Placing two new structures on our modelrailroad layout!

- In this video we place a structure on the layout that we built in a previous video and we also place a second structure on the layout that is new. We also make some concrete foundations for some structures. Hope you enjoy the video and happy modeling everyone!!!

I’ve always felt structures are the funist part of model railroading. Even as an eight year old both Karyn and I would build small structures just to lay them out into a village. And move them around. And add to and take away. It’s still the most fun.

Great video Jason. You said you didn’t accomplish much,,,,,wrong. You gave us all great insight and knowledge on preparing the layout. I wish I had school teachers that explained and showed how like you do. School would have been fun. I have several blank areas on my layout and I’m stumped on what to do. But now I have a game plan and a better idea on how to proceed. Thanks a bunch Jason.

Hi ya Jason. I lost this episode. I had to do some excavation through my subscriptions to relocate it. Lol. I like the new higher camera angle during your introduction. It shows off your entire layout better. Magnificent buildings as always. You should run a contest the next time you are closing in on a new subscriber milestone. The entrants can guess how many structures are on your layout. The closest guess wins something. Lol. The efforts in repositioning the buildings was interesting. Always entertaining. Thanks. You mentioned, in a previous video, constructing all your buildings ahead of time so you can decide where to place them. At that time I had a pile of unmade buildings and got right into them. Just as well, as some proved to be not what I thought they were going to be. They are currently donating their "bones" to support new shells I'm making myself! Thanks for all your inspiration.

Jason your insight for planning, then moving structures to fit into overall layout is amazing.
Certainly not afraid to cut out for better fit of building plus two steps ahead of what will fill around those structures. Amazing. Great eye level camera viewing. Train camera is an excellent idea for viewing background buildings.. “ Let’s get to it along with Happy Modeling” indeed..🎶✌️☕️☕️
Looking good! The bait shop really fits well in its new home. I'm a little less convinced about the building it swapped places with, though; to me it feels like that wedge-shape really wants a reason to exist, and the spot that it's in is wedge-shaped in the other direction at a different angle so it just feels discordant.
I'm looking forward to when you are going to work on the scenery. But I guess there will be some more buildings to be built. 🏚🏠🏢🏣🏦🏰
Great technique on building the foundations, can you do a video covering how to do landscaping around the builds.

Fabulous insights, every little bit helps, on any layout, especially when allowing glue or paint to set, it's so easy to jump ahead of yourself as I try not to do at every step and sometimes totally fail. Thanks for sharing 🚂

Great work as always. One suggestion I'll throw out there as far as the matte board, as well as cutting out a piece for the foundation, to "lock" the building in place, I'll cut a piece that fits fairly tight inside the building, right at the bottom -- like a floor, and glue THAT to the foundation. None of it is glued to the building itself, so the building can still be moved if necessary for cleaning, more detailing, etc. When you go to reinstall the building, the foundation will have that slightly raised part to keep it exactly where it's supposed to be.
Nice to see I'm not the only one that doesn't always secure my structures. As I learn (from you and others) I'm building better buildings. So, replace early attempts with newer builds. Thanks again for sharing.
a little tacky glue works well to keep them from moving about but still able to remove if you want too.
Another great video! I also use the matte board glued down to the foam and leave the buildings unattached. I can clear the layout off when needed, in about 15 minutes, and know exactly where to place the structures back when the work is done.
I like your concept of buildings first and once your happy with the placement then do the scenery. I also move structures around many times until I have what I like . Also I love lots of structures very little open spaces. I also after watching your videos, I like the harbor scenery so. I’m working on the extension now. Going to try imitate your original but smaller and narrower. Thanks for all your videos. Great help and ideas.

wondering what your total budget is for your layout .......I was heavily into this hobby 30-40 years ago and stopped when we moved .......really enjoy watching your highly detailed work
Good Morning Howcork. Working in "HO" scale is the most economical for me. "O"
Scale can be crazy expensive. "HO" is have the scale and have the price. I just retired and getting back into the hobby. Lots of great CZcams channels. Check out Thunder Mesa Railroad.

That was an awesome video Jason. Does the matte board warp at all when you install your scenery, white glue, real dirt, grasses, etc.? I don't like to glue my structure down either. It’s always nice to be able to move structures around and change up the scenes, like so many others that is the fun part. Thanks again for a fun video.

your videos seem nice but I see no buildings that would be considered "modern". 90's or newer? Corrugated steel, tilt up concrete, etc.. I have no interest in brick or wood structures.
