- With this project now well underway Ed & Dave of crystal clear aquatics are finally near completion, tackling construction of the feature wall, water blade and paving- with a little distraction from a grass snake along the way!

I'm a Bricklayer by trade and I'm in absolute awe of your craftsmanship!
Around 39:57 into the video the type of pointing you're referring to is called 'Bucket Handle' because traditionally bricklayers would use a bucket to keep their tools in and the handle to 'joint up' with.

I'm in the early stages of creating a quackquaponics system involving ducks, a stream, a pond, bog in a barrel filters, growing beds and wicking beds. I've been watching loads on ponds etc when all of a sudden I discover that Tom Ellis is now pimping ponds. Who knew!?

She is coming along very nice, the stone work is flawless. Now knowing that you are a guitarist , I can see the artistic talent in your pond builds. One can see the augmented feel of your approach to finalizing a stone placement so that it is just right to ones sight as is a guitar chord to ones ear ! I totally get it I've been trying to play the guitar for almost 50 years now. I can appreciate your talent and patience , especially trying to share/ teach via video. I'm sure it's not an easy thing to do.

Tip for your keyless chuck , when you tighten the chuck as tight as it will go , turn the chuck backwards one click and it will lock the chuck and stop the drill bit from working itself loose 💪it would suprise you how many people don't know this ,

@@rickybell2.056 although i’m sure this would be effective-and for my own use I’d be more then happy to get experimental- for customer installations I’m not going to get involved in D.I Y filtration installations. Off the shelf (but effective) units only! Im not a massive fan of using filter floss or other such fine media in a filter unless absolutely necessary. This media is really intended for single use (although people do try and wash and re-use its not very effective) and I’m not a fan of anything thats single use (environmentally). Floss definitely has its place- but in my opinion its more useful in aquariums rather then ponds. Thankfully all the ponds I work on and install filtration on generally wouldn’t require such additional levels of water polishing- they’re clear enough already!

Good question-one I’ve been asked a few times over various videos and something I shall mention more clearly in future; no, the mortar is not sealed-lime (and other chemicals) will leach out of the freshly laid stonework and mortar once the pond is first filled and will continue to leach out, albeit in a reduced amount over time. It’s very important once the pond has been constructed to submerse any stonework/mortar that is coming into contact with water (simply fill the pond up) and allow this to soak for a week or two, before draining and refilling. The pond should then rest for an additional few weeks to establish before adding livestock. If the pond water developes a milky or blue appearance (a sign of lime from the cement) then additional partial water changes will be necessary, but I find one soak is usually sufficient.

Can you tell me what size Oase pump you’re using in this pond? You may very well have said and I missed it, being somewhat distracted by film of you clambering into your waders, at least twice. 😊
Hi Toni, two pumps were used in this pond; for the filtration I used an Oase aquamax eco premium 20,000 pump and for the water blade a smaller Oase aquamax eco classic 5500 pump.

Will the pickle weed be ok with koi in the pond, or is it going to be the usual dig up and eat situation.

Hi there! The intention with all the marginal planting zones around the edges is that the water is too shallow for the koi to access the plants and as a result they should grow quite happily and undisturbed by any koi activity.

Now that I am retired I have time and just recently started picking again, mostly to get my old hands back in shape and practice my chops. Are those jubilee clips not dangerous to the fish?
I think you get some that are galvanised so don't rust.
@@BigRobuk I’m thinking more the sharp edges. There are some plastic ones but unsure what they are like. Personally, I would put solvent weld pipes from the pumps.
Hi there, it’s a good point and yes-to a koi purist this would most likely be a no no. However the clips are tucked up out of the way, and were deliberately chosen not to be oversized with a large amount of excess clip once torqued down. If I had any concerns, wrapping with electrical or some other waterproof tape would reduce risk-which is minimal in any case. Indeed koi-especially so during spawning-could well injure themselves on the pumps themselves, the rock edging or aquatic baskets. Again if this was exclusively a ‘koi’ pond it would be left bare of anything submersed-relying on bottom drains rather then a pump fed system. But this is more of a feature/hybrid pond, with the focus more on aesthetics rather then an out and out fish pond. Was a good point to bring up though.
