1:21:37 Not only is the story racist against people, but it's racist against animals, too
I read this book thinking it would be smt way better but it was soo shallow😭😭 it made me giggle a little tho
I despise The Hypocritical Drinker so this is amazing
Whats even the point of the 'new adult' genre. I don't see why anyone would label their work as that.
The description of this video doesn't make sense. It's not relavent to the video, and doesn't make any sense. Please explain or revise description.
OMG! I agree with your take on The Drinker's disciples. They feel that The Drinker is so perfect and they will not tolerate any criticism towards him
Everneath? More like Never neat, am i right
Nice to see someone having a dig at Critical Drinker, I'm sick of him and his cronies boring everyone shitless about wokeness - whatever the fuck that is. One thing though, I would like to know why you decided to take a pop at English people? It's not like we're French or American, two countries that are really shit. And just remember you couldn't make your videos without England as you wouldn't have a language to speak.
Honestly it takes knowledge and inspiration from beyond your genre to be able to produce something above the norm, and TWA struck me as a guy who only really ever read pop culture heavy sci-fi and fantasy.
One day I hope to publish both my books, Afterworld and Crashland Invasion, and it's my greatest desire that if you see this comment and ever review them that you refer to Afterworld as Midder World and Crashland Invasion as Crashland Mid-vasion.
I’m surprised he didn’t write “the massage” in bold letters every few sentences
Woooooow, that green screen sure is awful. I soooooo don't want to see any more of it. That would toooootallly suck. For sure... yeah, certainly.
James being pro bullying when it comes to the main characters xD
Yes, that new students introducing themselves is a thing in plenty of countries. I've gone through that personally. I guess it doesnt happen or happen much in America though based on what you said?
His blowing off 4 years of solitary as nbd is profoooouuuundly ignorant. I struggle with agoraphobia and once spent 2 years basically alone, and those 2 years still live with me today half a decade later. It changed me in ways that make me kind of alien to most people, and not in a cool and mysterious badass way. I didn't exercise to pass the time, I deteriorated because no one was there to see. Keeping in mind I had the internet, occasional visits and wasn't being SA'd by a prison guard, so you could argue I didn't even have the full experience.
As a British person, I'd like to point out that being possessed by the ghost of a murdered victorian child is a widespread and serious problem and should not be made fun of by ignorant AmeriMUMMY NO NOT THE FIRE POKER PLEASE
Is military sci-fi even a genre? How can it be defined?
There was one volume of the manga in the middle of the story at the library which I read like 20 times. It made me a weeb.
7 deadly sin anime has the same premise of the man living forever and the woman forced into reincarnation
Best way to make it great is by Anime!
I think this sounds like it could be a really cool set up for a dnd campaignin though
I just liked The Last Kingdom because of the time period. Even though they didn't get it right visually or societally really and the writing was awful. My friend group would always go on about how inaccurate the costumes were which was fun.
why do I get the feeling this is Bourne fanfic with the serial numbers filed off?
Oh no, the worst thing you can be, a 5/10! ..apart from a 4, a 3, a 2 or a 1.
My hot takes: Biggest one first - I don't think writers always need to be subtle. I think authors should be more comfortable with just writing what they believe in instead of skirting around it and using allegories. Fantasy is an awful genre. The interesting part of the genre is the fantastical world and how that affects characters. The genre has sucked since LotR and Earthsea because everything since is just trite. Either they try to make it the real world but slightly different, at which point Historical fiction is just better, or they make it epic D&D Tolkein world which makes my eyes roll. The Wheel of Time was one of the worst franchises to get into I have read in a long time, and I dropped it at the second book (I don't read fantasy much so...). Decent fantasy is only found in sci-fi, steampunk etc., or in other mediums like manga and graphic novels (Made in Abyss is the only good like proper fantasy story I have read in years). If there is a Tolkein elf, anything to do with D&D, a goodie kingdom and an evil empire, good and evil, edgelord shit, or even a hard magic system I will not read it. I hate Game of Thrones. I dislike both the TV show and the book, though I haven't finished either. I very strongly disagree with the sentiment that "themes are for 5 year olds" or whatever the writers of the TV show said. Themes, ideas and characters are the most important parts of books for me, not worldbuilding. I hated GoT because it felt pointless, the world was boring and fell into tropes of why I dislike fantasy. I much prefer historical fiction (even though that genre has its own problems like writers who churn out a new book every year because thats how they get paid), and I think if GoT was about like the Wars of the Roses it might have been more interesting for me. I don't mind dry writing if its illustrating interesting concepts. Foundation was great even though it was really dry. The Three Body Problem was very good despite the translation probably not having as good prose as the original. I love the old Arthur C. Clarke books even though I wouldn't say every one is the pinnacle of character writing. Dystopian fiction is pointless, and is one of the worst 'genres' imaginable if it can be called that. Not to sound edgy or anything but we live in a dystopia. I can vote for whoever I like but I don't actually engage in democracy, which is 'Direct Democracy' (slandered as impossible in modern society by the ruling class), rather than the marketing term which stands in for it. This isn't democracy, its based on the Roman republic and even then we lack assemblies of people that can just decide things. The system is just there as a mechanism for the ruling class to keep ruling. It doesn't matter which party wins because they all work for the bourgeois anyway. What matters is which class is in power and it fucking isn't mine. On top of this the government hates queer people like me and spends resources beyond what I can even dream of to discredit us, deny us medical resources we need, divide us into sections that hate each other, break us away from the working class, and kill us slow deaths. Labour and the Tories both think this. On top of this they exploit the third world with deadly imperialism, murdering a million each year. Dystopia is something only upper and upper-middle class people have to worry about, because for everyone else dystopia is the world we live in. It's the lowest rung of fiction and almost fascist. George Orwell ratted out gay people to the British Intelligence machine before he died, that fucker. That being said I liked the Hunger Games a lot.
I wonder if his vids are just him telling others not to do what he did and is the most harsh on himself
Like 90% of fiction is just humanity f*ck no. It's gotta so old, no I don't wanna hear another 20 year old English major whine for 3 books about how most of humanity's corrupt and bad. Every fantasy, sci-fi, litrpg, adventure, and romance story crams in an least a few lines about the dark and "real" side of human nature. Every time it's just some hopeless drivel from a upper middle class kid, who has less than 3 decades of life experience from a first world nation That's why I started to read HFY, and yeah a lot of it is poorly written by amateurs writers, but the well written ones genuinely has some of the most creative ideas I've seen in years. Edit: it also seems like you just read 5 of the deathworlders knockoffs and decided that was the genre
The Witcher is better than hp
Noooo not Jamal!!!
ngl that doesn't sound mid, that sounds legit bad
Checking it out now.
Makes sense that avoiding bad writing produces writing that is merely not bad and nothing more. I have a lot of fond nostalgia for that channel, I hope he writes another book some day, and that it's more than mid :)
33:04 makes Marvel and DC look like a documentary.
Ruining the 300 comments number by adding a mid nothing comment wooo \o/ Ok fine, also the review was good!
This seems to mostly boil down to "i don't like CRPG's" and fair enough, thats preference. And playing it on a potato is not doing you any favours. My other favourite game is xcom 2, and while its smaller, it runs about as well on my laptop on medium settings. Thats an almost 10 year old game by the way, so id say its not expetionally badly optimised compared to most modern games.
IS CAL A HOMESTUCK REFRENCE?!?!🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Creatives need to be good at critique in their field in order to be able to be good in that field? This is just critic's cope, the implication being "I see myself as a good critic in field x therefore I'd probably be awesome as a creative in field x and do better than the creatives that I don't like", especially when all such considerations are typically subjective. Critics are often exemplars of "those who can't do, teach", just swap teach for critique. For decades intersectional academics have plied their critique of mainstream pop culture mainly around race, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation. This garbage has since gone mainstream in political discourse and is now the guiding principle of narratives in film, tv, western video games etc. This has resulted in historically poor box office performance and the all but complete destruction of the US comics industry (now being surpassed in America by manga). Consider the unpopular opinions or attitudes of some of the most celebrated auteurs and creatives. James Cameron, Ridley Scott, Scorcese, Lynch. Maybe you should consider the possibility that it is precisely their unconventional way of seeing the world that makes them great at what they do. None of this has anything to do with criticaldrinker, I just got triggered mere moments into the video lol.
fair point, creative works might best be made intuitively and following inspirations and experiences rather than rules and conventions, which are guidelines moreso in my opinion
@@GoldandGunpowderExactly. Case in point, Jackie Chan's action direction. He never had story boards or traditional training in directing. He just decided how he'd film each scene as he went and there's great videos demonstrating how the results are hits with more weighty and believable than the fights scenes in Western movies.
Baldur's Gate 3? You mean Divinity with smut? :^)
Ok I haven't read Onisions stuff so idk. But as an aspiring first time author I have a lot of respect for how he is just writing about what he likes.
I;m sure you have no bias at all given your takes on Shad and other indie creators
"Muh bias" stfu drinker fans are the most bias people I've seen.
@@yungmuney5903u seem upset
he never said how to be a good writter just not a bad writer
You know this is fiction right? Use your imagination lol The story doesn't need to be bound by our real world logic as much as there are explosion and gun sounds in the vacuum of space during Star Wars, and monkeys ruling the world in Planet of the Apes. lol It doesn't need logic.
Book is great, and the movie is comedy gold!
Anya is my favorite character in fiction purely for the sole reason that drinker would 100% go absolute apeshit over her if it was written by someone else in the mainstream. 😂 And will make sure to never let it be forgotten, like he does with Captain Marvel, She hulk, Abby etc.
Difference is, Captain Marvel (Comics and MCU0, She Hulk (MCU), and Abby sucks! Awfully written characters
@@Shockkings0714 What difference? Anya is even worse then what he fearmongers about "modern female characters".
@@yungmuney5903 Have you actually read her? Or have you just read a synopsis?
Have you actually read her? Or have you just read a synopsis?
Its just mid? Not... terrible?
I really liked most of it, but no love triangle 0/10
Jokes on you, I’m playing Bloodborne
The problem comes from the perception that high fantasy or just fantastical stories in general must be the product of a particular set of tropes that have very little relation to people's lived reality. As a response, low fantasy always seems to give in to/intensify the unfortunate/adult realities of our world to create a place where it is even more unreasonable to have any hope in the first place. What I love about the best fantasy works is that they take us out of the world we live in so that we can approach the problems of our life with imagination and hope rather than bitterness and resentment.
The opposite of dictatorship isn't democracy, it is having no government at all.
