  • Sherpa Equipment Company kindly gave us a Belford roof rack to try out on our 1st gen Toyota Sequoia and now we've had several months to evaluate it and make a long term review of it. We will be answering the question "should you buy a rack from Sherpa?" and also make a comparision to Gobi racks, which is the only other significant competitor when it comes to 1st gen toyota sequoias. Overrall, we have loved using this rack on our Toyota Sequoia overland rig.

      I bought one a year and half ago and still solide. Got a ARB roof top tent and lights on top. I’m 225 lbs and I can walk on it no problem best rack on the market by far.
      Only problem the screws are start to rust but not a big deal for me it’s a roof rack after all not a piano.

    I own a Sherpa Crestone. The build quality is above all by far the best there is. When you're done you feel like there is a tank up there. They also make installation easy - all the bolts are the same size you dont need to sort tons of different size bolts. They have an installation video that makes it so simple. I did mine in about 1.5 hours but thats mostly because i had to go up and down the ladder, if i had a platform i bet I could have got it done in 45 minutes.

    Love my Crestone from Sherpa Equipment on my '20 4runner. No issues whatsoever with the rack so far. The mounting "feet" are what sold me. Solid, solid rack

    I wish they made ladders for the 1st Gen Sequoias also. I ordered a Gobi ladder since November 2020 and still waiting. I called Gobi in April and they said mid May it’ll be sent out. Nope. Waited til June to call and they said mid July. Let’s see when I call again.

    Great review! Also been thinking about putting an aftermarket rack on my 2001 sequoia and your vid was definitely timely.. considering the Sherpa now thx! I was wondering if there were any measures to prevent theft since it’s still kinda pricey..

    • @TheFraziers
      @TheFraziers  Před 3 lety

      There’s not anything like a lock or key. The only theft prevention is the fact that tools, time, and a little bit of prior knowledge would be required to take it.

    I just received my rack on Saturday. The more research I did, I love the fact that Sherpa doesn’t require drilling or silicone sealant. I looked briefly into Ghobi, the 9 month lead time seemed excessive and I wasn’t much of a fan of the style.

    • @TheFraziers
      @TheFraziers  Před 3 lety

      We’ve got a 255/75/17 as a spare under there and I bet that’s the biggest diameter (roughly 32) that will fit. Maybe if you removed the tow bar you could fit something bigger but not sure.

    • @TheFraziers
      @TheFraziers  Před 3 lety +8

      I reviewed the product within the context of its normal retail price. It’s obvious that I’ll be inclined to like a product because it was free but just because something is free doesn’t mean it’s good. That’s also why I made a comparison against a competing brand offering a similar product at a different price. If you don’t trust our opinion then feel free to not watch. We’re not offended at all.
