All the Way Down - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon

- Friends, on Palm Sunday, the culminating point of Lent, the Church reads from one of the great Passion narratives from the synoptic Gospels. But I want to look at the second reading today-a passage from the second chapter of Paul’s Letter to the Philippians, the heart of which is a hymn or poem. These words go back to the very beginning of Christianity, and they serve as a beautiful summary statement of the faith. Paul is reflecting on the downward trajectory of the Son of God-all the way down into death itself, even death on a cross.

We are blessed to have this hardworking, fearless bishop who is blessed with so much talent for proclaiming the Gospel.
Amen to that!
God bless you, Fr John Brown!
So well said and so accurately expressing our sentiments regarding bishop barron's gifts in bringing us up to Jesus our Lord.
@@jackaarendt8785 you look just like someone I used to know. It's uncanny.
Amen
The power of god is indeed the willingness to empty oneself out of love. Very well put. Our time here on earth is a test of our will and love for humanity. We must put ourselves in Jesus’ shoes and treat everyone accordingly and love thy neighbour and lift each other up. We are his humble servants and we are here to take care of the world and each other.
It’s good for us to know that we can trust in Gods plan and we can do what we can for each other and the world while we have our brief existence. When Jesus came all the way down to die for our sins and reach our world and to teach us a lesson and guide us with it. We all wander far but we are within his reach always.
Thank you for the beautiful message as always. It’s such a great reminder to know we are not alone and we have a mission here while we are on earth.
How am I worthy, a sinner, to get the love of God the Father, Son and Spirit? I am not. But, yet, His love is all around me, lifting me up and providing me with the hope and strength to move on. Lord God, I thank you for your love, for your sacrifice, for your continued forgiveness for me, who sins and wanders away. How blessed am I, and you, and all of us, chosen by God for this love and Grace. I pray to not forget this, to live as you would have me, honoring you for your sacrifice, and to hope for the eternal gift of your love.
Thank you bishop Barron for your videos, I forgot God when i was around 14, I believe this is because social media, entertainment and even my school all promoted a life without God, but now at 19 I've accepted God back in to my life and I can feel it's the right path. But I am still worried for the new generations raised in the west.
God bless you, returning to the faith. At 19, you will find many more temptations to leave it behind once again. Stay the course! God is so proud of you!
I’m inspired by your words. I think the best path forward to grow in faith is to change the playgrounds. Social media does have the side you speak of, but it also has this side with Bishop Barron and others in the faith, the side where one can hear all about Jesus and know God’s plan for us and why Jesus did what he did. Blessings to you!💗
I, too, became disenchanted with church and even God when in my early teens. I was in a very strict Protestant home (church 3 times/week) and was told everything had to be taken on faith. It took me many years to find my home in Catholicism. There will be so very many temptations in the coming years but hold fast to your faith. The Church is the best and truest of all God has given to us. Believe me, I tried many different denominations before coming home at age 69! God bless you.

God has the hearts of the ones coming after us held close to him. He can do all things. Never lose your thoughts of the mercy filled God! He is always and forever with you! Just shine your light and pray for others!🙏🏼
What a wonderful talk. One of my favorites. Bishop Barron has such a beautiful style in illuminating theCatholic faith-both in the vernacular and in more educated terms.
Hi Bishop Barron, as a busy man I cannot believe you responded to my comment. God Bless you in this Easter season.
I am not sure that I have heard the Bishop say ‘nonsense’ ever in his preachings but here we hear it several times. Finally we have to accept the absolute truth unblemished even as it is almost unbelievable. The life and passion of Jesus is unparalleled in human history. Yet, one needs to have a personal relationship with the Father to have an understanding with his Son. Bishop Baron, you have through all your teachings made this revelation so much easier for me. Thank you and I wish you all God’s blessings this Holy Week.
Thank you Bishop Barron, I Love the thorough language of explaining the importance of the Scripture. GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ✝️🙏💜
Not a catholic but I appreciate you so much and maybe someday I will be a catholic.
I find so amazing how this is so misterious and yet, so true! I used to be such a terrible sinner. A young girl, university student, very caught up on ideologies and looking down on Christians. As if that wasn't already enough, I became a New Age practicer, practicing all sort of occultic things. I went so so far from The Father... But Christ, spiritualy, very very spiritualy reached me, during a time of spiritual battle. Pulled me out and elevated me back to The Father. I can say, today, with The Holy Church: JESUS CHRIST IS LORD! I dont know much, i just know that I was in deep deep suffering, I had the Devil stepping on my soul due to the space I had given him, and He came, reaching His hand, preaching His Kingdom. And that, I see, was possible because He went ALL the way down to get me. He went ALL the way down for the blind, the broken. Praised be THE LORD
I'm simply thunderstruck and amazed. This is sufficient meditation for the entirety of Holy Week. And, up to 20 years ago there wasn't even a small percentage of material compared to what searchers for the Faith are showered upon today. I believe faith is very much alive. The comments prove it. As, God has raised up amazing Evangelizers of the Faith. The comments alone proves it to be true. Thank you, Bishop Barron. 🙏
Hello from Pondicherry, India
Thank you dear Bishop
May God bless us all especially the hearers of your sermon
“….he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross.”
Philippians 2:8
When I feel like I’m in a pit and can’t get out … I listen to this wonderful sermon and realise how powerful every word you have just said is. To explain with such passion has helped me to understand exactly the reason I became a catholic. Bishop Barron may you continue to be blessed in your ministry.
Thank you so much for your homilies, lectures, presentations and talks Bishop Barron, as I always find them to be a source of spiritual direction. This will be my sixth Lent/Easter as a Roman Catholic. My background is southern Pentecostal Assembly of God, and had always "church-hopped" up until 2017. I don't feel the need to"church-hop" at all anymore. I have found my home in THE Church of Jesus Christ. God bless you and all you do.
Peace, Joy and Love in the Most Holy Light of Christ Jesus.

You've outdone yourself my dear, dear Bishop Barron! God's light comes through the internet because of you doing what you do in His name 🙏🏼.
A masterful sermon Bishop! From a lLutheran admirer.
It really is mind-boggling that Jesus would choose to die on a cross for sinners like us. We don't deserve it, but Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for us.
Your explanations of Gods words has struck deeply in my heart and made me love God and His son in so many ways I never knew before. My prayers are with bishop Barron that you continue preaching and explaining God , the Father, son , and Holy Spirit with beautiful words that rest in my soul and those of your listeners. Veronica from MN
I was able to follow this chapter in Philippian. Thank you.
Thank you. I benefit most when I am able to link the Readings & Homily in my Bible. My retention is that much greater.
Powerful, passionate sermon. Thank you Bishop Barron.
Thanks and God bless you Bishop Barron! I always thought that "grasped" in Phil2:6 meant 'understood' (like when we say that we grasped the meaning of something, etc.). However, when I checked the Greek, the word is "harpagmos" which means: to openly seize. Thanks to your explanation and the Greek meaning it became much more clear to me that our Lord willfully did not seize (grasp) at the opportunity to be equal to God...He humbly accepted His humanity even unto death (like you explained)! Jesus...please give us the grace to imitate you in humility and obedience to the will of our Father! God bless you all!
If Jesus Christ is Lord, and believing in him I’m giving glory to the Father..then, I’ll give my life to Him.
I’ll follow Him, love and imitate Him. I will entrust all the cares of my life to Him!! And, I humbly pray Lord Jesus, to be with me , as doing so is not always easy..increase my faith and trust in You..amen.
Many a time, I don't realise what OUR LORD has done for me! Thank you for this sermon, Your Grace.
Such a beautiful and powerful reflection, dear Bishop. How your fire 🔥ignites me to love The Father, Son and Holy Spirit all the more!!🙏❤
“Nonsense!” It’s so refreshing to hear such a plain spoken response to all that is put out there (continually) about Christ. Followed by a typically wonderful sermon. Thanks again Bishop Bob!!
so he could bring us all the way up
Peace and love to all the people in this chat. ❤
"He went all the way down to to gather in everone who had wandered far from the Father." Thank you, Jesus.
Thank you Bishop Barron. As always, inspiring message. God bless you and all of your ministry.
Thank you very much Bishop Barron for unpacking this beautiful Sacred Scripture from St Paul. Indeed we are bleseed for having you as the Church, you really make it easier for us to understand the Word of God. Stay Blessed always.
Thanks Bishop. You definitely help me to return to the Father and my Lord Jesus
Thank you so much for these sermons. They help me really understand what's going on at church.
Those who deny the divinity of Jesus Christ will in the end be denied by Him , only in the name of Jesus Christ can you be saved .
Very very simply explained
Yes indeed! I've wandered far away from God and now with Jesus I'm coming home

Amen! Amen! One of my favourite Scriptures.
Thank you, Bishop Barron. Thank you for taking the time, energy to offer us a sermon every Sunday. Blessings.
Thank you, Bishop Barron, for such a beautiful homily. You have a true gift for teaching. I hope you realize that the movement of your hands adds so much to your presentation. Wishing you a very blessed Easter.
Funny, I too, noticed his hands making the point.
If we can muster the FAITH to trust the Father, we will have our reward in Heaven. Faith and Trust. Amen.
Best opportunity to have a real analysis of this verse in Phil by our bishop it's now very clear thank you bishop
Come, Holy Spirit, come increase our faith, hope and love.
Ps 22:8, Mt 27:54
The centurion, together with the others guarding Jesus, had seen the earthquake and all that was taking place, and they were terrified and said, 'In truth this man was son of God.'
😇Jesus, I love You!
God bless you Father and I praise the Lord our God for his love
Wonderful!
Great sermon, Bishop Barron. Jesus' humble obedience to his Father is a wonderful example for us all. Our Father Bryan at St. Thomas More in Norman, OK this evening shared an inspirational homily with us this evening. We are so blessed to have such valiant priests who share God's truth.
Thank you Bishop Barron for this wonderful Palmsunday sermon - yes, Christ is Lord - and he brings us back to the father, from everywhere and everyone!
United in prayer through the holy weeg and looking forward to Easter, our hope, peace and joy!
From God to man, from slave to lamb, He saved us all.
Amen Bishop....Blessings
"To the glory of God the Father that Jesus Christ is Lord."
Thank you Father Barron. Even Jesus served us the greatest gift: His love for God the Father. May we try to imitate this deed daily until we too can rest in peace
Jesus Christ is Lord! Amen.
The future Cardinal of Chicago……please Holy Spirit, we need him in Chicago
Well you can’t have him for long - ‘cause Rome…yup, the catholic Church…we will ALL need him pretty soon!
@@oliveralexandre3607, I'd support that, although I wonder if he'd still have time for WOF, which I truly appreciate.
Funny you should say that as I had that same thought yesterday.
Amen Amen to this most inspirationand depth from Bishop Barron. Never have I contemplated this passage from Paul this way. The historical background and perspective of the earliest times is so illuminating.
Full of wisdom.🙂
I always learn something from you, Bishop Barron. God bless you with good health always.🙏
Thank you once more, dear Bishop, from Argentina, for inspiring us and guiding us closer to God. Through your knowledge, passion, and commitment God uses you weekly to enlighten our minds and kindle our hearts with His Word.
You never fail to inspire me Bishop Barron, I will continue to thank God for the wisdom and understanding through the Holy Spirit that inspires you . Praise God ❤️
This was, by far, the most profound homily by Bishop Barron. It had a passion I had not seen before. I will never forget it. It's something to live by. Spreading the truth. The strength of humility.
Such an important lesson; thank you Bishop Barron
As I sit here at my laptop, having just listened to this homily, I feel the presence of God here in this room I'm sitting in. And so to just step out of that for a moment in order to use language, well, I'm speechless. None the less, I must say that we've just heard the "word on fire." This is the way it still can work, the way it still works, over 2000 years later. It's real. It's very moving. "For those who have ears to hear." I'm addicted to You Tube videos. I don't do porn. But this one stands out, for real. It's like Holy Communion, a very special grace, a very special taste of God. As I said, you feel as if you're in the presence of God. From that unusual experience, there is even more pressure--but a gentle, calming pressure--either to stay in or go out...but in any case to continue to do our daily tasks FOR THE GLORY OF GOD. And to do them as humble servants, in accordance w/ our vocations in life.
Another powerful sermon by the ever brilliant theologian Bishop Barron. An inspiring message indeed ❤
Amen
You let God into your heart. A place that humanity shuts down for selfish reasons. Amen

Well said.
"Sin is wandering from the Father" in Bishop Barron's words. How true. Sin is not so much as act (an F word, a punch in the mouth, stealing a Mars bar) but an existence of estrangement. One is the Law (of Moses) the other is the law of the Spirit which brings us life in union with Christ Jesus (Roman 8:2.)
He is Lord! He is my Lord and Savior. Thank you Bishop Barron!
I am astonished at His love for us.
Hope for the hopeless (all of us) Thank you, Bishop 🙏

Yes! Jesus was born, died was buried then rose again in fulfillment of all of God's creation. I believe he still loves all of us and gives us a daily chance to get it right. I do know that is not how it reads in church. 📖📜This is how I understand it.✝❣😃✌Thank You, Bishop Barron

Awesome homily Bishop Robert. I post them on social media but it's terrible that I get ignored and opposed, even by my loved ones, when I talk about Christ and the church. Keep them coming because the world is in the darkest time in it's history. However, the gates of hell will not prevail against Christ's church and the Immaculate heart of Mary will triumph in the end. May God have mercy on us. 🙏🙌
