I was just looking at Rosebud Primary School photos with my wife last night. Damien Humphreys was standing in the same row as me and lived down the block in Rosebud from me on the Mornington Peninsula. An absolute tragedy to die the way he did and more of a tragedy the local council did not come up with some solution to preserve Otama. A fight between preserving the local ecology and Otama was fought for a long time instead of coming up with a solution where both could exist. Damien will never be forgotten.
WOW. I just realised it is nearly 36 years to the day the two of them were lost at sea.
There was a lot of politics involved. A lot of errors were made. Thankyou for watching and thankyou for sharing about you and Damien living near each other and attending the same school. A small world
To the person that said that she was a piece of scrap your wrong, this is history that a lot of good men served on and died on, we can not just scrap our history it’s who we are and have fought for and to the men that earned their gold dolphins on that was and will always be a proud moment.
Totally agree with you. Not only is she a piece of Australian History and Australian Cold War History, she was also a home, a home to a family. Like any mother, she tried to protect her children
That was a perfect flight, brother. Very cool piece of history, eh? Awesome!
Thankyou appreciated
Super interesting subject to drone. Well done.
Thankyou. Pity her days are now numbered
Well done mate perfect mood and music to match , a bit like flying over a cemetery
Thankyou took ages to find the music that I thought suited the feeling I was trying to convey
Keep up the good work just subscribe to your channel. That’s what it’s all about. Thank you for Sharon.
Thankyou. I appreciate you taking the time to watch. Sadly, due to the controversy of this subject I will be doing updates as work progresses, turning this once might lady into razor blades
Good job !
Thankyou. I’ll be trying to bring updates during her destruction. Thinking of doing a longer video covering key years from construction to destruction

The cost of moving her to Western Australia would have been far more than simply getting it on dry land at Westernport to become a museum which was the original plan .One more peice of our history gone .Now we wait to see if the same fate awaits the Wyuna which was also supposed to come to Victoria as a museum piece of our maritime hstory. What a shame.
The President of Western Port Oberon Association has said it cost the taxpayer $5M to move Otama back to Western Australia
@@droningwesternaustralia Absolute disgrace
We done. The music made it haunting I don't know about that incident but is clearly obvious a tragity at sea
Thankyou. Basically 2 sailors were lost when the submarine dived whilst doing sea trails after been in refit. They were lost at sea, their bodies weren’t able to be recovered.
What's the story here?
HMAS OTAMA served from 78 - 2000. She sat moored waiting to become a museum submarine in Westernport Bay Victoria for the next 22 years. In 2021 she nearly sunk after been hit by a severe storm. So now, neglected and forgotten what was once a strong and proud submarine is a shell of herself awaiting the devils gas axe and her final resting place: Scrapyard
@@droningwesternaustralia Shit, that's sad. As someone who lives in an old military complex, I'd rather see her skuttled than scraped
An old piece of scrap
Unfortunately yes now she is. But things could’ve been so much different
