- Fallout 76 - Perks And Leveling Explained
The leveling and perk system can be a bit confusing when you are new to the game. Let's go through how everything works to make your time in Appalachia a little more pleasant.

Stuff for those of us returning after a long hiatus, too.
Looooong hiatus lol
This game actually pretty fun now
At last a guide that makes sense, i was losing my mind with this shit, thanks man.
Thank you so much for telling me about the filter mechanic, it's so confusing not having a Fallout game hold your hand for the first 10 minutes and give you the rundown of the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system. I didn't understand how to level up different attributes since you can usually move them up and down at the start like in New Vegas.
This helped a lot. I’m level 51 and was really not understanding what the heck I was doing. Thanks for the explanation.
Good explanation for new players. Great job. New players: this is an excellent guide to the Perk System.
I need that card punch, that used to be available right away in previous Fallouts.
Thanks for this overview. Super helpful as a new player.
I'm not sure if it's something that would warrant its own video, but I really like the way you explain things about this game and you seem very knowledgeable/passionate about it, so if you think it would be a good topic, I'd love to see a video about Fallout 1st.
Super helpful walkthru for us newbies! Thank you!
Thanks, this helps. Just started playing. And this system is so different from fallout 4 (the only other fallout game I played). Now it make a bit more sense. Love the video. Have a good day.
I’m not new but you are doing gods work helping out new people to our great game
Thanks . I played the hell out of fallout 4 and 76 perks are so different they way you utilize them.
very helpful, thanks!
Great video! Thank you for creating a simple to understand explanation. That being said, I do have a question I'm struggling to find an answer to. Should I be getting every perk card to max rank within every S.P.E.C.I.A.L? Is this even possible to do? As a new player I'm not sure what build I'll end up leaning towards, nor am I sure what perks I may, or may not be using at higher levels. I just want to be sure, if making a bad investment in ranking any given perk won't hinder my build at "so called" end game.
Thanks man really detailed. But still got some questions that need answering about 1 star perk cards if you have the time?
Wish I saw this earlier 😂 I thought it meant I had duplicate cards so scrapped them when I could of ranked up my cards 😅
What perks do you recommend using in the beginning?
Great vid
Thank you!
03:20 I see now where I went wrong lmao. Thanks 😅
Im currently level 30 and i was wondering if my perception was ranked up to 15 for example and i leveled up and put it into perception again it would stay 15, so once i get to level 50 would i have less points to allocate to all stats?
It wouldn't let you put any more into perception once it's 15. So nah, you won't lose any points. You'll just have to spend them on other stats.
i was wondering why i couldnt level up my special points anymore
It's because bethesdas fucking stupid.
What happens if you have certain perk cards maxed and after shuffling your stats, you wanted those particular cards to be only 1 or 2 levels instead of being maxed? Would you just have to keep leveling until you get more perk packs and pray that you get a level 1 card again?
You can just select the level 1 version of that perk when you level up. There may be perks that you have ranks 1, 2 and 3 that you swap in and out depending your build. Every time you level up, you get to choose a perk card even past level 50.
This has been confusing me and I haven't found anyone on the internet explaining it. Your Action Boy perk card can be reached up two more times to rank 3 but the animated Action Boy perk card you get it the perk pack says it can be ranked up an extra time, if you pause at 5:10 you can see the animated card can have 4 stars but the normal card can only have 3, I've noticed this everytime I get an animated card but it always disappears, someone please explain why that happens.
Ah, when levelling up I have been selecting strength simply to scroll through all my options left to right, then wondering why i have loads of strength points. The game doesn't make that clear but you did, thanks!
U can change ur points for free on the punch card machine at any train station
@@project4200 you gotta be level 25 tho
The game is terrible at explaining the game mechanics especially the Perk System and V.A.T.S.
@@craigb.4737 yeah I had to look up a video on how to even enter VATS
Yuh the game wasn’t very clear on how the perk cards work, when I first saw the cards like say “rifle man” I didn’t know u could stack that with expert or master rifle man, so when I reached level 80 I kinda got tired of the game cuz everything was just a bullet sponge and I’ve wasted so much ammo and would always use melee to grind for ammo while my lead extractor mines for lead, then I just got off and now I realize what I should’ve done and what I should do and hopefully get back into this game
How to you have like 56 point? I'm at lvl 62 and I only have 49? Did I do something wrong I'm new to the game
I have been playing for years and was wondering, since I never paid attention, at what level does the experience points needed to rank up level out. Is it level 50?
I'm not sure. It's way over 50 though. Might be 1k.
@@wiggle_plays oh wow, yes I see 1000 but before that I se it is 160 XP more than each previous level. Had no idea. Thanks.
Ok noob question, I have been playing and am Lv56, but I am trying to do a totallly different build, but I cannot see all the perk cards... Am I totally screwed until I get the cards I want? I've been doing a pistol no PA build, but now I have a lot of fusion cores and want to do a PA heavy weapon build.
If you have level ups from below level 50 that you haven't taken yet, you won't see all the perks until you do.
@@wiggle_plays Yeaaaaa I thought I read you get them all at 50 so I deleted some.... oops lol!
I’m not sure what I’m missing here but how do you have so many special points? I’ve been playing for a couple weeks now and I’m over level 50 but I only have 49 special points total to assign.
Legendary perks.
I had no idea I could put a point in something and get a perk card in a completely different category. Now I feel like I have to remake a whole character because no I have stupid cards I never wanted but thought I had to pick from that category
Once you hit level 50, you stop getting a point in specials but you still get to pick a perk. You'll be able to swap out perks you don't want for ones you do. No need to start over.
but wiggles oh wise one when will you teach us how to love and spread kindness to human kind?
You have to drink the Milk of Human Kindness!
I watched as a returning player to understand the legendary cards and the special cap. The cards say the cap is 15, so I thought they set them to that cap, but I found I could increase my SPECIAL past 10 without them. On top of that, if 15 is the cap, then what does that mean for all the legendary effects and buffs from food, ect. Does boosting strength above 15 actually increase melee damage still? Honestly, I loved this game at launch, dumping to stupid amount of hours into it back then, but coming back to it with all the changes, I very confused between what used to be correct and whats in the game now. So much so, I kind of wish I was playing it for the first time lol
Your SPECIALs can be boosted well past 15 but you can only allocate 15 points worth of perks per SPECIAL. Boosting strength above 15 does increase melee damage.
HOW MANY PERK POINTS DO I NEED TO EQUIP A NEW PERK CARD OR HOW DOES THAT WORK 🤔
Damn. I got robbed. I had 4 perk card levels sitting there when I crossed over to level 51. Didn’t use them so now I can’t get those 4 additional perk point levels. How do you level up perk points now?
Use a punch card machine to allocate the points.
Can I move points from a perk card and transfer it to another card?
Nope. Once is a perk card is ranked up, it can't be unranked.
@@wiggle_plays so if I’m level 50, and if I have a 1star adrenaline perk, there’s no way to upgrade it to 5stars?
You can do that past level 50. You get to keep picking perks every time you level past 50.
i am trying to level up my perk of lockpicking and hacking but says i am maxed out ?
Lockpicking and hacking are 3 separate 1 star cards that don't get ranked up. Lockpick, Expert Lockpick(level 19), Master Lockpick(level 40. Hacker, Expert Hacker(level 22), Master Hacker(38).
Just get to lv 50 and choose the master infiltrator
Played about a week now and waited till 50 to start picking cards ect, did I mess up??
You didn't mess up but there really no benefit in waiting since you have to take each level up before the next level cards unlock.
@@wiggle_plays gotcha thank you
Hello. I'm at level 305. I have 58 points and it is not increasing, why is this? Also, I was at 61 points and 3 points are gone!
Check the loadout machine. If you have missing points to assign, they will show up there.
Can I recover scrapped perk cards?
You can choose that card again with a future level up.
I started playing recently and with perks Im just trying the ones convenient to me and what works.
How did you get that many points 😦
man this video seemed equally confusing as the system itself xD
I leveled up 3 times and I never saw that screen what makes you special
You gotta go to level up screen. Open your pip boy and on the bottom of the screen should be a command button next to (level up)
@@calebmahoney2448 thanks!
10:03 you just say you only get 50 points how come you got more than 60 that's what we want you to explain not the obvious Park system
They might as well add the other specials behind fallout 1st with them going about perks this way. The dumb bastards really shouldnt be game developers anymore.
You know the games fucked up when you hear the words "this game doesn't let you do that"
this game has come so far i cannot lie last time i played was release and it was straight shit but now its pretty fun and not dumb
so after level 50 do you stop getting the option to choose new perk cards?
You still get to choose a perk, you just don't get to add a special point.
@@wiggle_plays oh okay thank you i was worried i was stuck with this build that changed midway through my game
