- Various messages circulating on CZcams, WhatsApp and other social media sites claim to show the Real Voice of Swami Vivekananda during his Historic Chicago Speech on 11th September 1893. There are in fact quite a number of video and audio recordings claiming to show the same and the real voice of Swami Vivekananda, the Indian monk.
Ramakrishna Mission, the monastic order founded by Swami Vivekananda himself preserves his letters, photographs and other artefacts. According to the Ramakrishna Math, there are no audio or video clips of Swami Vivekananda which are found to be authentic. In fact, their research found no recordings in Chicago in September 1893 as technology did not allow it. They also point Mr. Barrows introduced Swami before his speech, not a woman as found in some of the fake recordings available on internet. Further, Ramakrishna Mission mentioned about some recordings of the Swami Vivekananda’s voice in India and abroad. Swami himself sent some of them to India. They are documented at the Mysore Palace in 1892 and at Ambala in 1897. But unfortunately, they say none of them is traceable today.
Therefore, the videos and audios claiming to show the real voice of Swami Vivekananda during his historic Chicago speech in 1893 are fake.

In 1893, one minute gramophone disc recording on zinc disc coated with wax and etched with acid to get a metal recording was available. Moulds were made from the metal discs and copies were made using gutta rubber, cellulose etc..
During this period 2 minute recording facility on wax cylinder also was available. Invention of methods to make copies of wax cylinders were invented in 1905.

The 1st dialogue (bolti) film 'Aalam Ara' was shown in talkies during 1931. Hence invention of AUDIO began by 1931. DUMB film Raja Harishchandra began in 1913. So it's impossible about existence of audio in Chicago speech of Swami Vivekananda in 1893 because no audio recording invention exist the then. However I heard the same speech in voice of eminent radio announcer Swaminathan.
The first practical sound recording and reproduction device was the mechanical phonograph cylinder, invented by Thomas Edison in 1877. Movie mei kab audio aya isse audio kab invent huya tha yah pata nahi chalta.
First audio was recorded in 1860
Technology used in movie films were optical recording.
Magnetic wire recording from 1940s facilitated lengthy recordings..
In 1893, 2 minute wax cylinder was the maximum duration. Gramophone records had only one minute duration in 1893.
For recording, singer/speeker had to sing into the horn of the recording machine..loudly

Nothing special about it. If found good, but finding it does not mean Vivek vairagya bhakti! We already have Abhedanandaji's voice. That's more than ENOUGH.

In a book named Vishwaguru Vivekanand. I read that Swamiji's voice is kept well in Mysore Fort.

I was a bit Sceptical about the recently Circulating Audio ‘ of late Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago Speech.
But then , I thought , with the help of Todays’ Advanced Technology as AI , May be it is possible to Retrieve his Original Speech’ in Chicago , without any Static’
