The two main areas of improving your strokes are usually having better consistency and hitting with more power.
But did you know that you can improve both at the same time by focusing on one single goal?
That one goal is that you try to hit the ball in your ideal strike zone.
When you hit a forehand or a backhand in that ideal strike zone your body functions optimally - you have the most power in that position and it's the most natural way to swing.
This week's video explains:
- how to find and determine this strike zone,
- 2 reasons why you may not be hitting balls in the strike zone,
- and the most effective drill to teach the player on how to adjust with their feet in order to position themselves at the ideal distance from the ball.
The key message of the article is this: do not try to adjust to the ball with your arms but try to adjust with your feet. - Sport
I marvel not only at your tennis knowledge but also at your excellent communication skills

I have seen almost all your videos. All are great. I ll feel ungrateful if I don't write it atleast for this great instruction. Thank you.
I really liked your message about "paying the price" with your footwork and effort.
l
I'm wondering if the ball will take an IOU ?? ... ;-)
Good exercise
Yes, I love this!
This is the best tennis teaching channel on youtube
Phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal instruction. Best I've ever come across.
First time watching you....what a find!!! You are an amazing communicator and I have learnt so much in this one video.
"The price for good tennis shots is excellent footwork" priceless and so true. Even at 60+ I am still passionate about my tennis.
Never to old to learn something new. Thank you for your efforts much appreciated.
Amazing. It really helps at this point in my learning (1.5 years) where I've worked hard on technique but just recently realized that my footwork and timing are as important as anything else.
Love your teaching skills!! Thank you!
So good. Love this. And love the exercise. As usual, thank you for what you do.
Excellent knowledge about the game, every video you make is so useful
I play handball in nyc and for years I could not figure out how to fix my hitting form. Then I learned what proper form was but didn’t know how to hit with good form as much as possible. I think your video nailed my issue. I lean forward a lot sometimes to the point I am very off balance. This causes lots of pulled muscles and soreness. I will practice your drill but modified for handball by running with my elbow in my hip and try to get the ball into my hand. I really appreciate this video and hopefully this can improve my game.
Very nicely explained. Thank you for the tips.
You're a great instructor. Your voice is calm so it adds the element of relaxation while you learn.
Love your videos and tennis instruction. Everyone is a pearl!
Many Congrats Tomaz on your video. Your advice and explanation approach was very useful for me because help me understand why my forehands are so weak. Your thinking and explanation was out of the box
thank you! Excellent explanation and excellent exercise
hip technique finding comfort hitting zone is amazing! you my hero!
Excellent. I now how 4 things from your videos to try to hit the ball in the ideal strike zone. Watching the ball, waiting for the ball, aim to hit the ball in front and this one. If only the rain would stop so I can experiment with these 🙏
Excellent training video
Thank you again for more one excellent video, very helpfull.
Fantastic video, very enlightening as usual! I definitely adjusted too much with my arm lol
This video is about fundamental informations that a lot of tennis player doesn't know. Very useful. Thanks. You teach very well.
Very helpful this video too! Good advises
Great lesson. I love it.
This was very helpful, thank you. Also, I have a tendency to overrun the ball sometimes or just hit the ball too close to me. How do I fix that?
Excellent videos.. thank a lot
Thank you! Great tutorial.. 🙏
Excellent communication - Many thanks
"you have to pay the price for good shots". That's perfect. loved it.
Great video! Assuming you have a baseline level of technical skill, this lesson demonstrates the absolute necessity of fitness. You must be fit to be a good tennis player (especially in singles).
thank you for another helpful video
Thank you. This was really helpful.
Find the ball with your feet - brilliant! Great video!
simple effettive and as good as It gets as always very good job !
Thank you so much! this is very useful and tells me what mistake i have and the real reason.
Really helps. thanks!!
if ive learned something from your videos, is, stretching to get the ball, trying to conserve energy, you waste more effort in the swing than you would if you got in the proper position. so its actually more conserving of energy to get into proper position
Very well demonstrated
Good video... thanks for sharing. I did a video about a year back where I plotted Djokovics moment within a point and froze it at contact...every ball was in his strike zone. I then placed an x on the court where he hit from... I did this for every ball. Of course there were many x's on the court and all were plotted around the court but the strike zone was never compromised. My point in doing this video was to show how he moved to make the ball cross his strike zone...most people would tell me he was right on top the baseline hitting but my video proved otherwise. it love to see you do a similar video.
Simple instruction, but so powerful and effective
extremely useful advice
Can’t wait to show this to my 8 year old. Also what a beautiful court! Thank you!
The "racquet-at-hip" drill at 12:30 is a great idea. Thank you!
Thank you very much for this video/instruction drill, definitely going to use to train my 6 yr old.
I'm a big fan of yours Thomas, u have a sharp mind to detect what other instructor don't see. I'm struggling a lot with my backhand (at a point where I'm still not even sure wether to pick a 2hands or 1hand backhand). I watched a lot of CZcams video about the subject but nothing works, I always seem to hit the ball at a bad position of the racket (I hear a bad noise). you never did video about backhands did you ? I'd love to hear what you have to say about the subject :)
Will be interesting a short video of differences in forehand backswings between Federer style (hitting racquet face pointing down to the ground) and Djokovic/Wawrinka style (hitting racquet face pointing to the back fence).
I guess that point about "the ball is coming and I need to reach it.." at 6:08 goes back to your earlier video about intention (or lack of). If you have a clear intention everything else follows.
Tomaz sir...can you please upload a video on forehand slice...
Your videos are great and I want you to upload it ...and if you have uploaded then kindly give me the link
Really we appreciate ...
Great stuff, will use it for my students ;-)
thanq tomaz
amazing!
Спасибо!
Awesome.
I love the thought of "the price to play good tennis." My price is no instant noodles... :D
Nice Animation!
I really like this video thanks for your efforts 😂
Please please please upload a video on how to hit deeper forehands with speed
Bravo
probably one of the most important lessons in the history of tennis lessons.
I will use this drill with my children, thank you coach Tomaz
Excellent teaching. The racquet at hip is a great idea as already outlined also by Yiming Zhang
Are the light rackets good to master hiiting at the ideal strike zone ???
How can you always hit the ball in the ideal strike zone in front of the torso? I'm still learning and will be a third year player next year. Every ball fed so far is put into my strike zone.
R u from spain
I Love youre videos 🤣
This hip drill is fantastic, I will use with my kids. I am also guilty of adjusting with my arms, not my feet
wow, it is very useful to me. i just have the problem of footwork, i always stop eaily when i move.
and, sometimes i also think it's the problem of my forehand.
Singapore?
finaly i find my problem in forhand - i just lazy :) thank u
You pay The Price with The foot work. ...You are right
This has to be best drill for a groundstroke ever
Maybe you've forgotten to mention about the length of the racket. The strike zone should be just a racket length away from your hand.,which makes it a totally different spot.
7:09 best footwork
The problem with me is I am having hard time reading the bounce of the ball causing me to miss judge the length of the ball. Too close or too far is reading the line of the ball and that’s not that hard.
"i will not use the word lazy... oops i just used it" lol
how do you not over hit your strokes i am struggling with that
G Troopa what do u mean by overhit? extending too far after hitting the ball?
no i hit them too far and when i try to control them i hit the net or screw up the spin stroke
Don't hit under the ball too much.Flip the ball over the net instead of a linear stroke.
psicology of the brain very good
The answer is easy. Get in shape.
Adjust with your feet!!!
“I don’t wanna use the word “lazy”” 😂😂😂
I always want to conserve my finite energy 🤣😂🤣😂
Their "lazy" shots were awesome anyway.
"The legs suffer so that the arm may move more comfortably."
Exactly! ;) This video says the same in a different way: czcams.com/video/o-PiQX1P0QY/video.html
Look like you live in Viet Nam
Came here from a bigfoot channel...
🤣 same
FOR THINKER THUNKER!
Anybody else like low balls
I always pay the price but I don't always have my Money back...
