Surrounded by time
I'm Growing Old is my favorite. 💜
Growing old is a privilege and a challenge. I grew old too (now 65), but my best friend is a little Hawaiian lady who is 87. She has great positive Energy which inspires me. Your energy and outlook inspires me, too! I almost got to see you perform in San Jose, but it was cancelled, and I was so heartbroken. Hopefully, I WILL get to see/hear you perform before one of us passes away. 😊 I luv every song you've ever sung, but most of all, 'What's New, Pussycat", which I scream-sing in my truck while I drive the lonely highway to town in Texas, where I live. Keep growing old, Mr. Tom Jones! This world needs You! 💗💗💗
Hey Tom, janis had that same type of soul in her singing like you. You both sounded great together complimenting each other vocally.👌
The windmills of your minds
Truerer words could have not been spoken!!! 💙🎶✌
This is why I can’t stop using CZcams. Tom Jones and Janis Joplin in 1969? How can you not watch it?
It is great. Was immediately sucked in.
That's RIGHT!!
Exactly
I know!
Wow…1969!!!
remember when this was live on the Tom Jones show my mom loved him and Janis too like we all did . when they did this duet my whole family was up and dancing , jumping up and down in the living room except for my dad who just sat drinking his beer laughing and enjoying the whole scene .those were great times a very special time, i really miss those days...
Yep, our house too !!!!
Dad couldn't wait for Rawhide, wagon train or Perry Mason to hit our 18 inch TV .
Cool!

My GAWD! I never knew this existed. Man, it's so good to see these two performers giving it all they had! Live - no overdubs, no lip-syncing, no fake playing. It's the real thing, baby. Great band, good energy in the room. Wish I'd been there. Thanks for sharing this one, Tom! I'm so glad you had the opportunity to sing with Janis.
Check out the old Johnny Cash show. Can't believe the people he has on with him
@@76Ibenez Will do, Ibanez (great guitars!). Thanks for the reminder!
Me either. Awesome ❤
Tom Jones and Janice Joplin awesome singers, great video 1963, I was 3
I've loved Tom Jones for 55 years, but man oh man, LISTEN TO JANIS!
Tome Jones is amazing, but I don't even he knew what to do with Janis Joplin.
When your artistic talent is light years above what is humanly possible, you don't stay here too long. RIP Janis Joplin.
Paul McCartney
Janice joplin and Jimi Hendrix were born 2 months apart.
They both made their transition one month apart from each other.
Barbiturates and heroin, is not a positive,Quinella😮
Loved this. So much joy and happiness. Thank you God for this blessing.
That and the CIA
Alive in the wpp
Tom is a powerhouse, but I think even he was blown away by Janis' raw energy and talent!
The girl is real and raw - powderful.
yup, he admitted that in interviews :)
right at the beginning, you can see him have his 'breath taken away'
Géniale janis
He’s trying, but he just can’t match her.
Tom Jones hit an F5 in this performance. That is the highest note I have ever heard him sing. Janis Joplin got him moving and working it in this duet.
He pensado lo mismo.
Jo, T.J. a la altura de voz con J.J.
Guau!!
Anyone singing with Janis Joplin would have to have stepped up their game !!! 😊
You've obviously never seen Tom "dancing like hell". He certainly didn't need anyone else to get him moving...
@@alisonhophing6261 I have seen Tom Jones in person singing. I don’t remember him dancing. Sorry about that!
@@GeneRogers-di6cl Please don't apologise... I was actually replying to the commentor at the top who stated that Janis got him moving. He used to really send it on his show every week, just Google Tom Jones Dances Like Hell...he really sends it
I am 68 and I was fortunate to have seen Janis Joplin in Kansas City, Kansas at The Memorial Hall Auditorium on a Sunday afternoon in 1969 , I don't remember the month but she was with The Full Tilt Boogie Band and Sea Train opened the show, she was wonderful, I was only 14 or 15 and my friend Steve Sassman and I went, his Mom dropped us off and after the show we went to McDonald's and ate $.15 cheeseburgers and$.12 fries , Janis did two shows that day and we went to the early one, she was a great singer and I will always remember her, RIP Janis
I’m 70 and I also saw her in Philly. She was a real powerhouse friendly warm person. She’s now in heaven flying high.
@@Back2blonde Was she with The Full Tilt Boogie Band or Big Brother , I think that The Full Tilt Boogie Band was made up of better musicians, what a shame that she died so young, I would have loved to hear her sing " The American Songbook" she did Summertime and it was beautiful, RIP Janice
Oh my! Sea Train. There's a blast. Philly early 70s. Fairmount Park.
@@marciamiller250 I really enjoyed their music , I don't know what happened to them but I believe there was a lot of personal changes in the band, was Janis Joplin on the bill when you saw them
I love your story/experience!! Janis ❤ I'm thinking likely Kansas - city/state tax wasn't the same in Suffolk County on Long Island. Why you got more for your money. McDonald's in my hometown opened in 1970. Three burgers, one fries, one fountain soda, for 96 cents. I can't remember if the burgers were cheeseburgers. (But I would think they were.) I distinctly remember always getting 4 cents change back. Back in the day. 😊
Listen up, kids! This was the time of real music andmusicians!
So true
Sadly, kids today don’t care about real music made by people who can actually sing and play instruments.
And real entertainment. Not the crap we see today, all show, no talent!
Yessssssssssssss
Да что Вы знаете о современных детях, Дима, у них больший выбор и слушают они тоже что и мы.
I love to see Janis singing happily and with such a big smile. A perfect match here... Go you, queen!
She's beyond believe. Crazy crazy and so much.
God bless you Janis greatest white singer of all time. She is a hurricane tornado 🙉🙉🙉
oh janis had a big smile, after tom and her did there thing!,get it. and from what i heard about tom, he was very well endowed. yahoo.
This performance is like watching the clash of the titans.
You mean screaming happily.
Weird, as much as I love to hear this, it's almost like their singing styles are butting heads with the same competitive energy.
I saw Janis Joplin in Hartford, CT when I was nineteen yrs old. I never saw anything quite like it in my life! What a performance - such raw talent. What she did with her voice was nothing short of amazing. So glad I grew up in the 60s and 70s. What a great time to be young.❤I never imagined a paring of Tom Jones and Janis. But it was fantastic.
What a great memory you have! I wish I could have seen her. TX for sharing.
We did have the best of it!
Ann Wilson a great one too. Someone of our age said it's worth being old now to have been young back then
Don't forget Gracie Slick oh and Gayle McCormick
@danclark3377
U lucky ….
Anybody who could do that well with Tom Jones, and was still only age 26? Absolutely amazing. Her pants were a beautiful color here. ( i notice colors) Wow, imagine what more she could have done. People still really miss her
Only 26🤔…. In those days you were a fully grown adult not an infantilised adolescent like the 26 years olds of today still living with, and relying on the bank of mum and dad….
Janis wore a lot of purple!
Tom Jones and Janis Joplin brought out the best of each other when performing together. Amazing energy and chemistry. These two are the real deal. God bless the soul of Janis.
Tom JOnes was revered by many rock musicians
Tom is one of the most underrated vocalists in terms of ability to handle any genre and keep up with the best! Few people could have matched the rawness and wild power of Janis, but he does! Incredible!

Exacto, poder salvaje de gritos nada más, si eso es tener una gran voz yo me quedo con Tarzan y mi amado Sir Tom Jones Forever 💐❣️❣️❣️
Totally agree. Tom could mix it up with anybody. Top notch singer. You could tell that Janis was a hand full for him on this one..
Yes, I agree, amazing Duo amazing duet. I mean, there's other duets. You know I'm in out there that are like really super cool and stuff. But you know who is louis and gwyneth paltrow comes to mind cruising
@@tappedout300xcmaybe because he was musically talented. He didn't have to screech to reach the top notes like she did. Was never that impressed with her vocals if I'm honest.
Two of most powerful singers of all time. Tom is definitely underrated here.
He was not underrated. He was everywhere TV shows radio live concerts. Just some people thought they were too cool for Tom Jones. A lot of us couldn't admit we liked Tom Jones 😂
"Underrated" comments are overrated... try harder.
@@stillnotwoke Thank you. Kids today say that about stars of the past because they never heard of them without knowing how big those stars were in their day.
Talk about burning down the house !!!. There was enough energy on that stage to shoot a rocket to the moon. Janis was my favorite singer back in my high school days from 1967 to 1971. I just gave away my age. 😅
Tom Jones can really dance! Wow! He’s really gettin’ down n’ dirty, groovin’ with those wild moves! I’m impressed!
Oh yes the man can dance, I could watch him dance all day long!
Tom unquestionably had the moves back then, but Janis inspired him with her own uninhibited gyrations. The camera had to cut away when she started backing in on him. 😉
These 3 minutes and a half contain way more musical talent than the entire past two decades worlwide.
Either one of them singing for 10 seconds live here is better than 98% of modern day singer's entire careers
Damn true
The truth is 90% of the music talent in that 3 min is influenced by R&B and black culture. Diversity is great 👍
And they were 20-somethings!!
@@SiDung-qg7rn 💯
Holy shit! It turned into a house party that we all wish was happening this weekend.
Tom Jones Doesn't. Make. Sense. He is a towering titan of a vocalist. He is a mirror and brings out the absolute best of the people he performs with. And it is just full of joy.
Tom and Janis both look like they are having so much fun here! 2 powerhouse voices!

Incredible duet. 2 of the finest.
Good job Tom, too. He brought it.

He switched her ON )❤
You can tell that they were digging each other's natural talent. I love this so much!
It was The Love Generation, you dig
When I was a kid I never understood why people thought Janis Joplin was so great....now as an adult, I can really appreciate the talent she was. She was also very attractive.
May God Rest her Soul
Amen.
So beautiful and she never felt it saw that in herself.
Yes. I've known her name all my life but only recently saw her interviews and videos on CZcams and I'm blown away. She is such a cutie and her LOVE of music just burst out from her ❤️🔥❤️🔥💖💖
You may be cool, but you'll never be as cool as Tom Jones dueting with Janis Joplin.
Dig it!
Solid.
They were really good friends, but the epitome of cool would have seen Tom and Elvis do something together in 68’
Colonel wouldn’t let Elvis share the stage with anyone.
It's very raw and sexy. Grrrrr
They have different style of music but this was fantastic
I’m stunned. I have genuinely never really listened to any of Janis Joplin, but holy fuck she was amazing. How have I missed this? I thought I had a diverse music taste, but I have been awoken!
Yeah I feel the same way.. She was definitely amazing. More so than I thought too.Tom jones is a little intimidated for a minute. He knew she had an amazing talent. Tom Jones noticed the talent. That janis joplin had the power to mesmerize the audience, And was definitely at her peak. Her voice was the epitome of Blues and soul. Music ,but at the end he felt honored he was on the same stage as janis,Tom jones did just fine in his own right.
Janis was a hardcore Texas Blues singer from Port Arthur. She had such a unique voice that will never be imitated or duplicated. She also was a member of the "forever 27 club" along with Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Amy Winehouse, Brian Jones (Rolling Stones) and Blind Owl Alan Wilson from Cannet Heat.
Janis is a tornado whirlwind of sound and stand alone as top of greatest white women singer of all time. Sorry to bring colour to this but we talking 40 years ago and she's amazing and not been outshined to this day or days to come 😊❤️ janis you crazy Diamond 🌞

Check out her album "Pearl", released after her death. I still listen to it 50+ years later. "Move Over", "Half Moon" and "Get it While You Can" are my favorites, plus the instrumental "Buried Alive in the Blues"
Wow. Tom stepped up to the plate and rocked it out with the incredible Janis. Beautiful and exciting performance!
I was paying so much attention to Tom and Janice. I didn’t even notice they were dancers in the background… and I love how organic Janis Joplin is no implants, no lip, fillers, just simple and organic, and in all that lies the beauty
This just blows away anything in the past 30 years at least. True artists, true beauty. ❤
Her voice is so raw and....yes.... organic......I can't imagine she ever had formal voice training, which inevitably changes that natural quality
I had to look. By golly there are very enthusiastic dancers!
@@jacquelinedavis6607 They weren't even there to dance, they were just supposed to be set dressing. But they couldn't resist that smoking band and two legendary vocalists.
@@danieldickson8591 Who could resist? Not me. Every time I hear music with a happy beat, my feet start tapping. Then comes the humming and my body starts movin' and groovin' .
There was a lady in a clothing store that chided me for my little dance! She's just lucky that I hummed and didn't sing like I did in my car or cleaning the house.
Tom Jones has an incredible strong singing voice as it is but it is hard to believe at the power that Janis produces and very clear too. We will not see the likes of her again, ever. Just one of a kind and so well missed.
Tom Jones is/was a big fan of Chuck Jackson, listening to him.
Look up Vella. She channels a Joplin style!
Tom had to hold his mic several inches away from his mouth in order not to distort his vocal sound and even risk blowing out the mic as he'd been known to do. Janis, like most other singers, holds her mic against her mouth to get the volume...
@@elephantintheroom5678
I'm referring to the operatic-type power and volume jones produces and waaay more powerful than most singers, hence his need to normally sing with the mic away from his mouth. As I already said; he was known to pop microphones in his younger days because of this power.
@@stuartleggat7176 volume matters nothing. What she gives expression to does. I love Tom. But Janis delivers heartbreak in a way that speks for itself. Oh man, Oh man.
Holy crap, what a find this is. Chills. All that power from both, direct, flowing, no lip-synching - and such fun! A new go-to dance number.
I know. It is what you call PROPER MUSIC!!
I really hope that this kind of music come back. I'm so tired to hear music nowadays.
Can you imagine these two on a tour?….The Earth would be spinning faster!!!!!!
It's actually kinda sweet at the end when he pulls her in for that hug, and then kisses her head...the vibe was totally one of "I appreciate you", as if he understood her deep-down insecurity and just wanted to show her that love for who she was...that's what I picked up from it anyway, and it made me go "awwww" 🥺❤❤❤
Definitely. It was an awkward tender moment....he treated her with kid gloves.
Wow such energy. I never knew that Tom and Janis sang together. This was great ❤️
Tom was just trying to keep up with Janis.
Tom was like ... wtf , did I get into ... good match up ... but well beyond Tom ....... Janis was gentle ......

Agreed! This just popped into my feed today. It’s like YT read my mind that I needed a fantastic jam! 🔥💕
Wow! What an awesome raw performance from 2 iconic vocalists. Both Janis and Tom could sing anything, any style.
How the heck did a guy like Tom come out of a tiny place like Wales and conquer every style of music? He can sing anything brilliantly!
Apparently he had the ability to adapt very well to every style of music presented to him; just like Cher who became successful at every genre of music, from ballads, to torch songs to rock and even disco.
Because Welsh people have great Voices that's why
I always say he’s my favorite Welshman
Lucky genetics. A freak of perfecting tje hip patterns.

Hello amazing fan.
Thank you for your beautiful comment.
I’ve seen a whole lot of “RIP” attached to my name all over the internet. This is the reason I decided to debunk this false new of my demise.
Late Ton Jones was the one who conceived the twist on Romeo and Juliet with composer, John Donald Robb. He died on the 11th of August of cancer in his home in Sharon.
Please disregard all the false publications on the internet.I’m still alive and much healthy.
Thank you beloved fan…
Back in the day, the Tom Jones Show was as cool as anything on TV. He had the top rock musicians of that time, and he was pretty smooth. I always watched it.
This is just outstanding...I have watched him now with Cher, and with Wilson Pickett -- he can adapt to whatever style of his guests, and really make them look good. Tom Jones, what a talent!

This is real music. No autotune and pure talent.
Greetings from Rio de Janeiro Brazil
They are auto tuning themselves. No computer processing required.
They are not playing instruments. She's hopping out of beat at times. "pure" is subject to bias. Many singers use auto tune because they like the sound, not because they need it (except rap and reggaeton and such nonsense music).
They are simulating black soul singers so in that regard there is a degree of inauthenticity.
