- FA-50 Fighting Eagle light combat aircraft in Republic of Korea Air Force service.
FA-50 is a dedicated light combat variant of the T-50 Golden Eagle advanced trainer developed by Korea Aerospace Industries. ROKAF currently operates 60 FA-50 for close air support and scramble roles. Additional FA-50s are oprated by several foreign nations.

Not absolutely. Rather is a more viable replacement for countries operating other old models like the A-37 Dragonfly, the Czechoslovak Aero L-39 or the spanish CASA C-101. The ideal replacement for the F-5 Tiger as a multirole fighter is the F-16. And the ill-fated F-20 Tigershark.

@@kordog101 Sadly it was cancelled in favor of the KF-21. If the F-50 go into development and production, it would’ve had 80% of the abilities and performance of an F-16, but costing far less.

This would be an ideal fit for the Irish Air Corps. Light multi-role fighter and an advanced trainer in one package. Seen as we haven't operated combat jets for over 20 years, the FA-50 would be a very good way to bring modern air combat capabilities to the Air Corps for a fraction of the cost of a lot of modern fighters.
If we had a larger budget then the Saab Gripen would be the way to go but the FA-50 is still in my opinion an ideal aircraft for Ireland. Hopefully following the Irish commission on the Defence Forces report, a recommendation for such aircraft is included and the FA-50EI variant will be flying in Irish skies in the near future!
(The "EI" in FA-50EI comes from the word "Éire" which is the Gaelic name for Ireland)
Philippines used this as an air support for insurgency and at the same time, to train the pilots for the incoming fighter jets that the country will receive. It served its purpose on air supports during Marawi siege against ISIS and it performed very well. So I agree with your opinion.
these are training planes ... they only pass the exam in Korea, because North Korea has machines such as SU-22 or Mig -21 there and I will emphasize immediately that the old Russian SU-22 has parameters much better than the FA-50 ... @@raj-hf4wbBoth plane different category. tejas is single seated, act like 4-4.5 gen light air multirole fighter. while fa-50 is 2 seated 4-4.5 gen aircraft, perfect for light multirole fighter & advance training aircraft. If the country does not operate any modern 4-4.5 generation fighter for a long time like Ireland. So it will need a platform like FA-50 to train their pilots and after that buying either Tejas, JF-17, saab gripen, rafale, F-16, F-15, F-35 etc..etc. You dont want your tejas keep getting crash on the ground because the pilot not experience enough to operate 4-4.5 gen fighter.

FA 50 was first used in bombarding abu Sayyaf positiins in basilan and sulo. Mothns before the marawi seige.

I like how the first maverick hit the ship main deck, but the second hit short of the stern and impacted on the water. Guess that is the difference between AGM and AShM, no radar altimeter to allow sea skimming and increase likelihood of a waterline impact.

I live near the airport here in davao city mindanao and my god these things are loud as hell. Would shake our house with the roar of the engine. Sometimes they fly these at 2 am and almost gave me a heart attack!

Chris vladizkomonov FA50 performance was just ordinary. It was doing bombing sorties which a WWII Japanese Mitsubishi zero can also do. It should fly into an area defended by S300 and let' s see if it can get out alive or fight an Indian MiG21 or Chinese SU27.
silent watcher FA-50 is more advanced than MiG-21, MiG-21 is a subsonic jet while FA-50 is supersonic. FA-50 can also be equipped with a sniper targeting pod so FA-50 beats MiG-21 but FA-50 vs Sukhoi SU-27? Well if you’re lucky enough to beat a SU-27 MRF with an FA-50 light fighter :>

@@bakaweiner6956 the FA-50PH is equipped with ELTA EL/M 2032 radar which is BVR capable but the aircraft needs to some upgrades first in order to carry BVR capable missiles.And according to local defense pages here in the Philippines only 4 FA-50s are capable of carrying BVR missiles while the rest are still waiting for upgrades.

This is a good interim light fighter.
People ask why buy these inferior jets but these light fighters are imperative after achieving air superiority. Cheaper to operate and easy to maintain, but still capable in A2A and A2G.
A10 are better CAS but they're slow. If you need support quick, these will get there faster than A10.

The Irish Air Corps has expressed a need to purchase fighters to counter the increase in Russian intrusions into our airspace the FA-50 would be a perfect choice.
Exactly I'm from Dublin 🇮🇪 and we should buy 24 of them in my opinion not 8 24× 50 million per unit is 1.2 billion euro and spread the cost over 10 years with South Korea 120 million per year but we will have to ask the US 🇺🇸 for permission as some of the avionics and components are made by Lockheed Martin so the Irish lobby will have to go to work there

It's was Aquino administration who purchased 11 fa50, duterte administration stopped it and cancelled delivery so only 3 or 4 was delivered. Duterte admin wanted boats instead.

The reason it is similar to the F-16 is because it was co-developed with Lockheed Martin. In fact, Lockheed Martin has a 13% stake in T-50
