  • "I forgot to give him the axe
with which to slay our mother.
There are no gods in heaven!"
"Let those who are happy do as I do --
    be silent, and DANCE!"
    ~Elektra
Elektra bids Orest to slay their mother inside the house. Roused by the blood-curdling screams of Klytemnestra, the maids rush to find out but leave immediately when Aegisth arrives. Aegisth enters the courtyard cheerfully, not knowing the murder that just happened and surprised by the presence of Elektra, who bears a torch to escort him into the house. Once he enters, struggles and violent commotion are heard from within the house. Chrysothemis bursts into the scene to declare that Orest has triumphed and that everyone in the house is rejoicing. Elektra breaks out into a jubilant ecstatic dance, then she falls dead at the climax. Chrysothemis calls out to Orest for help, but nobody hears her pleas. The opera closes with Elektra lying dead on the floor.

After so many years still an outstanding example of what a fantastic team of songers can perform when guided by a genius of a conductor. A true legacy of great musicians of the past... THANK YOU!
