I came to live in Milton Keynes in the summer of 1982. I lived in the same road where they filmed the children on bikes. Fantastic memories I remember the pathway and bridge and lots of red balloons!
i was only 13 yr old wen i got picked 4 the leading roll best time of my life, and 2 let my balloon go 1st out of 1000's of kids was the best feeling it took all day 2 shoot that part. the advert took us 2 weeks 2 make.,the producer was lance hutchins and i am so plzed that i now know who done the music, and can i get an album plz michael thx.
Milton Keynes was a fantastic place to live once. Now it’s overpopulated, the redways are full of crap and rats and most of the estates are now s**tholes. Glad I left when I did! It’s happened in a lot of our cities and towns. It’s not just Milton Keynes. Very sad.
that's a great question! but unfortunately not yet -- we're hoping to put an album together consisting of these types of short pieces... keep in touch with mnrecords through the web site and we'll hopefully have some news next year -- in the mean time we are releasing a new series of Chamber Music in October 2012.
Can't stand Michael Nyman. And the advert chills, as it did then. It's a bit THX and a bit Logan's Run with a little bit of Brazil and Sleeper. Homogeny, is the key. 'You too can be just another corpuscle, in a river of corpuscles, en route to the heart, of Milton Keynes.' That's what it did for me. It chilled me, as a weeish person. And the Jonny-come-lately Phillip Glass music, only made me detest it more. It was derided among the young. We all hated it. The advert was a running joke, among teenagers. Newtown duplicates, stamped across once nuanced Britain. Repulsive. I suppose you could do it with a thousand Poundburys and that would be even more disgusting. Mock organic village growth, courtesy of the big-eared, mosque-building buffoon, who would be king. Live long, Liz! Now to poke my ears, eyes and well, we'll see about the rest.

This was a truly iconic advert of the 1970s, well done my friend and I hope you are doing well 🙏🏼
Markyb I love you so much this a good song these days
My family and I moved to MK in December 1982 and moved back to London in January 1987 I was at the great balloon race in 1984.
It’s an entire movie in one advertisement 🎈
I used to sell flowers on the roadside. In Milton Keynes back in the 80s!!
I remember this ad from when I was about 10 years old.
1:55 "Floating on the summer sky, 99 red balloons go by"
A great advert, with Michael Nyman at his best.

All cities used to be like Milton Keynes - and adverts used to be like this. Verbum sapienti sat est.

Lovely advert. Thanks for the u/l.
Really like the music and the advert. Is this music available on MN Records?
What year did this tv ad come out ?
The big question is, is that me @1:36 and @1:44, so long ago but I remember that shirt and that looks like me back then...
Goodness, how ignorant were people in those days.
Eh?
