  • Crawling with my 1998 jeep Cherokee xj. Washington state. My jeep is on a 4.5 inch rough country x series lift kit with a few other upgrades. Check out my other videos for everything I have done to my jeep. I picked up a new set of dick Cepek mud country tires (33s). The white jeep in this video is on the same lift and same tires! Although there were parts of the trail that he was not able to finish. Please leave questions and comments below! Like the video if you enjoyed it (more on the way!)

    The way the Cherokee XJ tackles those obstacles is both thrilling and inspiring. Jeep got it right with this one

    Nice vid guys! when you winch though you should use a strap around the tree not just your winch cable so you dont damage the trees many wheeling spots get closed to the public because of damage to the nature

    This is a boreing dirt road. We live above the snowline in the NE Washington mountains. A primative road crosses the bottom corner of our nearly 200 acres. We climb imediately steep just inside the gate and climb 1840 feet in 3/4 mile with spookey 600 foot drops into a sheer drop canyon at a couple squirrelly turns on the way to our second gate drive to our cabin or another 3/4 mile up over nasty boulders and show melt run off gullies to our top forty where our barn and horse quarters and loafing shed by the corals where our tractors and equipment is. Only 400 ft elevation more from middlegate. Its a climbing trail. Just a country road in the mountains. I'm 80 yrs old and wife is 70. She drives 2 round trips a day at down into the valley where she works at the hospital in a 900 population village. Everything we drive is four wheel drive built for the trail lifted on 33" to 36' SuperSwamper I Rok rock crawlers. Also have 6 wheel track drive Amphib.You guys are cruising a wet dirt road in town SUVs. Most city people who ever come up here with us swear they will never be back. and scream steady all the way up.😂😂 Your toys wouldn't make the climb on first grade at the bottom. Stay on the pavement.😅😅 Dandahermit. ( And u should try it in the winter in deep snow on ice!!😂😂

    • @JeepWA
      @JeepWA  Před 6 lety

      Thank you Gary! they definitely are on my list. although the challenge of open diffs I truly enjoyed. takes more skill and awareness. This next build will be locked undoubtedly. As for that tire.. luckily never had to use it.. hahaha good point though, wouldn't be very fun.

    • @onefastcyclist
      @onefastcyclist Před 6 lety

      Wouldn't be fun - don't you like to see your chiropractor? I broke down and added a Timken rear bumper and tire swing to carry my spare, and so far it's performing well. However, I'm running open diffs to and even on moderate trails throwing a switch to lock the rear axel would be a great addition to my rig - now where to put that needed compressor...

    • @JeepWA
      @JeepWA  Před 6 lety

      hahaha good ole chiropractor! good idea on the swing out carrier.. open diffs are fun right?? but yes a quick push button switch when you need it would be bliss. if you don't care for AC just use that as your compressor :) simple and easy!

  • @nicro129
    @nicro129 Před 9 lety +1

    Awesome!!! I have a 98 XJ as well and plan on putting on the same lift in a couple months.This was a great inspiration for me wanting to do it even more! When you put on the lift did you put on a new Rear CV Drive Shaft with a slip yoke eliminator?

    • @JeepWA
      @JeepWA  Před 9 lety

      I actually did not, I just installed the lift and thats it. I have been lucky enough to not need the cv drive-shaft or SYE.
      Its definitely a great lift to start off with, especially if you are on a budget. I am in the process of putting a dana 44 under the rear end, then gonna get new gears and eventually a long arm lift

    • @nicro129
      @nicro129 Před 9 lety

      Nice, I think I will give it a try without the new drive shaft and SYE at first and see how it does. Also your muffler system was way louder than the white one. Did you cut it after the cat or is it aftermarket?

    • @JeepWA
      @JeepWA  Před 9 lety

      We both cut off our exhaust and left the cat on. ALTHOUGH, my cat is blown out... Meaning the honeycomb looking stuff inside of it came out. Which makes it louder. You can blow out the car by shoving a rod or something into it to break the stuff inside. It will come out when you drive after that

    Are you wheeling anywhere near that part of the State ? 4.0 or larger in the Cherokee's ?
    What brand Winches are you sporting ? Which work better, skinny or wide tread tires in your State's mud conditions ? How is the C.B. reception with Whip Antenna's or at least a 4 1/2' Monkey Works Antenna ? What is the Cell-Phone-Reception like in your area that you are Wheeling in in this video ? Where is the nearest Gas Station to this area and how far away is it ? And...finally, what kind of camera was used to shoot this video ?
    The quality must be pretty good since it stays in focus and isn't as shaky as Don Knots.
    Kudo's to the Cameraman and or Spotters, great job, and thank you for posting this !

      Thomas! I am so sorry not to have gotten a reply to you faster. Its my pleasure, thanks for the appreciation.
      There are a few amazing places to wheel here in Washington. Liberty, Naches Trail, Evans creek, Elbe hills, Tahuya, just to list a few.
      Cherokees typically had the 4.0 yes. inline 6 cyl.
      im currently in the process of getting new site and brands, so nothing at the current moment.
      Tire wise, I haven't had the opportunity to test the range of tires. for muddy conditions definitely some beefy aggressive tread. there are always the pros and cons for width, find your specialty. we all drive different.
      CB has been pretty good, don't worry about a few miles, careful in the ridges, not sure how great that is in those areas.
      Cell service seems to be best with Verizon, I have usually had great service. but this spot is not very "deep" so hitting the mountains will be more spotty.
      For this specific area, gas is everywhere.
      I filmed this with my iPhone6. Thank you for the Kudos! again, my pleasure!

    • @JeepWA
      @JeepWA  Před 9 lety

      Yes they will fit, the white Cherokee in this video had stock flares with 33s. ALTHOUGH he does go through quite a lot of rubbing when turning or flex. Usually they recommend 32s for a 4.5" lift and stock flares. I personally recommend the 33s and trim the flares a bit

    • @JeepWA
      @JeepWA  Před 9 lety +1

      Nope, never have. I live in Washington and the law says no modifying muffler to make it louder. But I have never been harassed about it, I've been pulled over for mud flaps and left my jeep running as he talked to me, he didn't mention anything. Also I think the muffler laws are more targeted at ricers

    • @JeepWA
      @JeepWA  Před 9 lety

      Krystal M. Livinsgton So basically the difference is that with the 4.5 lift you can fit 33 inch tires. and it overall looks better i would say! With the 3.5 lift i think you can only fit 31 inch tires.

    on my front axle the passenger tire spins only,when stuck is that strange its 97

    • @JeepWA
      @JeepWA  Před 9 lety

      ***** no its not strange, because you have an open differential and the power is split 50-50 to each tire, but if one tire begins to spin easily, then the motor thinks it doesnt need to produce much torque and therefor the tire that requires less torque to spin will be the only one spinning. which is why the other tire isnt spinning. This is why people install lockers, lockers make it so that even if one tire is in the air and the other is jammed into the ground, they both spin at the same. BUT it could also be a broken axle. i'd need more info to know for a fact.
