much as the code would allow.
I was borne in 1948 so I still think in feet and inches. Canada never finished the metric conversion, so lumber in Canada is still sold the same way.
