I live in Russia, and the AWD OMODA C5(that’s how it’s called here) is being sold since the start of last year, I really liked the design and features, but the price was too high throughout the year(about 32-33k usd for a one step down from top spec awd), but this January they made some nice discounts on 2023 cars, so I managed to buy one for about 27k usd. So, I’ve been driving it for four months now, and I really like it. It’s much more snappy than my old car(Honda CR-V 2015 2.0) and has much softer suspension, less road noise and headlights are just brilliant. I’ve bought the car in January, so I’ve been able to try it out in the harsh winter of 2024 with record breaking amounts of snow and -25C temperatures, and the car handled it pretty well, all wheel drive works as advertised, managing to get out of deep soft snow, especially in off road mode(manufacturer claims that it provides 50% of power to the rear in that mode, not sure about that tbh) and it easily started the engine in those temperatures. The driving assists have been updated here in the summer of 2023, so they’re alright, and they stay turned off after restarting the car if you don’t want them. The maintenance costs seem to be less than with Honda, but that’s probably because of the whole sanctions situation. Overall, so far I’m really enjoying the car and don’t regret selling the 2015 CR-V.

Having owned American, Australian and Japanese vehicles for years I test drove both Havel and the Omoda 5 and was amazed at the quality of the vehicles.and the world of options. So much so I sold the wife's Outlander for a Omoda 5 1 month ago and just love it. I truly believe Chinese vehicles are the next big thing and an incredibly affordable over Japenese and Korean cars that have left families in certain sectors out of reach of affordable cars with top level safety.

I'm so interested to see where we're going with vehicle design and manufacturing. Lost any hope we'll ever have our own car manufacturer here in Australia, we let go of that far too easily and we can't argue about where our vehicles come from at this stage. The evolution of cars, SUVs & utes is the most important responsibility we have now as consumers. Our roads and conditions are different from other countries, in a big way. One thing, I'm fed up with cars not being standard AWD, there's no excuse these days in any vehicle in Aus for it to not be standard just as part of safe driving. Once you drive AWD, you understand how much safer it makes the car, how it makes the ridiculously different road surfaces we dive in one day so much easier & less wearing on you and your car. It truly needs to be thought of like all the other safety equipment that's become necessary, like driver alerts and all the bells and whistles. Good AWD can save your life, notice I said good.
The other thing that I'm completely over these days and my last 3 beautiful cars have had is Piano Black.........yes it looks very sexy all shiny and gleaming, but when do any of us have time to shine the dang stuff??????????? WHEN???? & Why even if they've cut it down on many places, like doors and windows (cause we are all going to be using our grubby little fingers for those), why is the centre console and around the touch screens (c'mon nearly every car now has touch screens) & what is the point of putting it anywhere in the same postcode as cupholders for pitys sake. Also let's be truthful, hands up if all the dust and crap that shows up in every one of those areas with piano black drives you completely loopy & makes you want to bust out the mini vac & polish cloth. Another great thing would be if the reflections off all the surfaces of your dashboard and consoles made the information easier to see, so you don't have to do that shady thing with one hand while you're trying to reverse.......(the gift of the reversing camera surrounded in piano black as well, who knew!!) It would also be nice to see all your dials, readouts, buttons and the whole kit and caboodle in daylight sun without having to peer through the glare coming straight in the windscreen & blinding you because of the dust, fingerprints and crap on your lovely piano black whatevers. Ok, perhaps I have a small problem with it truthfully.
And seats, I know we're all different when it comes to seats, but please explain how with all of the options for seating these days you still get a numb bum & a sore lower back & neck after driving long distance even in a car you'd rather live in than your house. What happens to a perfectly wonderful, beautiful hand chosen car that you've paid your bucks for after spending months researching, visiting dealers and learning more about weight distribution of the human body on the shape of car seats (& really I don't want to know as much as I do about car seat materials and bolstering) & finally you pick THAT car....... you know THE perfect one, you're in love, you're happy, you're yelling at friends and family to get their fingers of the piano black (you're still carrying a polish cloth in the glovebox to whip out and make it gleam again) so there you are & you simply couldn't be happier with your choice. Then you do the long trip, yes the one that this car was going to make a dream to do & bang.......3-4hrs into the trip, the honeymoon is over and you're suffering numb bum or dodgy back.... please explain!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ I only have a couple of niggles & Piano Black is one 🙄😏😁

Paul, I have seen you complaining about the safety systems in Chinese vehicles, the problem isn't the system but has got much to do with the strict Chinese road regulations plus the mapping of the system according to Chinese standards. Manufacturers sometimes ignore mapping these standards to local ones and then they annoy a lot.

It's got a lot of inclusions for the price. It's also decently rapid. ... BUT... I suspect that - under the skin - it is not particularly robust. The videos circulating of an Omoda in Malaysia that lost its rear axle don't do its reputation a lot of good. The used car market for the 2WD Omoda is pretty awful, and I suspect that owners will feel very burnt if they go to trade it in after 3-4 years. (For example, after just two years, an Omoda has typically depreciated by half of the original purchase price).
Paying a bit more for a Mazda, Toyota or Nissan can pay off in the longer term!

You are very right about the lane keeping, lane tracing and lane centring of Chery. I actually watched this video to see your review of that part. Those are the weaknesses of the suv. In fact I believe ancap safety employees are compromised. I don’t know how they gave it five star rating with those issues. That vehicle shouldn’t be on the road with those issues in my opinion. I bought one of the suv immediately it was released and have never enjoyed it till now because of these issues. Have discussed with chery many times but nothing has been done so far. Looks ok design wise. Wouldnt call it a GT though lol they slap a GT badge on anything these days, same as "sporty" and the extremely overused word "aggressive".

From experinxe, I would not trust anything Chery. I bought a brand new car paying full price on my to find countless issies with it. This is in addition that the car was in recall. Had I know.n this I would have bout a second hand car of different model as it would be much better than a brand new Chery

The real question for the Chinese brands is how long does the car actually last. The feedback I’ve seen is that it’s not very long at all - so it could be as great a value as anything on the market but if it falls apart in two years that’s not good value at all

Don’t buy. In Malaysia its whole rear axle came off! You can Google it. And Chery threatened to sue that lady, who is just driving at slow speed around a bend. And few reported brake related issues.
Chery spent a lot of money on influencer to try to change public opinion instead of admitting fault, but the issue did not die down.
Finally when the regulators step in, it was found that the rear axle only had 2 points soldered.
And finally had to recall 600 vehicles.’definitely not a car brand you can trust.

Japanese cars are and always will have the best engines and reliability! German cars have great styling but not the reliability of Japanese! Chinese cars are cheap and like anything that comes out of china thats cheap doesn't last so they have to prove themselves.
Remember you only get what you pay for.
I have shares in polestar and nio which are built in china and drive a lexus. A 15 year old lexus that has never broken down or had any mechanical part fitted apart from service parts. Will we be talking about Chinese cars in 15 years who knows time will tell.
