@@Jon-Rimmer Well, I'd say that a complex character has to have more than flaws and mistakes. But my main problem with the morally grey characters is the writer not committing to the 'morally grey' bit. It starts with "this character did some morally questionable actions" and goes to "this character is actually the good guy and did nothing wrong" and the narrative bends over backwards to justify their actions.
I had thought you were talking about morally grey characters in general, but it seems to me that you're talking about characters that were already known as morally good (like superman) and were given a twist, subverted. 1:58 you did it again, you blamed a national hero of austria for not preventing anworld war when the guy was a de facto figurehead at the time. The man spent his entire, very long, life preventing tragedies like ww1 and your blaming him for it when he was on his death bed?

He saved the empire many many times, hes a complicated figure but he was an overall good monarch that help austria together in a century where it realistically should have collapsed about 30 times lol. By the end of his life he stepped back from politics but was still a very popular and unifying figure, look up greatest austrian ruler or best austrian ruler and i guarantee hes the first guy that would come up.
