just a quick tip.. If you're washing your hands after handling fish, always wash them in cold water.. Hot water opens your paws and allows the smell to penetrate your skin..

Next to my sink i got a 25L bucket and went to asian supermarket and found a large plastic colander to put over the bucket so all the guts and crap go in that.
The juice that strains goes in for fertiliser and the guts get churned in a mincer with dry bread for burley for next trip.
Sometimes easier to freeze the guts for an hour or so so it gets chopped up easier.
The mincer is just one of those hand turning ones that clamps on to the edge of a table

Extra top tip. Sink strainer for solids and get yourself a squeegee so that you can quickly remove waste, blood, scales etc

I really like your setup. Not looking to ruffle any feathers with stanlessflatpack, but just a money saving tip, especially since commercial kitchen equipment is notoriously expensive. I work for a demolition company, and every time we gut a restaurant kitchen (or whole building demo), we literally just separate the stainless and scrap them. One can conceivably call their local demo guy, and find out if any restaurant jobs are coming up. The flip side is they get rid of the stainless for pennies on the dollar.
Also if you're only using primarily for fish cleaning, maybe skip the copper and go with pvc pipes to save a few bucks.

Raise the chopping board on the nearest edge when not in use. Stops water from sitting at & under the board (stops bacteria & mould from growing in that area). 5-10mm is plenty.

Hey Mark, consider adding an "insinkerator" waste disposal unit to the sink. You can mulch up your frames and guts, left over bait etc, into paste, and use it in your garden, or freeze it and use it in your berley pots :)

Really nice setup. I'm looking to set one up myself shortly. I recommend a $2 squeegie from Bunnings, makes keeping the cutting board cleaner. I also bring back 15 litre container of sea water to rinse my fillets in. You could build a shelf above the sink and just use gravity to rinse your fillets in the sink.

You don’t go half way on anything! I guessing that the next “improvement will be a screened enclosure to keep the bugs away while you’re cleaning. I’m jealous!

the best table quality fillets use ice cold clean seawater, helps bring the fillet temperature back down very quickly after filleting as well. Fillet, wash, drip dry in fridge for few hrs then cryovac . I usually fill up a 20ltr drum on the run back to ramp.

    • @turbostyler

@@karlfranks6827 Fillets are never meant to get wet. They should be perfectly dry no seawater nor freshwater should be on them as the water introduces bacteria.

I enjoy both your channels! I’m not a fisherman myself, but your videos on this channel make it look tempting to start. I enjoyed that photo of you in the military as a young man. I love military history and that was a nice little thing you threw in!

Not too much of a issue outside I guess but the spluttering hot water system is caused by a buildup of hydrogen gas. This happens when the hot water system isn’t used for a while the sacrificial anode emits hydrogen as it corrodes. Seen a few washing machines explode after home owners return from holiday and put on a load of washing. Boom
    Nice setup

  • @turbostyler

Great setup Mark. I have pretty much the exact same setup but inside my shed. I had considered outside but I didn't want to deal with mozzies, sun, and I can fillet at night. I don't use the water much at all inside and I collect all the guts and scales and put them in a bag which I freeze then chuck in the bin on bin day. How do you go with bush rats around the filleting table? You'll probably find the more you fillet the more they'll start to hang around.

Howdy - couple of things here (my opinions and you know about Arseholes and opinions right) FWIW - That Flatty was a big girl - anything over 60cm is a female. Law in Qld is a slot 40-70cm so you can keep it but the smaller ones taste a lot better. Second thing is chlorinated water to wash fish is not great - I use salt water that I bring home. Keep up the good work.
