I live in Oregon woods and I had to learn quick in snow. Honestly, after a couple heavy winters, I'm way more in tune with how the car behaves in general now. Focus, practice and it's actually kinda fun instead of dreadful.

helps if you can downshift, most cars with automatic trans only have L to downshift too, which you could potentially use if your going 35-40 or slower to slow down quick versus slamming on brakes. older cars you can stay in D3 or non over drive to help slow down quicker at the engine
