- Something New is a 2006 American romantic comedy drama film directed by Sanaa Hamri. The screenplay by Kriss Turner focuses on interracial relationships and traditional African American family values and social customs.
Kenya McQueen (Sanaa Lathan) is a successful, single African American woman who has sacrificed romance in order to pursue a career as a certified public accountant. Her obsessive compulsive desire for perfection and control has manifested itself in the bland, monochromatic decor of her new home and the rigid rules she follows in her personal life. Urged to loosen up by her friends, Kenya accepts a blind date with landscape architect Brian Kelly (Simon Baker). The two meet at Starbucks, and she is surprised to discover Brian is white. She quickly excuses herself and leaves.
The two unexpectedly meet again at a party, where Brian landscaped the grounds. Impressed with his work, Kenya decides to hire him to renovate her unkempt backyard garden. As time passes, their employer-employee relationship evolves into a friendship and then love.
Stupid Love is the fourth album by American singer-songwriter Mindy Smith, released in 2009. The eleventh track "True Love of Mine" is a duet with Daniel Tashian.

Love Simon Baker, but this was TOTALLY not believable. ZERO chemistry between these 2 actors. And she was a witch from the start (didn't want his dog around, etc.) -- had this been real life, he never would've wasted his time with her.
@Beverly. Her attitude in the beginning towards him was a key factor in the film. She was living a life that was not true to who she really was. Her mother’s approval and status was part of her unhappiness. She had an attitude cause she was miserable but wouldn’t admit it, so she buried herself into her career and appeasing her mother. Brian came along and loved her unconditionally which allowed Kenya to be vulnerable and evolve. Ultimately in the end, she followed her heart cause Bryan accepted her for who she is. Our partners are not suppose to change us to conform to their likings, but they’re to grow with us. There are a lot of people in the world who are in love with one another but aren’t together, and there are a lot of people in the world who are together but not in love. Society will continue to put people into boxes if you allow it to.

SANAA LATHAN loves her WHITE MEN, that explains why we’ve never heard/seen her with any real relationship or marriage. Half her acting career has been spent with white men love interests! I’m sure she could never bring that kind of drama into a black relationship!!! Trying to explain to a black man that she doesn’t REALLY love white men may be hard for her. Why doesn’t she just marry a white guy ??
