    The advice to say that you're new can't be understated. I do it whenever im trying a new class or even a new spec. The single best thing you can do to have a good time in ANY dungeon not even just keys is to get the group talking early. Say hi, mention if youre trying something new and youre learning, ask how their day is whatever. Once you break that mental barrier that people have going into a dungeon it reminds them that theyre playing with real people and it drastically improves the vibes 99% of the time.

    Easy way to get into tanking.. play a warrior, never get invited as dps.. start prot, realize it's sick and spam keys as prot warrior.

    You want to consistently time high keys? Start tanking them yourself. Being a tank let's you be picky about groups and players, and fill up your own keys fast. A good tank in my opinion is the make or break of a timed key. Sure there are healing checks and dps requirements, but if you pull well, and have a great route, success goes up MASSIVELY.

      Its very much true, I took a break from tanking in the last season and mained dps again. Oh boy did my succesrate drop whenever i was not tanking. It really sometimes felt like the succes of the dungeon was just a coinflip. Being back on tanking its truely amazing how much influence you have on the run and your overall succesrate!

    Tanking is nice, studying the routes and how to stay alive is part of the process from tanking. Currently gearing my prot pala and having a good time this expansion. Healing is harder than tanking imo because you need to be more proactive to keep your party alive. I love tanking and healing to be honest but tanking syncs with me more haha. Great btw and keep up with content ❤

    I've normally played outlaw rogue through most of the dungeon content. That said, I actually main a blood DK, and I think the only point of apprehension I have is not really having a route planned out. I'm used to riding the coattails of the tank, and I tend to get lost in unfamiliar dungeons rather easily. I think it ultimately boils down to me not wanting to waste everybody else's time.

    Dude I did the same thing! This is the first season where I just started with my tank rather than dps and I’m 2600io now. Tanked a few +20’s (first time ever) and I couldn’t be having a better time! What you said made it so much easier; going through the new dungeons on heroic mode and getting a feel for the route, pulls, where I could LoS and so on. Familiarize yourself with the run before the season drops really helps.
    Also, you HAVE to get outside your comfort zone. If you’re pulling small and never having to use any CDs, you’re not learning. Make those double/triple pulls that force you to use your defensives. You’ll gain more confidence knowing what you can and can’t do.

    This video came at a right point of time. Thank you, pal! I started tanking on my DH when LFR Amirdrassil wings opened. On the first attempt of Smolderon I got freaked out, even that I had read all the tactics, watched videos with explanations and have DBM shouting at me XD But second attempt and later ones were easier. Now I'm not that much afraid of and want to try keys also.

      DBM is really bad on that fight for tanks. When I was using it it was telling me to taunt before I was supposed to. I ended up switching to BW and a tank weak aura and I don't have issues any more.

    I tried to get the Bloodthirsty title in my tank gear when everyone else was wearing resilience gear. I got to 88,000 killing blows before I gave up. What it taught me, however, was to use my damage mitigation and self heals, as well as my burst dps and cc's. And because of this, I was able to start soloing current dungeons. At the end, I was one of the top three rated tanks for much of WotLK. You can follow a similar arc and you will do just fine.

    The problem with mistakes as a tank is knowing where you did a mistake, for example i started low keys +2/+4 and then +10/+15 and it went very well but i did not know what mistakes i made and im sure i did. By the way i love your opinions and it aligns perfect with what i think and more people need to see this video.

    Nice video. I advice everyone to play every role in the game at least for a bit. Tanking S2 helps me a lot with healing and vice versa. And knowing where DPS take the hardest hits from my healing exp. helps a lot to avoid avoidable dmg as DPS.

Watched guide and gameplay video so that i can mentally prepare myself for all the deaths and the raging from other players. Started with a 2 making my own groups and I've gotten myself all the way to 15s all while making my own group and dying a few times lol. Its been very enjoyable and I'm glad i started to play it. Much love bro just started wow a few months back and wanted to get into tanking, really enjoying it so far even though I struggle getting past the 13s with a high enough ilvl I’m learning a ton and appreciate your vids.
    Do you have any tips when it comes to learning the routes and getting the % down?

    • @Nutzy5840
      @Nutzy5840  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Wow man only played for a few months and already tanking 10+s? Probs to you! What is your ilvl? Because honestly for the most parts your survivability comes for good use of your cooldowns
      Also for routes, I already have a few videoes up going through some of the different dungeons and my route to them but I use the addon mythic dungeon tool wherein i can select all the different packs and see how much % i would need. But for most of the dungeons, pressing w and just going straight though them should give you enough count. Hope that helps and thanks for the comment

    Yes tanking has alot of anxiety, I've been a tank pretty much main spec since vanilla and if there's anything I can say to help people is to play with others you enjoy playing with. I.E. friends and guildies, less pressure and more constructive feedback when something goes wrong. Things will go wrong, you will overpull sometimes but understand that it's just you getting more comfortable and confident in your role. Not every death is your fault, people do stand in bad stuff, so don't get frustrated if you see someone die.

    When i started tanking on my pally it was an eye opening experience i have a hard time to get away from. Every season i go back to my prot pally.
    You can single handedly carry a key with one or two sub par players.
    The impact you have on the succsess is something that i cant find on any other character.
    Healer not coping, you got extra heals, loh, blessings. Alot of ways to keep party alive.
    Dps not optimal, you can spec for pretty good aoe dps as tank. And save time.

  • @derangedhermit7981
    @derangedhermit7981 Před 5 měsíci +2

    I had an odd journey to becoming a tank.
    In Wrath I tried tanking for VoA and didn't know how to tank swap correctly as I didn't use DBM at the time and had no idea how to track co-tanks debuffs. I was promptly removed and I didn't tank for groups again for awhile. But I love gathering up large groups of enemies and seeing if I can survive so I eventually joined started tanking dungeons. This went badly, with people pulling threat and getting one shot or people just attempting to pull for me, blowing all my defensive's when I hit 75% health, not knowing were I was going. It got better but it was a really slow process of me running first as dps than trying to imitate what other people did.
    Than I met a healer fried and he would play how low can you go where he would wait till I was in single digit health percent before healing me. This taught me how to roll defensives instead of panicking and blowing them all. By Legion I was doing M+ up to about a +10 but I would sweat every time I joined a key and really had to be talked into coming by a friend. There always seemed to be so much you had to know. And I still didn't tank raids at all.
    With BFA I switched to prot warrior and started working my way to +15s and watching more tanking content but I still always felt extremely uncomfortable and blamed any and all failures on myself for not being able to foresee it. I ended up finally finding a new guild that needed a tank and somehow ended up being raid lead which was odd given my extremely introverted nature (I mean my name is hermit.) I spent days studying fights so that I could explain them, worked on my UI so I could call everything out and tried to imitate some of the better leaders I'd seen over the years. I worked with new and returning players and taught them how to do low key and several of them ended up becoming fairly high M+ players who ended each season with 3K+. I didn't realize it at the time but despite the guild falling apart I had ended up being someone that others saw as dependable and knowledgeable and they would remember me in random pugs years later and we would reconnect.
    SL's saw me switching to VDH and I took a spot as an off tank but I managed to somehow get my first +20 done and than talked some friends into pushing to get all of our portals done. We managed to do it in the last two weeks of SL's but again I always felt like I was on the verge of dying and wasn't contributing. But I didn't really know how to get better and when I tried different things people seemed to get... grumpy.
    In DF I found I didn't like the VDH rework and I ended up playing my bear for the first time since cata and loved it. The expansion started as a mixed bag and I've been told everything from drink bleach to uninstall the game. It got so bad that I was thinking of quitting when a guildy ran the numbers and showed me that I was in the top 6% of players and in the top 6k of bears. It showed me that I needed to learn to take constructive criticism and apply it when and where I can but I need to learn to ignore people who want to pass the blame. I've pushed to a +22 and found a group that is more than willing to try off the wall stuff. Instead of waiting for a mistake to happen we go and try to make them deliberately (we call it limit testing.) Bolstering week on a +22? Why not try to pull the whole hall of alchemists after the second boss. We can CC and pop vortex right before they bolster and the evoker can rescue me and we can kite. The weird thing is it worked and we found a way to shave several minutes off the most difficult affix week by going out of our way to see if we can do it. We try things like this all the time now and I found instead of dreading runs I'm looking forward to just doing nutty stuff with friends instead.
    Ok well that ended up a lot bigger than I thought but I hope something in here helped someone out.

    Just like with anything new, you just need to get over yourself and get out of your comfort zone. Put group chat in its own window and leave it alone, pull like a maniac because that is effective limit testing, its best to start knowing and understanding what you cant do and why you shouldnt do it. You will get removed from groups, its best to not assume you didnt anything wrong because people get off on group kicking randoms and tanks are easy targets. Once you understand what your class is capable of and what pulls are optimal for you, you are now better than. 95% of tanks. If you dont like that search, tanking isnt for you, you gotta do this repeatedly due to key levels.

      And in the worst case where you are missing some, you Will just have to go back and kill a pack or two. The more you tank, the more you Will get it under control!

  • @celestielsigh
    @celestielsigh Před 5 měsíci

    A lot of tankxiety can be removed by simply doing some research and preparing BEFORE the dungeon. The only tanks I ever get pissed off at are the ones who walk blindly into a mythic+ or heroic raid and waste everyone elses time because they have no clue wtf they are doing.
    Want to tank but nervous about it? Look up the mechanics beforehand and ask questions. No reasonable person will ever be upset with someone who is clearly trying.
