- Hy in this video i present you Restoration of this HUGE Fancy Old Table Lighter.
This lighter is twice the size of a normal cigarette package.
This lighter works by pulling up the wick cap bar and spinning the cylinder on the opposite side to create the spark, Lighter produce a big spark that jumps to the wick ready for lighter fluid.
This lighter was probably made in 1940s/1950s made by a Japanese Company NESOR.

Cool restoration. But 2 things I'd change: no black paint, and no stickers.

odd tinkering is way better.
It's not even very well painted. Very orange peely. I was hoping to see it electro-plated.
Could've been better if he just buffed it

You certainly don't have to worry about losing that lighter! It's a really neat piece, and you did your customary excellent work restoring it. Your sense of humor makes your videos very entertaining... please continue!
I find it weird when people say "you didn't keep the original paint" "you've ruined the "history" of it". Soo, you'd rather it rust and rot away not being of any use? What's the point in that? Why keep the "originality" of an old piece if it's falling apart and unusable. How silly!
Amazing work as always! Love this channel, watching old items given a new life is so satisfying! Keep it up!
I think it's because on the video title it says Restoration. This isn't restoration it's fixing and revamping it.
Restoring is fixing it and making it look close to what it originally looked like when he came out of the factory.
He didn't do that and honestly, in my opinion, the stickers look tacky on it. Cool stickers but they don't look like they belong on that type of lighter. Maybe if it was the same logo but as a metal plate with the same colour as the top, it would look pretty sick and vintage looking.
Browsing.The.Internet
Restoration can be anything that makes a broken tool work again. This is restoration.
Electroplating the tin case would've been dope!
I rather if seen u polish the entire case and clear coat it
Awesome restoration as always but I couldn't help but think how much better it would have looked with a gold and bronze color. Since the design was already vintage and the top almost looked like jewelry, the steampunk style would have been perfect for it!
“Yo, you got a light?”
“Yeah” *pulls out a whole jerry can*
I’ve about had it with people saying he should have done this or he shouldn’t have done that. He did it the way he likes it, if you want to do it some other way go get one and do it yourself.😕
You forgot to add, "and then post it to CZcams. For morons who don't know what they're talking about, and don't know the first thing about restorations, to leave their worthless comments."
littttterally. it's so annoying seeing people say stuff like that. I just left a comment similar to yours on a long thread of think-they-know-everythingers
I just told my husband the same thing!! If they think they can do it better than prove it. He will never make everyone completely satisfied. If they don't like what he does then don't watch the videos...it is as simple as that.
To be honest, comments go both ways. Not everything will be praise. It's not a praise section. I myself am mighty impressed by almost all the videos on this channel, but of course, I have no clue what I'm talking about ;). Saying all comments must be 'you did everything right' is silly. Most makers love getting feedback and tips :)
That was very hard to read
Seems like the can is missing an external lining, like faux leather or faux crocodile. The can is showing things that shouldn't be seen like the join and the welding and the notches to secure the base and top. I doubt these would have been left to be seen on a piece like that which supposes to be something of luxury item. I kinda remember something like that with a green faux crocodile lining by my grand parents or something.
Paul Van Obberghen I was thinking the same thing, that the case was missing.
Brilliant work. This is called a lift arm lighter. I don't think it's all that old, having the plastic tank in it tells me that much, but my idea of really old is 20's 30's 40's. this is probably a 70's reproduction. It's not a "spark stone" it's called a flint. This design, though not in this size, is one of the earliest designs. being so large made it an easier repair/restoration to a degree. On the pocket size ones, the parts get very tiny and difficult to shine up.
From now on I'm calling flints 'spark stones'.
@@docdavefr be that way you obstinate reprobate
Another 18 minutes of sheer relaxation.
Thank you.
This is so hypnotic to watch . No fancy music , no commentating ... just.... silence
I love the way the lighter looks in the end
If I saw two identical lighters like the one shown, one with black paint + stickers and I one with original plain brass - I would purchase the plain brass. Good video though.
there was never an "original plain brass", the originals had faux (or real idk) leather on the main body so the metal on the main body was never meant to be shown. Also it's his resoration let him do what he wants with it.
I love the perfectly restored items which are dissembled with rusty pliers.
In awe of the size of this lad. Absolute unit.
Are you under a birds nest doing this 😂😂
You wearing the customised Victorinox Swiss Knife around your neck & close to your heart shows that how much you respect him! And we the audience love both of you!
I love the stop motion photography you use from time to time!
Most of us would have just discarded the lighter as unsalvageable. But you rescued it and patiently began your restoration magic, carefully turning an unattractive, rejected, and unwanted item into a beautiful regal work of art, worthy of its own dazzling display in Versailles! It reminds me of Charles Perrault's "Cinderella!" Astounding video!
I don't care about the stickers. The important things are no music, no voice, higher resolution video and nice technique. Well done and keep doing your work.

The old stuff has a surprising amount of character. It just takes a little TLC to bring it out. Great video.
Lots of CZcamsrs get gifts in the mail and I rarely see the receiver use the gift and be so gracious about it. (Y)
Nice. But one word of advice, you should have wet sanded the clear coat to give a mirror finish instead of the orange peel effect you get with new paints
M1LAD what kind of sand paper you need to get the mirror finish?
I have personally tried up to 2000 wet sanding but never got mirror finish...
@@rronaldreagan you might need to start at about 1000 and work your way up to 2000 or 2500. Sometimes its tougher. But it helps to wet sand between each coat of clear. And definitely make sure your primer surface has been wet sanded super smooth. Your primer surface always reflects the end result. And the less work you have to do wet sanding the clear coat
@@rronaldreagan Also when everything is done you should use some compound and then a lighter polish to finish it up. Youll have a great look. Hope i helped!
I like to use car polish compound to remove any grit at the end but the primer is everything if ur looking for an end result also i find not every sand paper is the same dont chince urself out then obviously a polishing compound added
for a mirror like reflection you could use aerography, spray paint is kinda thick for that
A lighter like that would be very useful on a camping trip or any extended time away from home.
your videos made my 2 year old son happy
Man, this is classic. I love every aspect of this job.
Great paint job but I think there's supposed to be a decorative sleeve for this style of lighter, usually leather or some silver plated metal with similar embossing as the wick arm.
I think this was originally wrapped in leather, I have a similar one
Same here,a jack Daniels one correct?
@@tonydanhs2371 nah it had no branding

At first I was skeptical of the black paint. Thought it would look better in chrome. Needless to say I was wrong. Great stuff man!
This is one of the coolest lighters I've ever seen.

Lovely restoration as usual! By the way, a "spark stone" is a "flint".
You did a damn good job restoring that lighter
For cigars, I would assume, and to set on a desk or table. Certainly not something one would carry around. Great job!
I bet you can heat your workshop with this giant lighter!
Wow!
Nice work, thx for the vid!

For those complaining about the stickers, then I'm certain that with today's amazing technology, they can be removed.
Excellent job!
I actually love the finished work, with the sticker also, its great to leave your signature somehow no matter what others think. Keep like this, that sticker makes the item unique someway.
yes but a restoration is about bringing an item back to the day it was new and what it looked like back then not to make it new and change the look if your going to change it make a brand new one from scratch

Very cool peice. I also have a mini victorinox that I use randomly when I don't feel like looking through my tool box. Also Mr. Bean at 8:45 :)
great video mate... love the work and attention to detail.... I would have had to polish that black paint up to a mirror finish though.... great job anyway !!!
Another superb restoration there. Just a quick point, we call the “spark stone” flints.
I would love to see a blooper reel from all of you restoration guys.
I had the pocket version in silver. I would have re-nickeled the case. Time to learn how to do that.
Yes, or yellow zinc plating.
A true man's lighter for a gentleman, for lighting a cigar with the chaps
Omegaweaponsguy2 and getting a fire going for a nice cup o’ tea
This huge table lighter was once covered in a "wrap around". I could have been snake skin, leather of various colors and styles, crocodile/alligator etc. and to put a new wrap on... you have to have good skills or it would look like crap. This now functions again and I like it because I know TYSY will be using it in the future...which makes it a great job done.

I think the stickers are cool! It shows that it’s yours, kinda like how companies spray paint their names on things.
The singing birds on background are awesome.
Kinda confused me though. Where I live, we have the same sounding birds. Was wondering why the birds outside were singing during a thunderstorm
Dude carry it with you in your pocket))

BTW I really liked that Swiss knife from My Mechanics:-)))
I'm surprised to see plastic being used in the 50's I know its been around along time but it always surprises me to see it intrude in the antique resto vids
A future similar project would look fabulous with a brushed steel finish.
I’m a little curious as to why you chose specifically to paint the tank cover. I would have given it a zinc coating, seeing how the lighting parts were a gold zinc. The silver would compliment the gold, IMO
Parabéns! Ficou muito bem restaurado! Pessoalmente eu teria cromado, ao invés de ter pintado de preto... Mas está ótimo! Bom trabalho! Brasil!
It’s interesting how you keep even the smallest parts. I guess all this what you do is hard, but you definetly love to fix old things.
I am fascinated how strict and careful do with the all parts.

Wow you are a true artisan when it comes to restoration....love the sou ds of the sweet birds in the background too❤
I think that the case on these were originally covered in leather like snake skin. it was an expensive item and would not have been left with spot welds on pressed metal showing. Beautiful item :)
Great work! You have inspired me to start my own restorations as a new hobby!
Nice finishing touch with the coin. 👍
Man I bet PES would be proud of this stop motion.
Never pimp antique stuff, dude. You did great job, though .
@Michael Corleone They did, but it wasn't used for as many things like they do today. Development of plastics started with natural materials that exhibited plastic properties. Modern synthetic plastics were invented around 100 years ago. And it was actually invented by accident, In the 1907 Leo Baekeland invented the first fully synthetic plastic called Bakelite. He was trying to find a substitute for Shellac (natural form of plastic made from shells of oriental lac beetles) used as a natural electrical insulator to meet the needs of the rapidly. electrifying United States.

Bakelite is not plastic, it is it’s own type of material

Very nice and I can see it being a very classy way to light candles when guests are over. The stickers as many have said are a bit much but perhaps an engraving might look a tad more extravagant? Gold colored, embossed or engraved might look fantastic on that black coat.
Holy shi- That's some flame that thing makes! Didn't think even that would be to scale as well.
Guy : Hey man , got a light ?
Me : Yeah. **pulls out this**
Guy : Ya know what ? Keep it.
Excellent video as always but a tip for black paint to get a better finish. Paint and lacquer as usual but then leave the first coat of lacquer to dry and set. Then sand and repeat the lacquering until you have a mirror black finish. Also, when sanding on a flat surface try not to use your fingertips. A sanding block or the pad of your palm will give a better finish especially with high gloss paint :)
I didn't mind the stickers or paint. It looks clean as hell; not every restoration has to still look vintage. Nice job man
