I'm surprised to see this video for a specific reason. I am a vet with PTSD. I got a cheap Yamaha acoustic and while I can't play it I spend time with it every day and sometimes can get what to me is a nice rhythm going. I DO find it very calming. I do wish I knew how to play it, don't know a single tune, but it is very important to me. I don't know guitars4vets but I absolutely support the idea of music therapy, never heard of it before.
www.guitars4vets.org Steve- there are Lots of CZcams videos teaching people how to play. Any style any level. Learning rhythm is awesome. You can even pull up a drum beat to play along to on CZcams. Any beats per minute. Anything you want.
If there aren't any classes near you, I highly recommend checking out Justinguitar.com for some terrific free online lessons. I refer people there when they ask me to teach them lessons. And thanks for your service.
I’m not a vet, but I’m 67 and I have a lot of friends who are. I’ve sat with them and seen the calming effects a sweet guitar tone can have. If you search on here for “open tunings”, you can learn to tune your guitar to a chord. It’s the same as tuning to standard A_440, but when you strum the ‘open strings’ you get the chord tone you are tuned to! There are many videos also on the 1, 4, 5 positions, or ‘country chords’ of a song. The 1 is all of the strings open, no fingering. The 4 is all of the strings on the 5th fret with your finger laying across the fretboard. The 5 is all of the strings on the 7th fret laying your finger across the fretboard. No complicated fingering, easy to learn very quickly, and very rewarding! I hope this helps, even if just a little! Thank you for your service my friend.!!! Gary
Hey just wanted to say Thank you! First Second guitar is what you make of it if you enjoy just keep playing it you'll get there if that's where you're wanting to go!
Phil thank you for your continued support of Guitars for Vets. For those who are unaware Phil and his followers helped us raise over $12,000 for G4V at an event I hosted last December!
I've had my Echo Live for about 2 months now and I can't put it down. Great customer service. Stunning look . Easy playability and a great unplugged tone. Run this through a decent acoustic amp and I guarantee that the audience can't tell the difference between the Echo and my $2200 Gibson. Just wish the Echo came in a cutaway version. Great job Orangewood. Great job Phil!
So I purchased an Orangewood Oliver which is the mahogany acoustic about a month ago. The fit and finish and set up was superb. I opened the box, took it out of the included gig bag and tuned it. Thing is amaze-balls. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! Oh, it was $195 and I used a 10% off code from a CZcams channel and it knocked it down to $175. Absolutely worth the money. Don’t be in the fence. Just order one and you will love it. If you don’t they take returns. Great company and really awesome that they can put out such a great product at an affordable price. Hats off to Orangewood.
Thanks Philip for serving, and what you are doing for veterans. The Fort Worth Texas Outpatient Clinic has a great Guitars for Veterans program. I have plenty of guitars and I'm sure it will go to a deserving military member. The guitar sounds great, even through my cheap cell phone speaker.
I am impressed with your ability for honest appraisal while not being trite or snobbish or overly critical of product limitations. I own a Brooklyn model and an Oliver (all mahogany) - no electronics. For me, the all mahogany guitar plays great, but sounds a (little) boxy with clear fundamental tones (not a lot of overtones), but pretty good for a $200 guitar, especially when shipping and the bag comes with it. The Brooklyn plays even better and sounds MUCH better when strummed with a pick or played LOUD with fingernails - pretty open with good harmonics. When finger picked, however, it loses a little top end response and is a (little) muffled. Maybe this will get better as it ages (solid top). For $300, still pretty good. I noticed you didn't fingerpick this one or mention the fingerpicked sound. It IS harder to find acoustic guitars that sound great strummed AND fingerpicked. In my opinion, both my Orangewoods ARE well worth the money spent. Thanks for your honest opinion on this one.
Orangewood is making the full-court press of guitar CZcams this month. Almost as noticeable as the Danelectro guitars after NAMM 2018 or that time when Danelectro sent everyone those pedals at the same time.
What I like about your demo, is it seems real. From what I can tell, it’s just a nice mic. No studio level production. I just ordered the Morgan Mahogany live a couple days ago, and I’m pretty excited to try a small company like this.
I just received the Oliver mahogany last Monday the 11th. It was shipped on the fifth and was coming from California to Florida. It had arrived just as I expected it would. The truss rod needed adjusting, and it was out of tune. After a few simple adjustments, I have a beautiful guitar. Maybe you could do a video showing how to adjust the action on acoustic guitars
I just bought it on sale in April 2022 for $380. Now in May they are back up to $445. Mine was perfect out of the box minus needing tuned which I prefer.
I just bought a Mason a few days ago. So excited to get it. Mine is the same model, Mason Live , Sitka top with Fishman electronics. What you have to know: I am a 68 year old grandmother x6. I have never played guitar before. I am more excited to get this guitar and learn fingerstyle than getting my new car last year. Thanks Orangewood and Phillip for this video. Feels like the whole thing was a set up (of the best kind). Orangewood has an Awesome Sale right now, go check it out. It is really 2 sales in one . 🎼
I hope the setup for us “regular’ folks is the same as I have this guitar on the way except I got the terrified version….and is my second try for Orangewood. The Dana spruce mini which is a travel inexpensive guitar…had crazy fret sprout…
Hello Phil, love your channel and I’ve learned tons of stuff here so thank you for you hard work and support. Any comments on the new all solid wood line up from orangewood ? Will you review any of those anytime soon ? Would really like to know what you think of them. Greetings from Miami, Fl ! Rock on !!
Hey Phillip, I purchased my Mason Live in Sept. 2018 because they had a discount on it. I was very surprised how great it looked for $395. And like the one you unboxed I did not have to do a thing to it, the setup was right on, as was the intonation.
Have you ever considered just tuning your 25.5" acoustic down a half step and capoing the neck at the first fret? You would be pretty much in the same ballpark as a 24.75" scale length guitar plus it would have the lower string tension. It's just a thought . . .
I won hundred percent agree about the inlay on the headstock. I feel the same way. The rest of my echo is amazing looking but that crappy silk screen logo on the headstock is my one complaint LOL I really appreciate when a company takes the time to work on their headstock a little bit and make it look as good as the rest of the guitar. So perhaps Orangewood will see enough people commenting on that and start to do something about it. I know even they’re really cheap models some of them come with a holographic style logo which I would prefer over the one That’s on my guitar LOL it’s a small detail that shouldn’t matter but it does.
The more I watch these videos about OrangeWood Guitars, the more I find myself wanting one. I had planned on getting a Martin StreetMaster series acoustic ($1,500.00) but I am thinking twice right now since I just purchased a Martin D10-E, already have an Ibanez AC340L, and an old vintage Yamaha FG412L.. So I'm thinking about an OW guitar since the Morgan Live version is under $400.00.. I don't wanna go crazy like I did with my electric collection though..
I just bought a used Orangewood Rey mahogany guitar, and I must say it is a pretty decent instrument. Can it compare to my Martin? Of course not, but I definitely wouldn't be afraid to take it out of the house either... I have it tuned to DADGAD, and it seems happy there. Other than a couple of minor things, it is a good guitar and now having owned one I would not be afraid of buying another one!
@Follow the howl I believe the 60s are a little steep, but my T40 I feel was failry priced, and a nice foray into playing guitar again after 25 years of playing bass and drums
I just received the Mahogany Morgan live. I love the fit and finish and sound. Would the sound change if I put the pickguard on it. The strings are Ernie Ball medium light. They sound fine. Opinion on adding "Medium" strings.
I got the Echo. I had to fine tune a little, polish the frets, different strings and it was great. I am a hobby level guitarist so it is hard for me to put out 1500 bucks for a guitar to play in my living room. These guitars are great for guys like me.
I just asked where else one could order from, and they said they have newly started shipping to Hawaii (which is still the US), but that they are considering other places, also Europe. One way of getting hold of one is ordering it to your hotel or friend or family in the US if you plan on being there. Or family may receive and ship it further to you.
These are actually decent guitars, to me on the same level as seagull and saga acoustics. Great one to use if you're hosting an open mic or something and its gonna get passed around and bumped etc. The mahogany ones sound best IMO
I've heard good things about Seagull Guitars (my buddy owns one) that are around the same price point. They're owned by Godin and Guitar Center usually stocks them, so you can go and actually try one out. But while I have heard good things about Orangewood, I don't personally know anyone that has ever held one. Only youtubers.
I am looking for a grand auditorium guitar acoustic and Seagulls are around 750 to 850. I dont like the stretched out look on Seagull guitars. It is just a overall thing. The one Phil is showing is good for what I am looking for. Glad he did the review! However while writing this I just found a Guild OM-240CE that kinda looks like a Grand but is a Orchestra guitar. It looks great too!
Seagull, lovegood, Yamaha, all great. Have you actually played a Yamaha in the 4-5 hundred dollar range? Really good bang for buck. Their entry level all solid wood guitars also way out preform their price bracket.
Hey Phillip if you can do a video on Alvarez I've got one and I fell in love with it I can't put it down check them out kind of curious about your thoughts
$495 whew I like your numbers better. I guess by this video was made almost bc a year ago. Steve V I am very a retired vet and have been wanting a new guitar center also. Be so like the be sound of the Mason model.
Phil, I have a problem with a Chinese Hagstrom Viking guitar. The neck is slightly bowed down in the middle so I tried to tighten the truss rod. It turned about 1/2 turn then bottomed our, not enough to get the bow out. I was hoping you could give me an idea on how to proceed. I THOUGHT perhaps I could loosen or remove the truss rod and place in a shin or a washer in there. Thanks. I’d like to email you so you could respond directly but I can’t find your address. Gavin. PS I’m a subscriber to your channel and website.
My concern is that they sent you one that they took special care in the setup. Then I buy one and the bridge has to be shaved down to make it playable over the entire neck,. Every acoustic guitar I've bought from 400 to 1,000 dollars has demo videos where someone is playing the shit out of it, then when mine comes it can't be played beyond the 5th fret because of the high action.
Claudebonegt Their entire deal is they are each set up by hand in CA by a tech before shipping out. So I get the concern that they SET IT UP for Phil, but their claim is they set it up proper for everyone.
Great review. I have this guitar and love it, though i am primarily a bass player. One thing that I particularly like about Orangewood is that the customer service experience is flawless. Great communication, fast and accurate shipping and tracking information. Great follow up after you receive the guitar. I wish they would do a video about how to put the pick-guard on and line it up properly, because some of us don't know how to do that. I found an old StewMac video and did the best I could. But, these folks really do make you feel like you are important to them. Might be an illusion, but it's a nice illusion.
Sounds amazing. And I am not a fan of the strings they use. Since phosphor bronze strings would sound so awesome on it. I just ordered one of these. And a Martin D18. Grrrrrr.
I bought mine last week, thanks to your video on the 1st Orangewood guitar you checked out. In that first video you gave out a 20% discount code to use to purchase one. Well, I had been seeing them advertise on FB and jumped all over it. I purchased the Mason Live, and for $435 bucks this guitar is freakin awesome, the finish is fantastic, and sounds great!
I’m getting an acoustic guitar for my birthday on the 26th. I been playing electric for about 6 months. I’ve never played an acoustic. Any recommendations?
Can’t go wrong with a seagull original s6 or the entourage rustic s6 if your into the 300-400 range. If you’re willing to go up towards 800 the breedlove concert solo is an amazing acoustic. That’s from my experience. I bet these orangewood guitars would be great too but I have never played one.
I currently own a lower end breedlove and I absolutely love it. That being said the only reason I bought it was because it was slightly cheaper than the Seagull when I was at the store and I'm broke. I have played 3 seagulls including a dreadnought and they are absolutely amazing guitars for the money. I remember in high school one of my friends brought one to school and at the time I really didn't know much about guitars or quality since I was a beginner, but the second I picked up the seagull and strummed it I knew it was a great guitar. My next acoustic is 100% going to be a Seagull. I love my breedlove and would recommend the brand to anyone but Seagulls are fantastic.
Strap buttons on the side of the neck heel like your Orangewood suck. They interfere with the heel of the fingering hand. Guitar companies that put the strap button like Orangewood and most other bolt neck acoustic guitar demonstrates a lack of creativity.
I do on my acoustics. I like them and recently started putting them on my electrics. I prefer the polyweb as they are warmer in tone. I also love the feel of them. They are really slippery. Not everyone likes that though. But worth a try. It is honestly more important what you prefer.
i dont think its made in california. It only says that it was designed and probably set-up in california, if they built it there too im sure they wouldve included that piece of informationn]

Cannot unsee
I keep imagining jaffa cakes
I Have zero issue with the sound but that headstock and logo... just terrible TERRIBLE The font yuuuk AM I crazy?
They did it! They followed your suggestion. Orangewood logo is new!
Love the sound. Now we need them to make lefty versions so I can have one.
Orangewood is making the full-court press of guitar CZcams this month. Almost as noticeable as the Danelectro guitars after NAMM 2018 or that time when Danelectro sent everyone those pedals at the same time.
Theyre trying to catch up after Faith guitars went out and hooked up almost every known teacher on youtube with guitars.

Don't need to say it came out of tune. Expecting a guitar to come in tune is unreasonable. It takes 2 seconds to tune a guitar.

I just ordered one of these. And a Martin D18. Grrrrrr.
Don't own one yet but I'm seriously loving these guitars.
Just bought my Orangewood an hour ago. Excited!
What's that dark green electric in the background
sounds awesome
I recently purchased an acoustic guitar. I wish I would of known of Orangewood prior. That sounds amazing !!
Really enjoy your videos !👍
What body style is it? Good vid. thanks
What is that light blue dual hum-bucking guitar?
Looks like a music man
Phil, why not use a pencil lead to lube the nut? Is it not recommended anymore?
It works great.
Sounds pretty good for that price point
I bought mine last week, thanks to your video on the 1st Orangewood guitar you checked out. In that first video you gave out a 20% discount code to use to purchase one. Well, I had been seeing them advertise on FB and jumped all over it. I purchased the Mason Live, and for $435 bucks this guitar is freakin awesome, the finish is fantastic, and sounds great!
Would you recommend the Mason Live or the Brooklyn Live
@@lylehutz which did you choose?
I'm leaning towards the Mason because of the cutout, but the Brooklyn looks absolutely gorgeous without it 👀
@@towleybandito11 Brooklyn limited. Beautiful guitar
What happened to today's amp video? And what happened to the comments about it? Why delete them?
What's the blue mic that your'e using there?
Thought you were going to break into "Wish You Were Here" at the beginning.
What song are you playing at 7:59???
Would anyone recommend the Brooklyn or Mason?
Wow! I like it!
Can save some $$$ and just use vaseline or sewing machine oil on a toothpick on the nut slots. Or the old-school trick of pencil lead.
This or a Yamaha APx. Need a good back up acoustic for gigs..
Lincoln Johnson Yamahas are a fantastic value
Are the older APX’s better?
3:08 i saw pow Farrow 😂😂
Seems like good deal for the money🙂Liked👍
What country is it made in ?
What model is that?
Nice instrument
9:49 Overalayed whaaaaaat? O venthole?
Strap buttons on the side of the neck heel like your Orangewood suck. They interfere with the heel of the fingering hand. Guitar companies that put the strap button like Orangewood and most other bolt neck acoustic guitar demonstrates a lack of creativity.
Orangewood! Please make a 12 string!!!
Echo 12 Live for about 495.00
....are we in guitar buying Renaissance or what....Harley Bentons, Orangewood etc.
Do you use Elixir strings?
I do on my acoustics. I like them and recently started putting them on my electrics. I prefer the polyweb as they are warmer in tone. I also love the feel of them. They are really slippery. Not everyone likes that though. But worth a try. It is honestly more important what you prefer.
400 bucks for a guitar made in California is surprisingly inexpensive. It sounds really nice.
i dont think its made in california. It only says that it was designed and probably set-up in california, if they built it there too im sure they wouldve included that piece of informationn]
@@davidyang1207 - Aha! That makes sense. Stupid me
Hey Phil, did they know it was you the were sending to? ;-)
