    Dear viewers,
    we would like to clarify that our guest, Trinidad Fernandez, has been incorrectly introduced as a member of the International Climate Initiative at the German Environment Ministry. In fact, she is the Head of Urban Economy Innovation at Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO in Stuttgart, Germany. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

    I have an old friend who has a 2,000 sq/ft home where it gets hot in the summer and decades ago he planted appropriate trees for shade. He has never installed A/C and even on the hottest days(35 C +) it always stays comfortably cool. To this day it still amazes me how well this works.

    Maby not build a city out of stone, glass and concrete. Plant more trees / shading.
    even solarpanels that can cover shading might be nice. As in making a roof

    • @Sekir80
      @Sekir80 Před rokem +1

      That's the reason I reject solar roof tiles. If I have a panel, say, 10 cm above my roof, it will shade it, hence the roof itself would be cooler.

    Every home and business should install a rain water collection and storage system along with solar panels.
    Even in areas where rain is infrequent it is crazy to waste the little rain that does fall and waste it.
    We need to stop planting green lawns and switch to local native plantings around homes.
    It is crazy to plant lawns and build golf courses in dry desert areas. We waste too much water and electricity.

      It's easy to say every home should install solar but solar is expensive and not every home can afford it.

    Don't use so many ACs... In hospitals and similar institutions, yes. Everywhere else not. ACs are heating up the streets even more... And even more Electricity goes to waste, just so that people can freeze in their homes. As many do, instead of setting the temperature a little under the outside, they set it up under 20°C. Now imagine the power draw when the AC has to cool the difference of 15 degrees? And multiply it by the number of ACs in the city...

    Isn't the real problem with heat waves the agriculture, the food production? Or are plants more heat resistant? Somehow, I don't think so.

    • @kinngrimm
      @kinngrimm Před rokem

      Depends on the plants i would guess and within which stage the heatwave takes affect. So is it something that likes a lot of sun or does rather prefers a bit of shadow. How much water does the plant needs and is that affected due to the heatwaves. If it is right at the start when the seed it planted, when the seed first spreads, to late stage when the fruits developing ... . Generally speaking, the hotter they become, beyond certain spectras within wich the plants develop optimally, then less gains can be produced and sold by the farmers. Sofar we do have overproduction in terms of food in the past decades, but especially in wealthy countries also with lots of food waste which to me sounds like an oxymoron.
      Last year though in asia, especially China, the heatwave and drought did criple food production. Now the Ukrain war is also relevant in that aspect. As doesn't matter how much is produced, if it can not get shiped to where it is needed.

    I feel like im in another world. This year June was the coldest June on record for my state and it was hot through nearly all of July but the past few days feel relatively cool. The previous years have all been scorching hot all the way back in May. Sometimes as early as March. This has definitely been the coldest Spring and Summer I ever had personally.
    Also all the concrete, glass, and metal makes everything so hot. Parking lots here in the states are terrible. Areas with vegetables feel significantly better but way to many bugs. Being surrounded by vegetation and on concrete is normally the best bet in my opinion.
    We humans have dealt with huge climate changes over our entire history. In the past with significantly less knowledge and ability to survive such shifts. It wont be fun but humans will het through this. Currently I think we need to change the way we think. Dress for the environment, drinks lots of water, build better buildings. Relying so much on Air Conditioning and not investing into buildings that can self regulate to a extenet seems like a waste. Society will not collapse because of Global Warming like some people say.
