Lesson to be learnt
1. Always reference and use the right referencing source which for most uni the Harvard Referencing is well recognised
2. Try to paraphrase every words you getting online.
3. Ask questions
4. Never Assume
5. Go for Seminars
6. Make use of your university online tools.

I’ve got my hearing this week for a 3k essay. All my own words but my prof is saying I stole an idea from another article. Luckily I have early drafts + I made notes on my phone as I was reading the book/ watching a film adaption so hopefully that’s good enough proof.
How did your hearing go?
Damn you are lucky! Unfortunately, the university I go to will NOT tolerate the excuse of "I don't know" or "I am from a different country". They will say "you should have read the student handbook".
Actually, you gave a wrong piece of advice about self-plagiarism. It depends on the university. The university where I go does NOT typically tolerate submitting your own work for a different class and will definitely not tolerate the fact that you did not know about the academic consequences of plagiarism.

wow you're lucky, they gave me a final warning on my permanent record and 30% deduction
on my first warning, i got 30% gaped mark on my assignment and they told me I will get excluded if it happens again
Was it your first offence? Were you in USA also? Record for first offence is unusual

The last I've got in turnitin is 22% however I didn't notice when I was doing my masters quite a lot of the foreign students were cheating unfortunately including what you're describing accidentally or otherwise otherwise usually the default

R Slicker hii, because of Covid. I did mine over a zoom call. My plagiarism was 58%. But they considered a minor because they know I worked really hard for it. I would advice you to tell the truth because they will try and investigate further and your punishment could be severe. You will also have someone that advocates for you so try to remain calm.

Good video the problem is some people don't really understand the system the reality is is plagiarism shouldn't happen in the first place especially undergraduate and postgraduate level.
You should put everything in your own words and then reference you cannot be copying and pasting and if people are doing that should not be at university I understand people have English language issues and that's the other problem they're not good enough from an English prospective language point of view.
Only 30% of your overall Mark that's quite a lot and bear in mind and if you continue a postgraduate level and you continue to plagiarize you will be blacklisted for good from all universities in the UK that simple

i used 2 or 3 sentences that weren't mine in an essay and my teacher somehow found out. i got a detention and my parents received an email. this is my first time ever getting a detention and getting emailed by my teacher.. i'm so disappointed in myself 🙁

I’m so sorry to hear that :( I know your going to be just fine, it’s only going to take a little bit plus time goes by fast! Anyways I told my teacher about it and she just gave me a PowerPoint presentation on why I shouldn’t do it and stuff like that. I ended up switching schools because the school I went to wasn’t a very known school and my parents wanted me to go to a better one. Everything ended up working out and now I’m doing better. please read your Student Handbooks. Everything you need to know about plagiarism and referencing is in there. tutors will assume that you have read it so you don't really have any excuse. Most tutors will also outline the basics of plagiarism etc early in your course as well. you will have been assigned a tutor that is there to help and support you as well as answer any questions. they will tell you how to book some time with them. i urge you to take that up. the tutors would rather you didn't suffer in silence. university work styles are very different to school and you find that you are much more responsible for your own study and work. this can feel isolating so ask for help if you need it. Librarians are really useful too. they can teach you the best ways to find your evidence and use libraries more effectively. many essays will be marked by more than one tutor so that individual tutor biases are not an issue and the tutors have a marking guide that helps them assign an appropriate grade. the staff are there to help you but you must help yourself. so read the Student Hanbook! (and ask for more feedback on your marked work if you want more than is given on your returned essay). remember the tutors were students once too and really do know what you are going through and want to help.

Do you have any tips for someone who is a repeat offender, I am absolutely terrified, I can barley sleep, my first incident was a small assignment even tho I didn’t copy anyone I couldn’t prove it, in this situation I made the mistake of trying to solicite answers for my course but I didn’t not obtain any answers, I emailed them back and am waiting for a meeting. I have been honest and admitted my wrong doing.

@Syeda Zaman omg saaaame, I had my meeting today and they decided to give me a penalty 😭😭😭😭 but luckily they only charged me with first penalty so I will have 25% of my mark taken away. I am just sad that they areas record it. Man, I wish I was more careful with what I was sharing 😔

@@sunset1711 so apparently, one of my classmates copy pasted some of my images from my assignment into her assignment and so they pointed that out to me at the meeting. I probably shouldn’t have shared my work with her through email. But anyways, I decided to accept the penalty and resolved the issue like that cause there was no way for me to prove that’s intentions were meant to help someone else,

It turns out . They treat it like a court hearing but you are judged by a cangoroo court you are lucky you are black and a woman . Otherwise they would have kicked you out
Probably has less to do with her being a Black woman & more to do with her genuinely not understanding the system & being incredibly apologetic. Most people are more willing to with someone that owns up to their mistakes & act from a place of ignorance not malice.
I need HELP. I had this continuous assignment which our teacher gave us little information for and told us to 'just answer the question' she also said that we shouldn't reference. On the student portal for the module there was no info for assignments. So i answered the questions with mainly quotations and copied from other sites without references. With several of my assessments theres a 93% 94% etc match. I have a meeting about this. I'm scared.
