I hope that you enjoy our mesmerizing journey up and down the Hurricane Ridge road, and that the twists and turns revealing magnificent snow-covered forests and vistas momentarily take you to you a peaceful place during these trying times for our Nation and our world. Keep well and stay safe!- Randall
    Background story:
On March 14, 2020, David, a good friend of mine texted asking if I would be interested in joining him for a drive up to Hurricane Ridge to see the fresh snow and the peak snow depth of the 2020 the season, adding that this might be the last opportunity of the year. How accurate that turned out to be. My initial reaction was no, not really. I am not a fan of driving in snow and ice, especially on steep, winding mountain roads. In addition, the snow level had dropped down to near sea level so the entire trip would be on snow and ice. David calmed my concerns insisting that he had years of experience driving in snow, including through blizzards, and that his Toyota Tacoma 4x4 pickup could handle the journey. I texted David saying that I would get back to him. Then I asked Diane, my wife if she would like to join me. At first, she hesitated, then she said yes, providing that Barbara, David's wife agreed to go too. Diane texted Barbara asking if she was going. Barbara dislikes driving in snow even more than myself, so I was surprised when she said that she would come along if Diane was going. So, the four of us went on his magical, wonderland drive up to the top of Hurricane Ridge for a quick look-see and group photo, then back down the mountain. Along the way up the mountain, just before the entrance to the Olympic National Park, we drove past a State Patrol car with flashing lights at the location where a jeep had slipped off the road on a curve and was on its side at the bottom of a 50-foot embankment. This did not help in settling my nerves!

Were the tires chained for this drive?

doesnt seem that chain is required to carry all the time, but advised to use if necessary. I drove my 4 wheel drive sedan up in the winter couple times, never had issues.
