In your prime you didn't have to use tricks, Roberto. Keep your arms relaxed beside your body an d sing the arioso like it's written by the composer, please.
It is quite curious that you criticize Roberto's posture during a rehearsal, while when other artists, like Maria Callas for example (watch the video Live! Norma Casta Diva), stand like this even during performances, it doesn't bother anyone and it's even considered brilliant.
As for the arioso, you would do better not to go down that path, because what Roberto is singing is indeed written by the composer. He makes a mix of the two variations marked "Oppure" which designates an open option left by the composer for the performer to choose. The note is definitely written. I can’t show you the score here, but have a look and you will see.
