      Cardboard, tape, and foam is not going to last at all, though. I don't think everyone needs to go a pricey wood route--but you literally get what you pay for and this piece is fragile as heck.

    • @shola7987
      @shola7987 Před rokem +1

      that foam ain't going nowhere. That stuff is forever. It'll last just as long as ikea furniture lasts depending on how you treat it.

    Hiii!!!! I'm a new subscriber, fan and a fashion attack believer!!
    I just watched this tutorial from beggining to end and I absolutely loveeeeee your energy and smartness.
    Now, I have THE TIP of your life for when it comes to using hole-filling paste: I use the heavy duty type. I would request at the hardware store: "give me some paste to fill up cealing holes". This particular paste is way thicker and has more adhering properties than the regular filling paste (it's supposed to defy gravity and stay on the surface without falling to the floor like woud ocurr with the regular paste. It's kind of yellowish in color). And, if you live in a small appartment and don't have a lot of ventilation, neither the proper mask to protect yourself, (I mean, an anti-dust-anti-micro-particles mask), a way of protecting your lungs and your entire space and belongings from the hyper-toxic-cancer-inducing-dust that you make when sanding this paste, you can achieve a suuuuper smooth, soft and incredible finish (no sanding needed) by using a large foam sponge soaked in water, (you could use a brick-shaped foam sponge cutted out from this same material you use to make the furniture ), and you do it just the way construction workers smooth out the cement in wall works.
    While the paste is still wet, it can be smoothed out and integrated to the rest of the surface with the soaked sponge. And if it dried already, (you need to work way quicker when you do wet-work) you can re-wet it again. The surface will dry almost with a finished satin look and then you can re-apply some more wet paste using this method to smoothe it out even more at the end. You would have to wash and clean the sponge every single time you use it for the smoothing process in order to prevent creating any undesired texture. I just did the entire cealing of my house using this method, to have a silky, shiny, glossy no-cracks-visible cealing view, and I did it while I was still LEAVING inside my apartment. The dust I made while working on that project was almost non-existent and I have a huge collection of shoes and clothes I would've damaged without a doubt if sanding all that paste with a sanding machine or any other regular sanding method.
    I'm an artist and I work with a lot of industrial materials that generate dust, so since I was in art school I learned the need to protect your lungs at any cost. If you're using a piece of cloth as a mask or you use one like the one you have on, you should put a big ammount of vaseline at the entry of your nostrils so if any dust gets inside the mask, it'll attach to the vaseline stoping you from breathing it all. Still use a good mask, tho, the vaseline helps a little, but won't stop it all. The dust you create with the finishing paste, if inhaled, would harden inside your lungs and a good part of it will never come out of your body not even using breathing therapy. So, yeah, keep the incredible furniture coming in 'cuz we love it!!
    I really hope this helps you out and others in the future.
    Have a blessed and incredible dust-free 2022!!!!!
    Here is a link to the sponges I use for smoothing out the crack-filling-paste. They're ordinary sponges and run super cheap in Amazon:

    I want something similar to my old cube bookshelf and cover it in "hole filler" to give it a more modern and earthy fill. How did the filler adhere to the sides of the bookshelf? I see you linked the joint compound, but did you use a primer or special mix to ensure it held to the coated wood?
