RockShox Zeb - my first impressions and review

- The Lyriks on my Orange Alpine were getting very tired, not surprising really as they are five years old. However, the time had come to buy some new forks and after chatting to various people, it was the RockShox Zeb Ultimates that appealed the most (especially given the discounts available at many places).
So, with them fitted and set to the RockShox recommended settings, I headed off to a local trail to try them out and set them up.
Was I impressed with them? - Sport
Great trail riding Jason, those lines look so nice and cool. I ride the Zeb on both of my bikes and I'm very happy with them. Looks like you had a lot of fun with the new fork in the woods. Keep having fun and have a great Monday mate🤙
Thanks mate, only one trail on this hill but damn is it a fantastic one.
Seriously impressed with the Zebs, even though they weren’t set up correctly 👍
I did wonder about Swindon, knew it was reffering to cheeky but now I know why. Love that trail, thst good we did it a few times when we went.
Elsa was looking very flexible 🤣
All I've heard is great things about those forks, and I think actually look better on your bike. Great video of your first thoughts, Dyfi will be a perfect place to bottom them out 👀
Your actual words were ‘I just thought you were being random like usual when you were on about Swindon’ 😂
Ace trail, ace forks. Dyfi will be ace too, of course 👍
@@Stopadoodledoo well you are quite random with the phrases after all 🤣
Good point on the forks between fox n Rocshok. Bikes nice and quiet as well 👍
Even if it wasn’t, you wouldn’t hear it over my prattling on 😂
Ace video mate, the forks look beasty, overkill for Swindon 🤣👍🏻
Thanks mate. Forks are ace, not as hefty as I thought they would be either although not best suited for behind the Nationwide 😂
Entertaining as per usual Jason! I going to ask you the most boring question😮.. did you feel any weight penalty?
Thanks mate. To be honest, they’re not that much heavier than the Lyriks and when riding, didn’t notice the additional weight at all.
What I really like about the zebs is they just look the part. Especially on the Alpine 6. They have the right level of mean looking chunky that anyone can see they mean business and Rockshox seem to get the decals just right. It does help that they function pretty well as a fork too....
Now I want to go riding in my own Swindon that isn't even in the UK.
Yeah, they look purposeful and luckily function as well as they look.
If it’s a cheeky trail then it’s Swindon, regardless of what country it’s in 😂
Aren't the zebs a 38 and the lyrik a 36? Probably why they feel more supportive. Great vid that , those trails look epic...which can never be said of Swindon!
They are mate and the stiffness and directness due to the thicker stanchions is noticeable, but I was referring to how supportive they feel through their travel. That may be due to me not comparing like for like as the Lyriks were way past their best, but they also feel better than the Lyriks on the P7.
It’s an incredible trail for sure, the craftsmanship that’s gone into the building of it would put a lot of trail centres to shame.
Never ridden the Zebbs, but I'd love to give them a go. I've hear that it's much easier to find a usable set up than with Fox forks. Enjoy!
I hadn’t either but a few mates have been using them for a while and had nothing but good things to say so I took a punt, and am fully in agreement with them 👍
Must be good forks Jason you didn't come off lol😊brilliant as usual
Oh but I did, on the steep rooty thing. The footage of the crash was disappointing though, as it didn’t capture the sheer stupidity of the event 😂
Definitely a big upgrade (though i am only going on price 😂). Lovely piece if kit and ckeqrly not causing you any issues on those sketchy looking trails. 🤔
A necessary upgrade unfortunately, but one that I am not disappointed with at all. As for the track, Swindon has many sketchy trails 😂
I ride a ZEB on my Dmr Sled ... great fork ive always favoured Marzocchi but i do like the ZEBs. Great vid mate
Thanks mate. Got to admit, I've been a fan of RockShox for a while (but not always - they went a bit rubbish in the early 2000's).
Awesomeness bro . Nice forks bro. Poor owd Swindon pmsl. Belting trails n ridin bro. Look forward to Spain vid
I do wonder whether a stream of confused and disappointed mountain bikers turn up at the Nationwide at Swindon expecting to find hundreds of amazing trails, only to find some scruffy flat paths around a park 😂
@@Stopadoodledoo mint lol init
"Swindon" looks awesome lol. did you go for newer charger 3 forks with lurpak?
All the Swindon’s are awesome mate, apart from Swindon itself 😂
Yep, Charger 3’s with buttercups. Anyone not aware of RockShox will think we’re talking nonsense now 😂
@@Stopadoodledoo us talk nonsense? never!😀
@@DownhillDesireMTB there’s many who would point out that I talk nothing but nonsense 😂
If it feels good, then they are good.
Wise words mate 👍
May I ask, what saddle do you use on the bike ? Thanks
It’s a WTB Silverado, one of the most comfortable I have used 👍
Firstly, Elsa is an Only Fans reject, hence she's alone.
Moving on, I also found that the recommended pressure on my Zeb ultimate 2023 was a little to high. It was very simple to find my prefered settings, other than letting a little pressure out, (twice). It's with the drops and g-outs I realised how capable they are. So controlled.
Poor Elsa, from ice queen to hobo living in some woods near ‘Swindon’ in such a short time.
Pressure setting recommendations do seem to be a bit much; wondering if there’s tokens in them too (not checked yet) as my Lyriks came with a couple in; performance (for what I like) improved when I removed one of them.
Even with a bit too much pressure in, etc., I am seriously impressed with the Zebs 👍
@@Stopadoodledoo ,
Elsa will be fine with her cats.... Apparently, they come fitted with only one volume reducer installed.
schhhhhmeeeeeagle the eagle like zebadee dingle dongle
You know it Geoffrey, they bounce up and down and up and down.
I rode that trail in Swindon a few weeks ago,not a bad cafe to far away either 😉 unfortunately it was the day after the last big storm so there were trees down everywhere! Think I know where I’m going this week now 👍
There's one bit of the trail that has been re-routed, I reckon it's an improvement over the original line.
They are doing quite a bit of forestry work at 'Swindon', I have a horrible feeling that this beauty of a trail may have a limited lifespan 😢
