Brielle's Wish To Have a Winter Wonderland | Make-A-Wish of Central and Northern Florida

- Prior to her #diagnosis, Brielle was your typical child who would play with her sisters and have fun with the best of them. Gradually, she began to lose some of her milestones, and by 13-14 months her parents realized she should probably be walking by now and grew concerned.
They took her to the doctor, who ran a series of tests. It was confirmed that Brielle had Alexander's Disease. It's a degenerative disease, and her parents were told she may not live past the age of 2.
Brielle is proudly 12 years old now and attends #hospital home bound school so that she can do her treatments when she needs to.
Her treatments happen four times daily for an hour at a time. It's a shake vest that helps to loosen mucus from her lungs, so she doesn't develop pneumonia. They then use a cough assist to suction out any mucus buildup. They take this time together as a family and shake to some music.
Brielle's parents try to normalize her life as much as possible. When she was more mobile, her physical therapist suggested Make-A-Wish. Her parents believed that Make-A-Wish was only for children who were at the end of their lives, but it isn't. Make-A-Wish is for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
It was a bumpy road getting Brielle to her #wish. First, she got sick. Then covid hit, and then she got sick again. Her mother knew that issues could keep popping up, so she contacted Make-A-Wish and said 'let's make this happen now.' It was short notice, but we're in the business of wishes, so we made it happen.
Brielle's wish was to have a winter wonderland. We transformed their home, Santa showed up, and all of their friends and family. Brielle loves Christmas, so this was very magical for her.
Their entire family realized that this wish did not signify the end of the road for Brielle. It was symbolic of her beginning.
