I can't thank you enough for this video! I've had this projector since the 70s bought it brand new in the store. The belt fell apart literally to mush and there was no pathway for me to see how it went. I got a new replacement, and the instructions said just follow the old pathway. I thought well that's not going to work, it's disintegrated. This video saved my projector. thank YOU so much!
A couple of things to say. That belt is INSANE!! (Nice job fixing it.). I have never seen FF or REW on a projector that works mid film, Did'nt know it could even be done. And as far as I can tell all sound projectors have recording ability.

My Grandmother, occasionally used to play piano accompaniments to our old super_eight home movies, which was fun and all, but voiceovers were never an option until we had them converted to digital. I'd managed to capture some of her piano pieces on a portable cassette recorder, when I was a boy, and used that as my soundtrack. I made a DVD copy for my parents, and gave it to them a few Christmases ago. It doesn't have the same feeling as threading up our old Bell & Howell, but at least I don't have to repair those brittle old splices anymore! :) Your right, by the way, ours couldn't fast forward and rewind, mid film, like yours, and you had to round off those corners, or they'd snag. Great video and I totally sympathize with your belt issue. However, I think you came up with a great solution. Hardware stores have lots of hidden treasures! Some of those large O rings make good tape recorder belts! Now I have some questions: 1) Does this thing have a capstan? How do they keep the motion smooth enough (low wow and flutter) for music recording? 2) The machine is relatively loud but I did not hear the machine noise on your voice over. Can you talk more about how they managed that? Thanks for the very interesting video!

you Did a really good V.O [ Voice-Over ] with the music. I felt like I was listening to a professional trailer for a movie :) I would love to do V.O work and Characterizations also. Film projectors have come a long way. I remember the projectors in the 60's / 70's. if the film was paused too long or stuck in the gate, you would have a nice melting Image on the screen due to the heat of the projector bulb.
I'm drooling. The Old Film Company sell belts :-) The power cable is called a kettle cable. You haven't seen inside my Yelco LSP-510 It seems they didn't want people changing belts looking at the design. I can record sound on my projector too, never done it. I didn't know you could still buy sound film. :-) Your projector is the best! :-D
HELP! I recently got one of these and the large belt was 'melted' so I bought one on ebay. I am having a very difficult time understanding how to thread this close-loop belt (made in one piece) in the configuration described and shown so well in your video. Do you know if a 'close-loop' belt can be threaded properly or will I have to 'piece' one together to make it work, such as you did? It's s real 'Rubik's cube' at this point....;)

Mine has a jumper to switch between voltage 240 and a few others its was on 120 by default kinda scared me I guess I have an EU, ASIA one. Instructions are in American though so I don't know, also have to fix stupid belt. Thanks
My CanoSound PS-1000 has stopped playing sound of the movies. I can hear the speaker noise and set the volume up and down but it doesn't play sound pf the films. Do you have any idea? What do i need to check? Thank you in advance
So I actually found a company who has the replacement belts for this projector. However, I can't figure out how to get the old belt off without cutting it and likewise inserting the new belt. I certainly don't want to start taking a bunch of things apart. Any suggestions?
Had one like this one, never worked as it should, wouldn't keep the correct speed between sound head and film gate, so film would build up in between the two drives. So far, the only Canon gear which has let me down. After this, no more family movies from that time (1978) onwards.
Very cool! Maybe the "PS" stood for "Picture Sound"? I can't find any reference to what it actually stood for either, this item was first sold in 1977 for $269USD and was paired with the top of the line movie camera by Canon, the "CanoSound 514XL-S" which sold for $339USD, or if you wanted to slum, then you could pair it with the low end model "CanoSound 312XL-S" which sold for $289USD. I did find a website that appears to have parts for this device, including belts, you may have seen it yourself ( I'm not associated with this site at all, just located it): goo.gl/mPXzbC .
Don't ever ever pause film otherwise you will burn the film and your movie will be irreparably destroyed so don't ever do it as that actually happened to me and the movie "Modern Times starring Charlie Chaplin" which was totally destroyed and had to be binned and I never used the projector ever again.

I love the auto load and cannot believe you can rewind FF film. The sound quality is great, without recapping the whole thing.

Well....that's a great question. In my case, I pieced it together from several belts. Might check with an online projector forum.
I figured it out and replaced it, but now it won't move - almost like it's too tight - arghhhh!
...and the bulb went out, but I found one and its being shipped to me.
