Aerial footage of Midsummer Boulevard in Milton Keynes in 1985 from the shopping centre down to the railway station, taken from the Open University production 'Goodbye Baby Jane'.
MK reminds me of those Soviet Union cities. Utilitarian Modern functional Looks clean and tidy.i think expanding it ever larger probably ruined the atmosphere of the town.ive never been there myself but thats the impression i have,
Is that the old information centre/bubble still (first appears at 10 seconds in, directly below the 'OO" in the Goodbye Baby Jane? title)? I can remember going to an inflatable information centre when all that seemed to exist was this inflated info centre and the facade of the shopping centre.
I love mk, the station area was perfect just the way it was in this video, the council have ruined it now and are doing their best to destroy the rest of mk.
@@georgedowns4034 they put the bus stops right infront of it and took away the train, also the trees have gone. and we have bike sheds suck in the middle. its just an eye sore now.
@@drtydawg73 there's the car park round the back though which is big enough and I kinda find the station blending into the building pretty unique and the station itself isn't really ugly. I guess I see what you mean about the bus area though...
@@georgedowns4034 it just feels like youre walking out into london or something when you come out the station now, where as it used to be like you were walking out into a nice open country type area with fresh air and freedom. i remember coming up from london when i was 18 thinking this was the most awesome place on the earth. its just the same as any other over crowded, noisy and busy town now. :-(
Milton Keynes looked all shiny and new
I remember arriving at the train station and stepping out into "nothing"...
Me too. It was May 1982, the train was crowded because Queen were playing at The Bowl. I turned the wrong way and found myself in Loughton!
What year was this? In the 80s?
I moved to MK in 1986 and I am still here, there is no other place like it.
Born and raised there. I don’t live there today but I have always loved it and always will.
20 years for me. Now gladly no longer live there. It's a degrading suburban cultureless s**thole
That blue beetle was nearly t-boned!
Agreed - people still don't know how to handle roundabouts so nothing has changed there
Looks a lot nicer back then with open spaces.
Stephen Hicks yep, would of wanted to see it:/
Still an excellent city!
it was a much better place back then
It's just so clean, now I've gotta clean this fucker everyday
The dad seemed like he wanted to change the subject quickly when they were talking about that Suzie girl. I think he was covering something up!
haha
Gfresh844 He got her pregnant!
His bit on the side lol

Now look at the place😔
No! MK is awesome!
1:05 - Lucky not to hit that old Beetle on the roundabout!

Emma Lyse Yet it is!!, this video is basically how I remember MK, I grew up there in the 70`s........
The bubble is long gone - that’s where the Church is now. It hasn’t been there for almost 30 years.
the dad sounds like David Mitchell 😂
what was that from?
wow remember how it used to be but that's all changed :(

In what way? The station is STILL awesome...

I saw Back To The Future starring Michael J Fox in the Point cinema in December 1985 and it cost me just 95p.😲🎥🎬
Why dad talk through his nose? Why ‘young’ daughter sound like 28 year old?
When will they get rid of the point.
Never, hopefully.
@@andyc6542Unfortunately soon. I saw a planning application to demolish it the other day. Sad times.
