You got a couple of things incorrect.
The pincer movement is not new to Avdiivka, it has been employed multiple times in this war, and is a well known tactic. Oh and the drama you delivered that faux with.
Avdiivka will only become a rail hub should the front move significantly inland. Right now anything big going in there will be missile fodder.
The NATO interpretation is a foil. It is a defense alliance that was considered by many moot before the Ukraine attack. At one time it would even have been possible for the Russian Federation to join it. The only states who could fear that defense alliance are those who have plans to be aggressive in a manner that would trigger its charter actions.
Russia was integrated into the international monetary system, and its trucks, ships, and planes were free to move about the world. There was no aggression against Russia. Had they not taken Crimea and part of Georgia, there would be no thought of defense against Russia even.
Had Russia wanted to influence Ukraine, all they had to do was to create friendship pacts. They could have invited students to study in Russia. They could have extended grant opportunities to Ukrainians. They could have created joint programs in Aerospace and some other fields. In brief they could have made clear they were a friendly big brother. That they did not think of this should tell you something is amiss.
Dr. Sachs a better perspective for understanding the Ukraine War is found in Paulo Freires book "Pedagogy of the Oppressed". The Russian leadership is playing out the culture that they came of age in. They are not aware of the opportunities that the modern world offers, nor the benefits of concentrating on trade and development. Instead they are thinking in terms of territory and zero sum economics.
If you read this, I hope you will take a moment to address these points.
I agree that the current US administration has missed opportunities to negotiate, and the US has made missteps, and even taken actions they should not have. Getting back to thesis of "Pedagogy of the Oppressed", I wonder what the world will look like when modern medicine has people living to 120. I think of Max Plank's comment that physics progresses one funeral at a time. I wonder if the same can be said of state relations.

LOL they literally tried to take Kiev in the beginning but failed. They also had to withdraw to the other side of the Dniepr when they couldn't push futher. It would have been different if they only annexed the eastern territories of Ukraine from the start like they did with select Georgia territories but it's not the case.

Absolutely true because Putin has persistently reiterated that Ukrainians are fellow Slavs and Kiev is the birthplace of Russia. Why is over a third of the country Russian? But now after all the attacks on Russian civilians and this latest terrorist attack on innocent kids Putin is throwing off the gloves. The Russians are furious and want revenge. But it's Putin once again holding back the onslaught. But Russia will not trust anyone now and will seek an ultimate victory whereas before he was always willing to compromise. You mean negotiations for the Russian annexation of a massive part of a sovereign nation. People who talk about peace in current conflicts ALWAYS mean letting the bad guys get away with what they started. Only making the bad guy back right up and providing deterrence level punishment is the only response - in the playground and in geopolitics. Ask a Ukrainian if they'd prefer their borders completely intact but their cities flattened or their country 25% smaller but having something that needs re-building.
