I love this piece. Suites my melancholia. Elgar was suffering too when he wrote this piece.

I'd argue this is one of the best Cello Concertos that exist because it doesn't try to make the instrument something that it isn't. It isn't the brightest or happiest like the violin. Instead what it does do is bring you this heartfelt conversation, and really conveys sadness in this piece in a way that makes me want to almost give the instrument a hug because it sounds like it needs it. I don't know if that sounds crazy 😅

If you want a beautiful but short cello piece there's Saint Saens "The Swan" from "the Carnival of the animals". It's a very brief 3 minutes piece, the emotion it expresses are indescribable.

The Video your watching contains both Elgars Cello Concerto and afterwards delius Cello Concerto. If you were still wondering.

A good cello piece to listen to is Paganini variations on Moses from Egypt. It’s very beautiful!

I play cello alongside piano, and it is a fun instrument.

Edward Elgar was (and remains) a popular British composer who figuratively brought Britain's Classical music into the 20th century. UK's best export still today. :) He wrote more famous pieces, but this Concerto, with its mesmerizing main theme, was made iconic by Jacqueline DuPre - a genius girl who in her short years left so many inspired performances touching people's hearts. Witnesses have said she could improvise on a single string of her cello and get undivided attention. Just a little sorry you did not find a video with DuPre performing live - there used to be at least one, if not more, on CZcams. Well worth to observe magic as it was happening!
Still by itself, the Elgar cello concerto is among the most striking in all the literature fro the instrument, rivaled probably only by the Dvorak cello concerto - and if you loved anything by Dvorak, you would be in awe with that masterpiece.

I suggest you to listen to another piece played by Jacqueline Dupré, it’s Fauré Élégie op.24

Alao try Rostropovich playing Strauss Don Quixote part 5. Just under 8 mins. And the 1st movement of the William Tell Overture, which is a 5 part cello ensamble, just under 6 mins

That was going in the deep end, but there's still the Dvorak concerto. If Gidi likes the Dvorak 9th, he'll like the Cello concerto. Incidentally, the 1st 'modern' cello concerto was by Arthur Sullivan. - yes, W.S Gilbert's composer. Rather took Mendelssohn's violin concerto for hints.

Try Dvorak cello concerto 3. Cello is thought to be the most like the human voice in tone and range. It can really cry.

There is no such thing as Dvorak Cello Concerto 3. Dvorak wrote one complete cello concerto, the B minor concerto... but yes, it is beautiful.
