  • In this 2 part video, I capture the best sunset I have ever seen. Complimented by a mountain view to die for... WOW!
PART 2 • Lake District National...
Lake District National Park. Landscape Photography over 5 Days. In this video, I show not 1 but 36 Images. My best video to date! Part 1 of a 2 part video series.
My very good friend Pete and I embarked on a landscape journey to the Lake District National Park last week. Thie intention was to photograph as many newly discovered (by us) areas and a few classic areas too. I mean, why not!
As you could imagine the weather was very hit and miss throughout the week. It was the end of January so we didn't expect anything different.
I'll offer a full breakdown of where we ventured to on my website. From there you can take a closer look at all the pictures I took too.
    WEBSITE: tinyurl.com/k7vgzv4
We were based just outside of Keswick which is on the northerly border of the Lake District. In fact, the amazing stately home was uniquely sat on a hill that had views north to Scotland, east to Cumbria and south to the Lakes. How's that for location, location, location. We stayed in an amazing cottage on the grounds of the stately home. I'll leave contact info on the site too.
In this video, You'll see me taking pictures on a freezing cold morning. The Jetty was an amazing find. We discovered a waterfall covered in bright green moss. It looked amazing! Bettering that we discovered a rock/cliff that offered some of the best views in the Lakes I have ever seen.
If this wasn't enough, on our way home the sky's just lit up. It' was like the mountain was on fire. One word... WOW!

Guess what guy's, muppetry strikes again on my behalf...
At the beginning of the video when I said I was at Derwent Water I wasn't. I was actually at a lake I have never heard of. It was Thirlmere Lake. DOH!
David Roby and Simon Turnbull both said I was a muppet :) OK so they didn't put it so politely but I got the message :)
I had to Google "Thirlmere Lake" as I've never heard of it before. I dropped the little man onto the map and went around the damn lake virtually. It was there like they said pffff
This is my apology, I have to admit muppetry lol. Thanks for pointing it out guys. I've honestly never heard of it before. When you drive aimlessly around it's sometimes difficult to know when you go from one lake to another. That's my excuse lol Thank you. There you go, I wasn't trying to keep the location secret, I'm just being stupid! AGAIN!

Gary Gough I met a chap on Walla Crag at the weekend, confused as to why his view didn’t look the same as the one Heaton was showing in his vlog. I told him Heaton wasn’t in Walla...he was on Shepherd’s Crag. You’re in good company :-)

    Gary Gary Gary.....
In the 14 or 15 months of watch CZcams photography videos only 1 has got me the way this has, that was by Paul Johnson - Isle of Skye, Goose bumps is all i can say....
The location , the scene, the drone footage ( to die for ) and all topped of with that sound track.
This is right up there, right up there, one you should be very proud of.

Gary, I agree, you have found a gem. I really love the photography. I particularly liked the images at the end with the two trees towards the foreground, just to the right of the centre of the frame. There was a nice colour contrast between the green and the colours on the hills in the distance. I also really liked the trees and rocks with moss and the long exposures on the edge of the water and the gentle meandering stream tumbling under a bridge with the lake and mountains in the distance. While we all know golden and blue hour are special, you’ve also proved to me something I have long believed, you can shoot at other times of the day and capture drama in the skies and on the ground, especially on partly overcast days. I am enjoying your weekly vlogs. I need to get to the Lake District on one of our future trip back to Blighty.

Cheers John, very kind as always. 👍 Aaa, you like the tree shot. I just think tree pictures look more inspiring with the eye and not the lens. I'm warming to it though :)

Wow, Gary - I've never seen a single vlog with so many GREAT images - every one fantastic! Your passion and enthusiasm really came through on this one and was truly inspiring. The drone shot at the beginning was awesome and really set the scene for what followed. Can't wait for Part 2....................many thanks.

I love your vlog but you have surpassed yourself with this one. Where other photography vloggers are moaning about not getting a shot, you nail every one. in this video. And I get the green tree thing, I was nodding along thinking "yeah, that's me too, glad the pros also struggle". Then you showed the picture. The use of the green branches to frame the bridge was superb, works perfectly. *bins camera, slinks off*

lol I normally struggle with the tree's if I'm honest. For me, it's like when I go out and attempt to shoot Architectures. I can see something that looks nice but translating that to the camera doesn't very often work for me. Thanks Heather 👍

That is a very productive trip! Some of the best images I have seen from you. Two photos stand out for me, your last shot (beautiful sky) and the bridge image which I think is powerful. I may not be the prettiest but it projects the harshness and desolation of a winter day. Cheers.

Well Gary, after watching your vlogs on the lakes and other areas you have giving me the kick up the backside I've needed for a while now, and I have vowed to visit the lakes as much as I can. I used to go to the lakes every weekend in my younger days sometimes straight after work (back-shift) and get there for sunrise next day, save me from getting up early. I've covered much you have done and much more besides, and I can understand how exciting it can be. So keep up the good work and look forward to more videos, I love watching the antics your mates get up to especially going up to Warnscale Bothy that was class.

Brilliant, it is excellent the way you detail the camera settings, very helpful to me, (and I guess many others).
The North Lakes is simply STUNNING! It does not surprise me the excitement and passion you share with us. I know those locations quite well.
    You are inspiring to watch.

Well done Gary. Very enjoyable vlog. It looked colder than a well-digger’s ass down by the lake and that stream. Drone work was special. I’d have to agree with you about wanting to keep going back to that area as there looked to be all sorts of promising comps available.

Wonderful images! I know Derwnet Water well and especially love Borrowdale at the end of the lake distant from Keswick. The photos of the "most photographed bridge in the lakes" are stunning. And that sunset - well worth the effusive enthusiasm!!!

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW. This has to be the best blog yet. The drone work is stunning, as are the images, to many to name but every shot just scores a 10 out of 10 for me. And your enthusiasm is catching. These big names that your starting to meet should feel honoured to be in your company. Great stuff mate.
