    As a European, we've always kinda mocked the football culture in the US, it felt like the people didn't get it. But now, what's happening in cities like CIncinnati, Atlanta, Orlando, etc, it feels like they understand why it's a religion in lots of parts of the world, it's great, it's exiting to see the conversion and how the world's game in winning over a country who was mocking the sport not long ago. That's the power of football my friends, the beautiful game is for the people, make it your own.

      Louis F Baseball used to be a religion here but spoiled, overpaid players and greedy owners ruined it. I hate baseball, the most boring of the ball sports. NFL and NBA are heading that way too.

      Many of them still don't get it. Didn't you heard the guy saying "it's a child's sport"...many of them go because it's fun but really don't care much for the sport.

      One thing don't excludes the other. My girlfriend don't know or cares about football(soccer) but because of me she goes to many games and she loves the stadium atmosphere, she is always on her feet and is very loud and sings with everyone...but football as a sport or the club is not something that is important for her.

      KingShadow11 not really tho. US youth development is awful. They need a better system. But they have always wanted to get better. But like everything they think it will happen by itself. Football (soccer) here is expensive and it's so difficult to be in a organized system. I have loved the game since I was a kid. But who wants to pay so much money to have a shitty coach that knows nothing more than I do. I learned more from myself than a coach ever taught me. Youth system here in the US is awful

      MLS isn't a closed franchised league because it's new, rather it's because the US/Canada is very large and spread out - same reason why all of our leagues are like this. In England you are never a day's drive away from a 1st-tier or even 2n-tier game. Here, you can have a situation where and entire time zone losses all but one of its teams to the 2nd-tier or lower, with NYC or LA having like 4.

      He was a ticket sales rep. My girlfriend and I stopped there because they had the offer to potentially win two free season memberships. Mentioned I'd been to quite a few Cincy games (I should mention I'm not from Columbus, I'm from Dayton). He just said "MLS will never let them in, they're too small of a market". Also "It would halve our fan base". My thought is that a large chunk of Crew fans from Cincy have probably already switched to FCC. I'm still on the fence myself (no offense).

      When you have to focus on getting the the Open Cup final or playing for first in the 2nd tier, its an obvious choice. They had to fit 4 extra games into the middle of their season and chose to focus on those games, it was a strategy and since there is no relegation, there is no downside.

      What the fuck he's talking about is the ability of a club to come from nowhere (due to the support of fans) and to ride their way up to the top of the league system without having to be identified as a consumer market or a millionaire's hobby. Clubs are much better supported and exciting when they begin with the supporters, not when they're just products being sold to customers.

      netsfan100 We are way too big, that bankrupts many Clubs. The Australian A-League doesn't do it specifically for this reason. They actually lost teams because of that. Also they compete with Four other Major US sports Leagues. If a team gets Relegated the Fan base Disbands. (Wimbledon Dons).

    • @netsfan100
      @netsfan100 Před 6 lety

      It wouldn't bankrupt many clubs, just the few ones that manage themselves horrifically, which is how soccer has always been. You are correct that the A-League doesn't have pro/rel for that reason. However, I'd ask what do you think is more likely, that every country that has pro/rel is doing it wrong and the USA and Australia are doing it right, or vice versa. Also, soccer is the fastest growing sport in America besides basketball and it is already more popular in some youth areas than American football. It is by no means implausible that soccer is the number 2 sport in America in the next 40 years. Lastly, I honestly don't understand the Dons point. That is a club whose fans were so loyal that when their owner stabbed them in the back they made their own club and had thousands show up to 11th division matches. There is no documented case, from a economically equivalent country, of all the ultras and fans just up and leaving once their team has been relegated.

      and all the fans that didnt support local football when it was in the lower tiers? NO FCC is the good side of how a club should grow. atl "united" is a joke and a mockery of football across the world. The fans that only support a top tier plastic club and didnt stick with their local club the silverbacks should be mocked and worse.

    • @cswess7256
      @cswess7256 Před 6 lety +5

      no one cared about the silverbacks because the owners were on a suicide mission and were corrupt trash. Hard to become loyal to a team that has owners that dont even care. Also I diddnt know about the silverbacks untill 3 years ago, their marketing is horrible.

    • @THEsoccerEnjoyer
      @THEsoccerEnjoyer Před 6 lety

      HOLMESDALE USA excuse you but Atlanta United isn’t a plastic club. Silverbacks are a shit club the owners don’t know how to operate a soccer club

    • @holmesdaleusa8862
      @holmesdaleusa8862 Před 6 lety

      lets see dont support local football untill youve got a mls club = plastic mate. cant wait to see this fail once the buzz is gone sadly the mls is holding back US soccer and you cant get relegated one year. Did you try to do anything about the silverbacks being shit or did you just sit on your hands and not do anything to support local football at the time unlike the Silverbacks Trust which are trying to do something!

    • @KaviAck
      @KaviAck Před 6 lety

    Nice! English guy living in Denver, and would love to have a real team to support here. The Rapids are way out on the edges of town, and the whole culture around them seems dull at best. If there were a clearer route to the MLS (i.e. promotion from lower leagues), I'd jump at the chance of helping to start a club here.

    my suggestion for the Pro Rel for US is a hybrid of the current model with a lot of classic prorel system. so If I were incharge, you would still need to buy a franchise but instead of $100M, it would be $20M and you'd have to start in Div. 2
    Div. 2 would have 20-24 teams and Div. 1 would have 18 - 20 teams. my idea is a working progress. what can you say??

    Galaxy fan here, and sometimes I just wish the mls would fold. Small town teams are what create an amazing atmosphere and pride in which the teams thrive on. They also create natural rivalries, and not forced ones like the "Cali classico" . Love my big city team but, wouldn't mind supporting a local team that could actually go through the drama of being promoted.

    • @scottlheureux5909

      Our cali clasico isn't forced. There was no rivalry til we kicked your ass in the 2001 mls cup final, then again in the 2003 playoffs. It got even worse after Donovan betrayed us. There are plenty of forced MLS rivalries, but ours is not. Ours is like Portland and Seattle, or Montreal and Toronto.
