I had a rescued Malamute, Vicky, she was the best dog, or rather the best cat. She was adorable with everyone, not a guard dog at all, even the opposite. And she had the knack to bring home all the cats she met on a walk. Despite her giant size, cats were attracted to her. When she was around kittens, she did not move, as she was afraid to crush them.
And she was very talkative, and expressive. Her favorite activity was hugs, hours of hugs.
She left us at the memorable age of 14, leaving only happy memories to all those who had the chance to know her. Well, maybe not the turtle of our neighbors, that she was bringing home regularly, to our great embarrassment. I miss her every day

He was the gentlest most loyal and intelligent dog I've ever owned (Going on 40 dogs over my 50 years). At the time we had 13 dogs ranging from German Shepherds, Yorkies, Labs and Nos was the biggest playmate they could have ever asked for. These dogs will always have a special place in the hearts of their owners.

I had one as a kid. My father sold our camper when we traveled north in and the guy who purchased the camper asked if we wanted her because he was traveling south. And she rarely warmed up to men but for some reason she liked my dad. He walked her around our 10 acres and she never left the property on her own. She was absolutely amazing. Never bit anyone but had a growl that was so low you could feel it in your bones. This kept anyone she didn’t care for at a safe distance. Some nights I would stay in the barn with her, the best pillow ever! Once after getting my drivers license I brought her to town with me, this is when I understood the real presence she had. The coffee shop I visited had many other dogs and dog owners. Every single dog sat or laid down when I went in. I came out of the cafe and realized that everyone was scared. She never growled or postured she literally just commanded the entire place. I quickly left with her and was later confronted that I shouldn’t have a wolf. I realized solo hiking was in our best interest. I never wanted her to feel that type of energy from any environment again. I learned so much from her. Best companion ever, at least for this wondering soul.

These beautiful, gentle giants were also used by the ancient Malamute peoples as babysitters. Their naturally patient, nurturing and protective nature meant that they would be allowed to sleep with the children and babies to keep them warm and safe during the below freezing night temperatures. Big loveable cuddle bears, and the perfect companion if you have the space!

We had a big Malamute named Manuka that we rescued from the pound when he was 6. He was the complete opposite to what what is described. He was so gentle and loved all animals and people especially kids. He got on very well with our Husky rescue dog Nikita who is now 9 but still thinks she is 1 and was a great mentor to our German Shepherd Mieke who we lost to cancer last year at only 8. Manuka was very sad to loose Meike and was in failing health himself. We decided to get another German Shepherd puppy and Manuka was so happy to have a new friend to watch and protect from our overactive Husky. We were so happy we gave him the joy of a puppy as we had to have him put to sleep not long after. Our new Shepherd Elka has settled in very well with our naughty Husky and they are never apart.

Be careful what you wish for. I own Pyrenean Mastiffs (sheep guardians in the Pyrenees mountains) which are a bit thicker coated and weigh about 200-250 pounds. I spend all of EVERY evening brushing, clipping, foot care, and when they blow their coats we have to take them into the yard with a blower. Looks like a snowstorm afterward but it's torture for us and them to try and rake it out. Long haired, double coated dogs are literally a full time job and you must do it to keep their skin healthy. Here is a link to PMs to give you an idea of what they look like and the work involved in keeping them clean and their coats healthy. pyreneanmastiff.com/

Thank you for a great collection and contribution of introductory videos for various dog breeds. I have viewed several of your videos before commenting and subscribing to your channel. I must confess that you certainly provide a great collection of information for each breed, as well as providing a candid list of pros and cons for each breed. It is certainly going to save a lot of animals being unitized because first time dog owners just fall in love with the cute and fuzzy faces of the dogs/puppies without spending any time to research the characteristics of each breed before accepting the responsibility of new addition to their family for the next 10-15 years. I've been a animal lover since I was 3 years old and now I am 65+ years with adopting 7 different breeds of dogs through out my life, so I really appreciate and applaud your efforts and contributions to CZcams community. Thank you and God bless. Keep up this great work and keep these great videos coming.

Tom Knott - exactly. A great big old soppy cuddle bear of a dog is so much better than one of those yappy rodent ankle biters. If it bounces when it barks, it's not a dog!
My friend has a Newfie - a big old russet coloured soppy called Rusty. Whenever I visit, all i have to do is give him a quick cuddle in greeting. He loves the attention so much, he pins me down on the sofa and I can't move. He gets a cuddle from everyone else, but I seem to be his favourite. He just lollops on top of me with those huge paws inches from my face, looking at me with that goofy expression, and everyone just falls about in hysterics. Such comedians.

Total butterball, but between his mass and the fluff it was truly a sight to behold. That one's a bit smaller, I would guess 140-160. Really hard to guess without knowing how big his mom is

I have an Alaskan Malamute! He will be 1 on Jan 17th, he already weighs around 90 lbs. 😂 they are amazing, but they are very big. I just realized the other day that he is bigger than my aunts German shepherd. 😱 bathing him is such a pain! But according to other Malamute owners, they don't need to be bathed too much. And u have to get them completely dry after baths or it will cause hotspots. Another thing I have realized is Malamutes will get bored of their food, I am constantly switching his food because sometimes he just doesn't want to eat it. 😒 If you want a Malamute make sure you do your research. They require a lot of attention.

Hi there. Don’t bother switching your Mals food around. That can be disruptive to their digestive system. Mals are not like other breeds, they are not super interested in food-it’s survival not a love (or obsession!lol) like other breeds. Because of their history they are extremely efficient in their use of calories and nutrients. So I promise you he won’t starve, he’ll eat when it suits him, it bothers you more than it does him!! Cheers!

What a sight to see them running! Our family dog was a Malamute. He lived till he was twelve. He was hands down the most perfect dog in the world! He was such a gorgeous little puppy! So fluffy, so soft! Such giant paws! The things they say about the breed just aren't true(Malamutes are dangerous, Malamutes don't like other dogs, etc.) Our dog was a dedicated family member and loved us all. If he was introduced to visitors, he was great. He never threatened or bit anyone. He had several dog friends that used to come to play. He got along perfectly with our cats. I LOVE how they talk with you, and argue with you(but they obey in the end). I love the sweet howling when the noon whistle blows and when there are ambulances, etc. No negatives. They shed the coat all at once, so there isn't any shedding year round like with short hair dogs. We shaved ours in summer so he'd be more comfortable. We left the hair in a pile in the back yard, and all the birds nests were lined in his beautiful fur. I miss him. If you get one, teach him to behave when a puppy. Important with any large breed.

My mom and dad had an Alasksn Malsmute he was the most beautiful dog I. Ever saw, He was big, white and gray. He got a tumor and was operated on to take it out, he would walk so slow. I. Would walk him in my parents big back yard when I. Would stop he would look at me like saying, WHY ARE WE STOPPING. I. Still think of him, a beautiful dog, GOD.S CREATURES.
