  • Caltech’s Michael Elowitz, an expert in the field of synthetic biology, discusses some of the well-studied and intriguing oscillations that produce order within cells.
Oscillations - such as the side-to-side swing of a pendulum - are best known from physical systems, but they are also prevalent in the natural world. Many processes within cells have rhythms, such as the wave-like oscillations of proteins that help cells divide or the circadian clocks that keep cellular activities running on time.
