    I love the Precisionist movement. The problem with it, except for this watch and maybe the Astronaut version, is that they put it in the heaviest, ugliest cases. Hey Chris. I owned a 3-hand precisionist that i purchased from Kohl's around 2012. Not one of my automatics had a sweep that was remotely close to being as smooth.as that one. I believe they were touting it as the most accurate watch in the world at that time.

  • @paparadzi734
    @paparadzi734 Před rokem +5

    Awesome movement, Bulova should release more watches using the 262 kHz technology. For now it is using the bigger CR2032 battery so it does drain more power than the usual quartz watch. The sweep I believe is 16 ticks per second, second only to the continuous sweeping of the spring drive.

    • @DavidRon
      @DavidRon Před rokem

      Yeah, slowed down, I'm positive you'd be able to see ticks on this movement whereas the spring drive does not tick at all. I don't think I'd be able to tell the difference side by side, but I don't think it's possible to be smoother than a spring slowly unwinding and having a magnetic break applied (spring drive).

They are all about 42mm, so I am glad to see Bulova making some 40mm watches with this movement. The other 262 kHz movements are the 8 hand Precisionist chronograph, Lunar Pilot chronograph and the Curv chronograph. Each of these four 262 kHz movements operate very differently. My twelve 262 kHz Bulovas do exhibit better accuracy than most 32 kHz quartz watches. My best is accurate to less than 10 spy with the worst being off about 4 spm.

I think Bulova going back to their vintage styling is a smart move and in keeping with their current direction. I'm guessing the surfboard, Devil Diver and Parking meter all did well for them. Glad to see this also has sapphire over the usual mineral glass (though I'd expect it at this price point). I’m hoping that someday they can become a fully independent brand once again. The 3 hander+date movement in this watch was used in the Accutron II Surveyor line that was introduced around 2014 I've had one since 2017, it's a wonderful movement but battery hungry (needs a new CR2016 about every 2 yrs). The Surveyor line was killed off around 2018 unfortunately.
    Bulova sells a bulkier version of the 3 hander in the Precisionist line, it's been around for years. There's only a few models on their web site but you can still find several discontinued models for sale easily.
    There was also a chronograph version of this movement that fit into the Surveyor 40mm case, it was MUCH smaller than the original Precisionist chrono movement. After the Accutron II line was killed off I never saw the chrono variant again.

    I would like to see Bulova have access to Cifizens Eco Druve technology, this aatch would be perfect with the Precisionist movement coupled with Eco Drive, sk it would be very accurate, have the lovely sweep 2nd hand and would not need replacement batteries. I have had a Citizen Eco Drive watch for over 25 years and it has not missed a beat, never been serviced. The combination of Eco Drivet and the Precisionist movement would be mouth wateringly good.

    • @dns711
      @dns711 Před rokem

      I have been suggesting this for a while. People who reply to my comment say the Precisionist requires too much power for an Ecodrive. I don't understand that. What battery has more power than the Sun?

    • @P_Ezi
      @P_Ezi Před rokem

      @@dns711The sun is not the limiting factor. A solar cell of a given physical size is only able to harvest a set amount of energy per day, even in full sunlight. The Eco-drive solar cells can therefore provide a given amount of continuous power.
      The mechanism in the precisionist movement does take more continuous power than other quartz movements. This is why they use a larger battery in these models.
      The question is whether or not the Eco-drive solar cells can provide enough power to keep up with the power used by this movement.

    • @dns711
      @dns711 Před rokem

      @pdaddy_ I wouldn't assume that Bulova attempted to test this. They are a poorly run company. Most of what they produce is hideous. The only watches Bulova produces which appeal to enthusiasts are re-issues from the 60's and 70's. I love my Devil Divers and the Jetstar I picked up today. I would have purchased the Parking Meter the day it went on sale if it had an automatic or Precisionis movement. The person who made the decision to put a traditional quartz movement in the watch should be fired.

    • @simply_psi
      @simply_psi Před rokem

      @pdaddy_ yeah but surely they could used a transducer to store the solar energy and have a back up battery, this could extend the back up battery life to over 5 years, which would put in the average modern quartz battery life span

    I saw this on the Bulova website, and have been waiting for a CZcams take on it. This is "different" enough as a maker (Bulova), and as a technology, to be very tempting. It has a combination of a classier look with high specs that is somehow missing from much of the Bulova catalog....Except, I didn't really fall for any of the colorways. I hope it sells well enough for them to extend it to something a little more in my taste...

    I'm going to take issue with the Precisionist being as smooth or smoother than a Spring Drive. The Precisionist ticks 16 times a second. That may be imperceptible to the naked eye, but it's there. The Spring Drive doesn't tick at all. I was intrigued by the Precisionist when I first heard about it; it's unique, and affordable even! But none of the designs appealed; they were all kind of garish, and way too big. Now I'm seriously tempted by this one (I'm partial to the red).

    Bulova can make such a grail watch using this movement as the foundation to build upon. I would totally spend upward of $2500USD for a Precisionist with even more accuracy (say within 10-30sec variation per year). Resistant to shock, magnetism, and good tolerance of wide range of temperature and humidity. Solar charging, even if just to extend battery life. Perpetual calendar or at least an annual calendar. Day date display. 10 bar water resistant min. 40-42mm range, not thick, high quality finish and material use. Give it a killer design obviously. Icing on the cake would be different functional models like diving with 300M water resistant, chronograph, GMT...etc.
    Bulova would truly set themselves apart from the rest of them with this precisionist movement.

    I recently received this Jet Star model as a gift. Ironically, when I received it I had just ordered the gold case version. Ordinarily I would sell, trade, or make a gift of one of the two, especially since nearly all of the watches I own are automatic or hand wind models. Still, there are exceptions for unusual quartz watches. And the Jet Star collection certainly qualifies on that score.
    So, , despite my preference for mechanical watches the smooth sweep of the Precisionist second hand eliminates what i find most objectionable about a quartz watch, the obvious one second jumps of the second hand . And the fact that its accuracy exceeds not only mechanical timepieces but ordinary quartz movements as well amounts to a significant plus.
    Why own two? Despite their shared features the two the watches project different vibes. The limited edition with a stainless case and silver dial has a sporty feel while the gold tone case and sunburst dial version is more appropriate for wear with a suit and for dress occasions. Bottom line. At this point it looks like I'll be keeping both versions.

      @@tancreddehauteville764no they won't. Fair price for an impressive movement and style. I picked up the limited €400 (£350) you won't get it cheaper than that.

    The sweep is reminiscent of the tuning fork Accutron watches. That is a good brand reference.
    Bulova once had the best technology in the Accutron. This reminds us of that fact. They have had this movement for years, but only now are marketing it in a way that plays to that strong history.

    The butterscotch one is 1972-74 styled. Yellow and mustard and brown (and orange) every thing.
    The limited is 1976 Bicentennial. America was awash with red, white and blue the whole year. Uncle Sam on watches, t-shirts, bumper stickers, mugs, etc. Flags flying in every yard.

    I understand how good this movement technically is, but for me it's not worth the extra over a vk movement. Also as long as a quartz movement hits the second markers I don't care about ticks per second, so for me my Oceanus is a better watch.

    Nice, but it would have been great had they released an automatic option with a 9 series Miyota movement or a Sellita SW200. It's just a three hander and the price is very steep for a quartz, even a fancy quartz like this one - at the $695 retail price I would not buy it.

    50m on an everyday sports watch? I was in, but that’s a deal breaker for me 😞

    How the Hell do Bulova expect me to wear this JetStar when I walk my dog at 99 metres below sea level??

    Blasphemy, "smoother than GS" we have eyes Chris and it's definitely not more smoother than Spring drive.
