i have a pretty bad typical mouth breather facial structure. i talk to my mom about why she never told me to breath throught my nose and she laughed like it was no big deal mean while it ended up costing thousands of dollors for dental work and clearly ended up changing the way my face looks. makes me mad every time i think about it.

Really great to inform the public about the connection between mouth-breathing and jaw formation and teeth positioning! The best thing parents can do is to enrol in a Buteyko Breathing course--doing this course will enable the child (and family) to breathe properly for life.

It also has a severe negative impact on your social life as it is highly annoying.

Dr. K. Buteyko said this in the 1950's. Good to see the rest of the world catching up.

Mouth breathers frequently have a tongue thrust which he talks about in this video. The correct position for your tongue is actually on the top of your mouth so that your tongue doesn't block your air passage.

Been a mouth breather all my life (17 now). Got braces 1,5 years ago to reposition my teeth so a surgeon can cut my top jaw loose from my skull and reposition it. He will reconnect it to my skull by using metal plates.... I am worried because it always feels like my nose is kinda blocked off inside. When i try to breathe through my nose i always get exhausted.. im also annoyed by the sound of breathing through my nose.

That (mouth breathing) was a rejection for not getting hired in some places
    aside from looking strange.

I'm a mouth breather almost all the time because I have nose problems.
    (Excuse my spelling)
There is a hole in my septem and my turbanance has filled in that area. I had 2 turbanance coblations (shrinkage of the turbanance), which are only temporary. The 3rd one is always known to be permanent but it will make me whistle out of my nose when I breathe. So I won't have a 3rd turbanance coblation. I have been to lots of doctors and have tried lots of medications but nothing has worked. I also have sleep apnea but I don't think I stop breathing in my sleep. I wake up tired all the time too and I mouth breath both when I'm awake and when I'm asleep. Sometimes my sleep schedule is so off that I'm sleeping 12+ hours and I'm up all night. This is putting a lot of stress on my family and I.
Can someone please tell me what to do????
    (Preferably a doctor?)

Naso-respiratory obstruction with mouth breathing during critical growth periods in children has a higher tendency for clockwise rotation of the growing mandible, with a disproportionate increase in anterior lower vertical face height and decreased posterior facial height.
Mouth breathing isn't a death sentence for facial attractiveness; it merely modifies the outcome appearance of the lower jaw. I liked the analogy the doctor used in the video though: the end appearance of humans isn't absolute and despite being genetic can be altered by environmental influences.
Humans, much like cats, aren't actually meant to breathe through the mouth. It's much more beneficial to breathe through nostrils. If you look at cats, the only time they breathe through their mouths is when they're under extreme stress.. which is similar to humans, when they play sports for example, their bodies go under physical stress and their muscles need a bigger supply of oxygen in a shorter amount of time. This is the only time we're supposed to breathe through our mouths.
When breathing through the nose, the oxygen is filtered through the nasal passage and is more humid going down into the lungs, whereas in mouth breathing it goes in unfiltered. It's harder for extra oxygen to escape back through a nasal exhale than a mouth exhale, it creates a backward pressure giving your lungs more time to saturate in oxygen, it also prevents excess Co2 loss. It also literally strengthens the lungs, diaphragm etc, making you more efficient ( you breathe less volume of air, yet you have more energy).

michael: learn to breathe thru your nose. Blow it out fully. Use a mirror for feedback to train yourself
