Another cool tool! You talk about the prices going way up. I need a new bulkhead for my home and was quoted just over $3,000 a few years ago. I couldn't get it done at the time, because of all the rains the ground was too soft. I got a re-quote from the same person and now it's over double the price. He said Don't expect the prices to come down anytime soon, because people are willing to pay for it. Same thing for the driveway, I was quoted.
It's out of control. With a recession started I think they should start adjusting soon. The cost of blacktop has skyrocketed. I was thinking about getting ours done but as you say the price has doubled in 2 years. More government spending will only make it worse. In 1981 we bought our first house and the bank rate was 18%, I think history may repeat itself if leadership doesn't change. Thanks for watching.
That's a nice addition to the tractor. Really works well cutting that heavy stuff around your pond. About the only other way would be with the brush hog. Hope you find one before to long.
An offset flail mower would have chopped up the grass but would be much more expensive and maybe too heavy for the Kubota but you’re still retired and have the time to make it work the way you’re doing it. It seems to be working well. Best of luck with it, can’t wait to see the rake set up for the loader. Sounds like another video to come!
They need more hp and a bigger tractor. This actually costs the same as an offset flail without vertical and lets me trim the edges. Once the mess is cleaned up it will be easy to keep under control with this. Thanks for watching.
I think a landscape rake would work much better, the tines on a pine straw rake are really springy, the tines on a landscape rake are more rigid which would make pulling and piling up all that grass much easier.
The Sickle Bar mower is a great option for a small tractor because they don't take much HP to operate them...next to that would be a Flail Mower for low power tractors. I've done a couple mowing jobs this year with my BX2680 and mid mount mower, but a flail mower or rotary cutter is definitely on the list of attachments I need for that type of stuff....the 2 jobs I did were overgrown lots, 3 foot tall weeds and grass, the mid mount mower handled it fine, but its pretty cringeworthy doing something like that when you can't see what's lying on the ground in front of you due to the overgrowth....a flail or rotary mower would be a better option for me...a sickle bar mower would be great for mowing ditch banks, and like you were doing, using it around a pond where you don't have to get so close to the pond bank and risk dunking the tractor in the pond. Everything I've done with my BX2680 has impressed me with its capabilities for such a small tractor.
They are great little machines. I tried mowing some of the tall reeds with the mid mount mower and that stuff is tough and stringy. Was afraid it would destroy the belt in no time. The edges around the pond drop straight down so this will work good. Sure beats the couple days a month I used to spend weed whacking. Thanks for watching
I hope the pine straw rake works for you. I have one I use with my John Deere 1023e. My tractor is very similar in size to your Kubota. I think it will work really well on the lighter stuff you showed cutting in the video. However, I fear you won't be able to easily move the really thick stuff near the pond. The tines on my rake are really flexible and don't do well with big, heavy material. You may want to try a landscape/rock rake. The heavier tines may be more effective with the big stuff. The perfect solution in my opinion would be a hydraulic grapple on the front of your John Deere. They are expensive, but its amazing how well they work for stuff like this. Good luck with the cleanup!
I have a landscape I plan on using with the straw rake on my Deere. I want the straw rake on the bucket so I can reach down over the edges. Not sure how it will work but in the worst case I may have to build a simple grapple as you say. Thanks for watching .
If you can get the rake type grapple it would work really well for cleaning up all that cut down weed mess....they definitely are expensive, and if your tractor isn't setup with a 3rd function its even more expensive LOL. I don't move enough brush around to justify a grapple, but its definitely a want list thing for me as well...I wish I wouldn't have listened to my dealer and went ahead and got the 3rd function installed when I ordered my tractor, that way it would already be there for anything I'd ever want in the future. Rear remotes would have been a nice thing too.
Excellent video, thank you for all the great information. Did you end up having to make the hoses , or did they supply them. If you had to make them can you possibly post a link how? I am going to order one of these, I really like it (If I can get one with all the delays). Thank you again
I just bought a 5 ft hose and adapter fitting from Amazon. I had the extra quick connector. See which flow control and shutoff you get before picking fittings because they use several different ones. Let me know if you get the same setup and I can give you Amazon numbers. I also bought lighter chain and smaller shackles for the down stops. Thanks for watching.
Very interesting. I have the Kubota 26/60 and I'll have to give that some thought Just changed the 2 fuel filters on it for the 1st time. Have a Jesus filled day everyone Greg in Michigan
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 I bought a set of hose compression tools from harbor freight. 10-12 bucks I think. You pinch off hose on each side of the filter and you only get a few drops. They actually work great. Greg in Michigan
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 When you look for him at harbor freight they're not like pliers they're more like a u-bolt with one side threaded and a piece going across it. There's four different sizes in this set. Two smallest ones work fine for the Kubota filters. Greg in Michigan
I used to operate a sickle bar mower for haying years ago going slower it lays down the hay. Was there a local deal that put u onto this Italian machine.
That's what this is really made for. Any dealer can get them from the local distributor. In Europe they still use small tractors for farming and they make the best. Thanks for watching.
You hit the compost jackpot
Its going to be a big pile. Thanks for watching.
Looks like a terrific bit of kit.
It works great with the little BX. Thanks for watching.

Sickle bars are the perfect machine around ponds. I have a 9' cut New Idea that I use around all seven of my ponds.
Looks like it will work great once the big mess is cleaned up. Thanks for watching.

It does a good job. A brush hog will work good for the edges. Thanks for watching.

Looks like a good little unit will do the job for you !
It seems to work well and should make future maintenance easy. Thanks for watching.
Great video, Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching.
Neat mower, I will be interested to see how the pine straw rake works out as well.
That could go either way. Hopefully it will be strong enough to handle the reeds. Thanks for watching.

I will have mine on the back but it can't reach out over the banks far.

You can just tee in an electric solenoid on the loader quick connectors for occasional use.

They are tough little tractors. I did that last year and that one filter was tough to access and swap without making a mess. Thanks for watching.

Thanks, I will have to look for them. I tried needle nose vice grips and it was a mess.

and when you rake it all up don't forget to put it in a heap and make COMPOST out of it. I'm sure you could use some of that in your garden.

What a scary piece of equipment
Not as scary as a rotary mower that throws stuff out. Thanks for watching.
👍
Thanks for watching.
How bout a flail mower (with hammers) after the sickle bar...like your videos
I don't have enough pto horsepower on my tractors to run one. Thanks for watching.
Can you put the grass in a mulcher and use it in the garden ?
You can compost it and it will break down on it's own. Thanks for watching.
To bad you didn't have some one walking behind you with a Hook to pull the stuff out and away.
Thanks.
Mike M.
That's what I plan on doing once I get the rake set up. Thanks for watching.
Just need a rake and baler and you're in business with hay 😁
That's what I was thinking for the top field. Thanks for watching.
Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to get some goats /sheep?
No. You have to care for them, try to keep them fenced in, vet bills, and time. Thanks for watching.
Wat it.s the price tanks
Check with your dealer because pricing changes daily. This was almost 5k with taxes last year they were under 4k. Thanks for watching
