That bale handler is really not designed to handle bales like that, so I would say you have done really well not to damage many. I would have a slight preference for the loader joystick on the Massey over the New Holland, and the armrest overall is slightly more comfortable, but that's purely subjective.

  • @jakeluff8067

Good video old chap. With those bale grabs, try going in to the stack at an angle and work from one end of stack. So you don't have to push down through bales. The same as you would with the safe hand grabs your see. And also go in at an angle on your trailer, from the back heading forward to headboard. I learnt the hard way, like yourself. Bloody good job.

The way I used to pick up wrapped bales from a stack with a squeeze was to go in with it tilted up at around 45 and tilt it down inbetween the bales, squeeze, tilt up, back out, similar to what your doing but with tilt, that way the squeeze locates between the bales easier meaning you can go in quicker and you can give it a little nudge if its tight in. Skills developed from when I was an impatient youth and the only way to do anything was flat out!

It's a shame Ian you didn't get to do any field work with the massey to show what it can really do, I think you would have liked it more than you have and would have gave you a chance to really get to know it .Never noticed you using the gear change on the forward reverser which is real nice or the forward and back on the other two levers both good features. The pillar in the way for hedge cutting I think the drop nose bonnet easy makes up for that with the good vision it gives .

I am biased being a Ford,Fiat,Newholland man through an through been around them since a wee boy and i swear i must be lucky because none my dad ever drove or any i have ever has gave much problems. My old boy was always religious about servicing and treated any tractors etc he drove as his own so maybe that was why. New Massey is interesting i like the second joystick, nice to have side windows that can open also. No experience of Dynamic command gearbox but from every report you have said and others they are ultra smooth.

Hi Ian, Do not like the lag in control of the forks, I've used lots of different hydraulic machines in my time with people getting very close to the business end, would not be comfortable with anybody near it. That's a fault that needs fixing and maybe it's an easy fix.
As for the load on the trailer being out of balance, you should by axle weight load for that and not just to get the load against the headboard.
When driving the ERF flat bed I had to chain and chog the load to stop it moving forward under sudden braking. The chogs were also chained down and timbers cut to fit off the headboard. Journey length should not come into it as something can happen at the first corner, or the last one. Can the bales be made to a size that fits the trailer.
    Take care and stay safe.

That guy from New Holland was pretty smart to get you that T5 as fast as he could, But that that 5s is (slightly) bigger than the t5, on screen it doesn't look like that, probably the bonnet.
Also on the comfort part, as a Dutch guy growing up with wagons with dolly's instead of your style trailer, in my opinion those are more comfortable as they don't put the weight on the back of the tractor. And another plus is that it handles tight corners better cuz there are 2 turning points in stead of one. BUT backing up with those dolly/wagons is a skill (which i love ☺ and i'll dm you on insta with me showing off 🤣)

Hi Ian. I definitely do not like the over-run from the control lever to the loading ram. This has negative safety implications, and, I see it as a fundamental design error but, I have to say, I'm extremely surprised. I'm quite sure, that a brand leader like MF, employ top notch design engineers and hydraulic engineers, so, why have they made this basic mistake. An operator shouldn't have to guess in advance, when to press the OFF button. Once pressed, it should mean just that, OFF, end of travel. Porting the hydraulics through a 3/5 (3 position, 5 port valve), would ensure total control. It's basic stuff as far as i am concerned so, perhaps I am missing something here?

The loader shouldn't react like that unless it's because you have soft ride on? If you had a man cage on!

Front suspension switched on with the loader could be the comfort problem. They can push against each other and over-exaggerate the bumps in the road due to the weight of the loader and heavy silage bales pushing the machine forward/down onto the front suspension rams, so it may of been comfier with the front suspension switched off and just let the loader and cab suspension absorb the shock of the potholes.

I'm thinking their loaner/trial 5S is actually a lemon box. Wouldn't surprise me if the loader latency has to do with the loader float and front suspension.

The loader delay is definetly Chandlers should take a look at. That shouldnt be happening.

Reading and learning about it, this is actually a feature allowing the pressure to feather off instead of abruptly ending. Thinking about it I might actually enjoy that feature when getting used to it.

Hi, Why don't you leave a little more gap when you are stacking the bales especially if they need to be moved again before use. That's why I'd prefer to bring home the all the bales before wrapping in the yard i.e. less handling the better.
